FRIDAYTON: God abandons PS4 as The Great Flood wipes out Sony HQ [Up: Reveal in OP]

It's probably going to be nothing. This guy is just fishing for hits. Honestly, if it was something big, it would be splashed on Eurogamer's main website right now and not left up to their Spanish language affiliate to wait for Sony.

Dat is true, innit. If it was big, it'll be up on USgamer by now.

The question is whether this is a recent development because Cerny very recently went to IGN to give his latest interview and any major incident detrimental to PS4's ram situation would have made waves earlier.

So I am not really expecting bad news in terms of tech itself, rather its availability. But if it is to be on the tech side the OS footprint can be the of relevance.

I imagine a few people here will be like this tomorrow at Sony's statement:

That'd be bish with the possibility of more incoming sacrifices ..

Based on his tweets, sounds like something they are planning to reveal in a technical article about the PS4 that Sony wants to clarify, not anything that has actually changed.

I guess we'll see.

I'm going to laugh my ass off when this turns out to be a big bunch of nothing. "Random crazy ass speculation over the smallest shit-GAF" are crazy as fuck.

I can see two possibilities:

a) GDDR5 to GDDR3
b) 3GBs reseved for the OS

both are "bad news", but not necessarily catastrophic

If there was ever a great example of nonsensical. The bold would be that example.

I'm thinking about what has happened recently that could lead to mindblowing news. I'm drawing a blank to be honest. Pretty boring state of affairs right now with SCE. I think there will be disappointed people if you're expecting some huge negative thing out of this. I'd take the words of Arnold the Terminator and relax.

Prepare for disappointment if you are waiting for something big.

If the information was THAT hot it would already be out.

I'm with chubigans, it's probably this guy getting official confirmation of the 20GB/s CPU bandwidth and double memory controller setup. Watch them put out an article which says the GPU bandwidth has been downgraded to 156GB/s or something like that. It will go nicely with their Xbone 192GB/s bandwidth upgrade article.

It might be late in Europe due to ram supply issues. That would make sense from a Spanish tweeter.

That said, I did feel myself puckering.

Sony is probably "making a statement" as in before the site published an article about how something in the ps4 isn't as good as it sounds, they contacted Sony to ask them for comment, and Sony responded "yes, give us a day to get someone to answer your questions."

Whether this is new info or just someone sensationalizing stuff we already know like the 20 gbps cpu bandwidth, I guess we'll see when the article goes up.

"GAF's biggest wanker"
A guy posted a tweet, and everyone lost their mind!
There should be a rule against claiming GAF is losing it's mind until a thread hits at least 10 pages, and I'm tempted to push that to 20, because that's when things really get crazy around here.

Id love more RAM for the OS. Given GDDR5 isn't normally the preference for OSes, wouldn't it make more sense to allocate more to compensate for the speed?

DDR3 might not be ideal for gaming related stuff, but it sure is for OS related.

It will never be a downgrade to GDDR3!
GDDR3 is not only old and out of date, but the price would likely be higher due to how rare it is these days.
And that is not even taking into account the change in memory controller it would need.

DDR3 would also need a change in memory controller and the bandwidth would hurt the PS4 badly.

No, if it has one pool of RAM it will have one memory controller that then can send data other 2 buses, one to the CPU and one the GPU.

Meh, to me it's just that the console clock that seemed the same for the console and the devkit will be lowered in the consumer mass production model.

What's the story behind this?

Oh Cerny just mentioned in some of his keynotes that he was boo'd at one point and that some developers outright stated that Sony would be finished unless they include 8gb of GDDR5 ram.

Probably not about that though, considering the guy's recent tweets.

I won't make any predictions, cause i'm fucking clueless when it comes to hardware etc.

Haven't they been carting this thing around to various people the last few weeks? If it was something big, somebody would have slipped up.

guys i don't think we should overreact

but my sources are saying they're going sub-Wii-u, actually just wanted to recreate PS2 sales by rebranding the PS2 in a new case

..i'm gonna be honest with you here; if it bundles with Tekken Tag i'm keeping my preorder. if they can get DMC1, MGS2 & FF X out in the first year or so again i think they'll do well

I think it has something to do with an policy which was under NDA.
Maybe a small exclusive time period on ps4 for a devkit?

A hardware downspec is not something i think will happen.
It would make me even sad that the ceiling for next gen performance drops.
The more performance next gen console the better for pc where i do most of my gaming.

I'm not trusting any spanish gaming outlets after that Mario and Luigi are lovers mistranslation that popped up recently.

And yeah , some earth shattering bad news for PS4 is gonna break on Eurogamer Spain.

Honestly, that's what I was thinking. Digital Foundry even recently got a chance to speak with Cerny indepth earlier this month and there were no signs of any significant changes.
