Sony: Gamescom to be focused on the PS4's lineup

I think it is fair to say that Sony does not have strong plans for the Vita because honestly, why should they considering how the 3DS has taken most of the portable gaming market they could ever hope to have

The problem with prematurely announcing titles before they are ready to be shown is a mistake no one wants to make. Drive Club is suffering immensely because of this.

This is a big issue on the Vita specifically (and 3DS as well) because framerates don't improve until the end of dev... and on handhelds never get particularly high anyway. In almost every early vita game they show the threads are filled with "the framerate looks like shit."

I'm going to bold, underline and italicise my posts so they stand out even more than yours...

Really curious to know what Sony London is working on besides XBM & Eye/Move stuff. Their studio is massive isn't it?

We know they're working on Book of Potions right? Probably some other Wonderbook shite.

Home 2 has got to be a cert, or something similar. I've been trawling LinkedIn, but it's fairly schtum, no slip ups :D

Agreed. SCE WWS had a bad E3 when it came to show floor demos. DriveClub, Knack and Killzone:SF all had negative or mediocre feedback. That tends to happen when you do a live demo build too early in the dev process. I'm hoping that the Gamescom demo builds are much more polished. If there is going to be any doubt, it would be better for Sony to delay new demo builds to TGS.

I think Sony will emphasize both the PS4 and Vita. It's just that Sony will emphasize the PS4 more. Demonstrating remote play during their conference would be a good idea since that will bring both platforms to attention simultaneously.

Sigh...

Come on, Sony. I've got a PS4 on pre-order, and I'm really glad to see more stuff, but I have a Vita too.

Real mature.

The guy was right, Sony has no hope of taking Nintendo's portable thunder.

I think Sony will be happy with the Vita situation if they can just turn it around enough to make a decent profit off it. Which is something that they can still do since its a system that was built to not really break their bank in terms of tech.

There is no reason to bold your entire post unless you think your opinion needs to be seen as more important. It sets a shitty precedent, are you okay with everyone posting in all caps and anyone pointing it out is being immature? It has nothing to do with the content.

EDIT: actually every single post is bolded

I see as usual non-vita users saying good forget about vita and focus on PS4...I on the other hand see it differently. A company that launches a product and gives up on it will lose a lot of credibility they have going forward. This is same for Nintendo and MS as well. I hope they are not dumb enough to give up on the system. If they didn't have a long term plan they are absolute failures as hardware makers and I won't trust them even slightly anymore. .

At least I see famourmortimer saying GC should have a good vita showing. Hope he is right. I'm tired of the bullshit by yoshida, shahid and every other PR guy they have

ps: PS3 is a good example and that system harmed the company financials more than any other console they ever had. But by showing commitment and effort they were able to turn the ship around somewhat and maintain a solid fanbase. They could have easily scrapped the system, saved a chunk of money

With the attach rate it's got, I don't think it's doing badly for them, by any means.

They sure as shit aren't losing money on the hardware (rah rah thieving bastard rah rah).

Are you quoting me for a bold post? I didn't post nothing in bold, buddy.

Except I did call that post "real mature".

Sony may not have a hope of stealing Nintendo's thunder on handhelds but I hope they go after them on consoles. The PS2 was far better at going after the "Nintendo" gamer than the PS3/Xbox 360. I don't think it is wise to let Nintendo divide the market in such a way.

Well an presentation of their lead writer earlier this month at Develop was interesting and gave me some hope that they are working on a core title.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSB-zeNHOGQ

There were a bunch of job listings in 2011 talking about them working on a AAA Move title for the PS3. But again, that was 2011 and it may have been canned or moved to the PS4.

They're Sony's biggest studio in terms of head count, so they've got to be doing something more than what we know of at the moment.

No, how in the world did you interpret me saying you had a bolded post? Clearly I was responding to you calling him immature for pointing out the other poster bolding every single one of his posts.

Lol all of his posts are bolded. He must not know better.

"there is no reason for you to post in old".

I assumed you was talking about me. Excuse me for not scanning every page to get the jist of what you're on about.

We're straying off-topic now, so just leave it.

Haha what are you even talking about?

So did the DS, but it didn't stop Sony at least trying to support the PSP. The PSP is the best selling non-Nintendo handheld ever. which isn't saying much, but it just seems a shame they've given up so easily with the follow up.

Scanning every page? It's on this page and it's the post you directly responded to.

Just because it's focused on PS4 lineup doesn't mean Vita won't get a decent showing either.

Oh who am I kidding

I had no idea bold post was not permitted. its a habit of mine, now corrected.

Words, statements, sentences for emphasis; just not the whole post. It's cool. We were all juniors here at one time. It's the ones who act like dicks for no good reason you have to worry about...

You said he bolds every post. So how am I to know whether you mean this thread or generally? So I was stating I wasn't scanning every page to find out just incase.

As I said, drop it. You're free to PM if you wish to continue.

This is a big issue on the Vita specifically (and 3DS as well) because framerates don't improve until the end of dev... and on handhelds never get particularly high anyway. In almost every early vita game they show the threads are filled with "the framerate looks like shit."

Damned if you / Damned if you don't.

Gamer's have very little background about developing on a new platform. Yoshida and Mattrick have both stated: "We have X titles in development."

I see repeated posts where people claim "Battlefield looks better," or "The Division looks better than anything else on display." Those people have yet to understand that third party titles are going to be shown off running on a high end PC with every effect maxed out. First party titles are held to a different set of limitations and are faced with the honesty of the devkit.

(Protip ya'll: Devits are constantly updated, tweaked, and modified. Until Final kits are shipped to developer's, it is akin to shooting a moving target.)
Launch games will always suffer the most, no matter how long they have been in development. Knack, Drive Club, and Shadow Fall are not indicative of how capable PS4 truly is.

(Which reminds me second generation Vita titles will blow minds.)

Finally, there seems to have been a sudden case of amnesia floating around. Sony's first party historically delivers on the exclusives front in both quantity and quality. Just look at previous yearly Sony offerings, and one doesn't have to venture too far to understand that games are coming. Let launch year die off, and give the developer's time to hone their craft.

E3 2014 is when the ball will get rolling, please be excited :).

TL;DR: Sony's first party is alive and kicking harder than you know. The games are coming, just not ready for prime time.

Mario Kart 7: 60 fps. Granted not 1080p. But if a portable can achieve 60fps, your argument doesn't hold.

I simply informed you the other person bolded every single post, did I say I expected you to know this? I asked about you calling zomg immature for pointing out his single bolded post which is on this page.

Anyways, it seems to be simply him misunderstanding, all fine.

qko, I've worked at Nintendo as a tester. I can't say anything explicit about the experience, but IMO Nintendo is one of those companies that will not utter a word about a game until it's ready for prime time.

Also 60 FPS is a design choice. Nintendo prioritized the 60 fps experience over visual fidelity

Yes, big mistake on my behalf.

Thank you so much for this post. It seems people here THINK they know how game development works. It's clear that Drive Club was pretty much showcased before it was ready. I have no doubt it will look and play great at launch.

For me I have no issue with the launch offerings for the PS4. We're getting AAA titles from first and third party. Along with a host of downloadable offerings, with Infamous SS coming in Q1.

I hope at GC we get some new PS4 reveals, but I know the big guns won't be showcased until the VGA's and E3 2014.

That's great for Sony but how does that help me as a Vita owner? All I want is as much support from them as they gave the PSP in terms of games and they're not even doing half of that. Tens and tens of crappy indie games don't count as I want more games like Gravity Rush, Uncharted and so on.

I'd rather buy a Vita than a 3DS any day and I would love for Sony to give me more reason to own one. The hardware behind the 3DS is such garbage that you can't ever convince me to own it no matter how many games it has.

Come on now, the hardware is not "garbage". It's decent, but not as nice as the Vita. You talk as if the 3DS can't do shit. RE:R wants a word with you.

It's not garbage, it's not amazing.

Your welcome. Gopher knows more than most of us, but I just want to reiterate one point-

Sony's job at Gamescom is to convince you on the launch line up. They are going to showcase close to final builds of Knack, Drive Club, and Shadow Fall. This is the last stop before the short drive towards launch. I would think of Gamescom as the exclamation point on the paragraph that is E3. There's will be punch, there will be dancing, there will be fireworks.

PS4 is ALMOST HERE :).

Sony Bend's next game
Gravity Rush 2
Killzone Mercenary (IMO is technically a second generation Vita Title)
Tearaway

Those all second generation titles in my opinion.

Yes, big mistake on my behalf.

I never implied that at all, I only ever implied that you should know about the post quoted in a post you responded to originally. Clearly I'm asking for too much.

I don't think it has much to do with the 3DS as it is with Sony making so much more money on their consoles. PS is known for their consoles which is the reverse for Nintendo where their handhelds have been more popular. Also, Sony isn't a Japan-focused game company.

It's not garbage, it's not amazing.

When I tried it out in the store, it was the definition of garbage. Dreadful resolution, pixelated graphics and the 3D flickered every single time I would move my device so much that it hurt my eyes looking at it. I had to keep it perfectly straight without the slightest tremor for it to be playable. The graphics on the machine are also very unimpressive and I would prefer not to own mediocre hardware. To me, the 3DS vs Vita is tremendously in the Vitas favor hardware wise and it would be a no-brainer decision which to purchase if Vita gets some better games. Hoping that happens this gamescom. I saw a poll from developers in Europe and many were highly interested in developing for Vita. It was one of the most popular systems for developers.

And yes, from someone like me, you're asking a bit much.
