Sony, you had one job.
To out-RAM Microsoft.
Sony wants to copy them then they will try to out RAM them .

And of that 1.5GB, 1GB is supposed to be used just for video recording, thus leaving just 512MB for the actual OS.

Reading the comments on these OS mem articles (first mistake) ... There are not enough palms to face.

@cowbs Interesting...but your comment implies that the comments are silly, and not the article itself.
John Bellomy ‏@cowbs
@timtheterrible1 mostly reacting to people extrapolating the implications to ridiculous degrees.
he's not denying it.
So glad you included me. I would have felt left out.
Now enlighten us why you find the comments 'breathtaking'.
Except for Joe Blow. He made it sound like 5 GB aren't enough for AAA games
forgive me.
Is this all nonsense rumour and speculation again, or hard, cold fact that goes against what the insiders have been saying?
Seems like an awful amount of energy wasted if it's the former.
Amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. This is some Beyond3D levels of ignorance here. Sony has went out of their way to please developers who were celebrating a faux-Christmas on February 20th. However, it isn't enough. Sony has to now please the armchair programmers on GAF because they know whats better for games than the creators themselves.
Let this list be a reminder.
Why are people crying?
176GB/s at 60FPS = 2.93GB
176GB/s at 30FPS = 5.86GB

RAM has changed.
It's not about performance, or better textures.
It's not even about a better LOD, processing data, or more speed.
It's an endless series of discussions about the split between the 8GB GDDR5 RAM,
fought by fanboys and forum members.
RAM, and its vast consumption of a console's life,
has become a rational, well-oiled business transaction.
RAM has changed.
3,5GB of RAM available for the OS inside their consoles enhance and regulate their actions.
Facebook control.. Sharing control..
Party chat control.. Background music control.
Everything is monitored, and kept under control.
RAM has changed.
The age of gaming is now the age of OS,
averting catastrophe from a slow unresponsible OS.
And he who controls the OS, controls history.
RAM has changed.
When the OS is under total control,
RAM becomes routine.
What the hell this OS will do with all this memory and bandwidth? 3.5 GBs with 20 GBs/ sec bandwidth? Will it record 4K raw quality while computing folding home tasks or what.
Disappointing for me. Not that games will
be ugly or anything, I just thought Sony had done everything perfectly this time. 7 GBs of gddr5 for games. Guess it was too good to be true. Such a waste.

I hope someone with sufficient knowledge will explain this, because to me this seems only a big failing waste of valuable resources.

Brilliant, just brilliant
This is disappointing if true. Truth be told, I don't really care about recording the last 15 mins of my gameplay and nor do I care about streaming my gameplay on ustream (and I doubt the majority of PS4 owners do as well) and I'm guessing those two things take up a lot of memory.

.....
Luckily the majority of the people know that 4.5GB of RAM will be enough for the next generation, even if the future PC titles will need 5-6GB eventually.....
I'll say it. He was full of shit. Dumping all your assets to memory doesn't justify its use.Except for Joe Blow. He made it sound like 5 GB aren't enough for AAA games
I don't know and I don't understand it either. Sure you are going to need plenty of flexible ram for the OS, but 3.5gb seems overkill to me.
cinematic framerates, sub hd resolutions, heavy screentearing, poor texture filtering, pop in out the ass, zero multitasking ability (and I mean ZERO ,can't even dl a game in the background or listen to some music...) , no real AA...
Not much was achieved with 512MB
Was there any official statement from Sony yet?

Wait, where were you in all those disgusting Xbox One threads these last couple of months that were way worse than this thread? We need more people like you to come into all perceived negative tech threads not just Sony ones and let people know how ignorant they are.Amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. In the history of consoles these two are pretty much siblings. Never before have two consoles been so similar.

Does this mean we're all gonna die?
Oh jeez, did some of you even go to sleep in last 24 hours?

shit tell me more about ps4's os please
I guess thats why the $100 advantage was so important. The hardware advantage isnt gonna be as much as we thought.
But are the games any fun? That is the question.
