I just spoke to my source within Sony and while he's not 100% on all the details, I did manage to squeeze something out of him. Newegg apparently ran out of GDDR5 RAM and Sony has desperately been looking for a new source to buy in bulk. The predominant rumour within Sony is, they might downgrade to GDDR3.5 and limit to the amount to 3.5GB and 2GB reserved for the OS.

That sounds plausible to me but take it with a grain of salt. Trust me however, the guy is solid.

Oh god lol

He's always emotional. And its always about the vita

That's true. Also now that I think about it there may have been some internal arguments over indie policies after Microsoft's announcements yesterday.

Bah, I'm just getting paranoid since the PS4 has almost seemed too good to be true lately.

the way i see it:
-they already announced 8GB GDDR5 loud and proud, updated devkits, and we have devs confirming that they are developing with 8GB.
-they put the PS4 through the FCC, which shows the clock frequency, so we know that's sticking.
-they keep opening preorders, so i don't think it's production related.

i REALLY think this is just the "different buses from CPU and GPU" thing, and this guy is trying to turn this into some kind of controversial deal. there's no way in hell it's going to get bumped back down to 4GB, and i think significantly increasing the OS footprint is unlikely too.

it's going to be something trivial. he said he read a tech article and sony is releasing a statement? wha?

It makes no sense for Sony to issue a statement about that though, let alone need 24 hours to prepare a statement. Unless this guy is trying to generate a story where there is none.

Damn, is that 50% more or 30% less. I'm not so good with this Math thing?

The only thing that makes me a bit nervous about this is that Shahid made a comment about work today being emotional. Still if no one else is talking, including the main DF site, it probably isn't big. Sony's statement could be just to clear up a misunderstanding or something,

My source told me that there was a giant tub party going on at SCEE today with Cerny being the main host. Another one of my sources told me that Kaz Hirai and Andrew House were in attendance too but I need more confirmation first.

Yeah I can't blame Shahid, I would be pretty emotional too if I were in a bathtub with Mark Cerny.

There is no way Sony decreases the RAM. I think what we may find out is the actual performance of that RAM vs the theoretical and the CPU bandwidth limitation.

Fortunately, I have a very secretive insider source.
Once he found out, he came directly to me, but I have to keep it secret.
Ultimately, Sony's issue is there are two scenarios to weigh.
RAM may or may not have to be sacrificed to make a November release.

Giggles are certainly being had at Microsoft over these rumors.
Insiders of both companies know how easily secrets can leak out.
Generous helpings of RAM would certainly be optimal for both systems.
Sony will be able to come out and fully explain what they're doing tomorrow.

So PS4 is doomed based on what is pretty much just speculation? Come on gaf, didn't your parents teach you what we're supposed to do with rumors?

Go to tell somebody else

The Sony statement is what truly freaks me out here. It either is really good news or really bad news.
My body can't handle this dramarama.

Sony would like to announce PS4 will come with 8 live rams!

The Eurogamer guy already said they aren't making an official statement. They just have a comment, probably for the article.

People are blowing any possible downgrade way out of proportion, the difference won't be that big and might save Sony some money in the long run.

Maybe it's just confirmation that everything is the way it it?

They're at the final stage, everything is in production, so stop sending tweets/emails with your concerns.

Well I got an e-mail from Amazon today telling me that I am no longer guaranteed a console at launch. Wonder if its just a coincidence.

This is gonna be bad

"un artículo técnico bastante interesante"

a tech article that's very interesting.

It doesn't sound like something negative but more like they discovered something juicy. the use of the word "drama" in spanish doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, just that things are very interesting.
