I have a small pet peeve here :

Generally .most of the time steam puts games in the right order .but it got it wrong on these three.

broken sword Shadow of the Templar should be first before the smoking mirror.

Now i realize this is a small issue but i like my games to be the right order .

Anyway to fix this ?

Sadly, no. The client sorts games automatically in alphabetical order (with "the" ignored, so for instance, "The Secret World" is slotted under "Secret of the Magical Crystal").

Still trying to catch up to all these games I bought this past sale. Got busy and couldn't finish FTL, but that will change very soon.

I don't know how the hell you guys can stand having your games list look like that.

Not worth the trouble then .

its just a minor issue .

He's joking. As I said above, the client sorts games automatically in alphabetical order. Broken Sword is ordered as such because the other titles are named "Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror" and "Broken Sword III: The Sleeping Dragon".

Frozen Synapse -- MB-EA171D3746C77A27 - Taken by Fuu
Running the bot for the first time, might as well work it.

It's up to how the company decides to name the games in the database. If they're dumb and do it wrong, nothing you can do (yet).

This is aggravating:

Why is the hyphen different?????

I heard it's kind of like a more hardcore x-com, is that a correct description?

Hmm, I can see someone describing it that way. It's hard to explain. One key difference from most other top-down strat games is there's no "back-and-forth" turns. You plan your moves and actions at the same time as the opponent, and then they are executed 'simultaneously'

That simultaneous nature, coupled with the aesthetic, makes it feel as much like a puzzle game as a strategy game.

Looks like Frozen Synapse, Prime World: Defenders, and Star Conflict all got cards today.

I wanted to buy a friend Frozen Synapse but he refused the offer. He loves XCOM but apparently thinks this looks lame. His loss I guess...

Frozen Synapse looks way deeper than XCOM and I think the visual style is definitely more interesting.

His loss indeed.

*nods in agreement* Detail view or bust. Grid just looks like a giant patchwork of mismatched color.

The grid view just reminds me of a digital store page, I'd rather have some sort of shelf metaphor or something where the icons looked like game cases.

I love XCOM and Frozen Synapse, but really, comparing them couldn't be more wrong. They're nothing like each other in terms of mechanics.

That brings to mind AssCreed 3 (titled Assassin`s Creed® III rather than Assassin's Creed III -- the registered trademark symbol bothers me far less than the bloody grave accent).

Dunder is crazy. So many boxes on google doc waiting for Castlevania. This is Summer Sale crazyness here - or a midnight sale.

Your friend is dumb. :(

Btw, one of the coolest things about FS is the "export to Youtube" feature. Here is a match of mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AagEcwsgH8

You can search the Youtubes for more matches. It's pretty cool (and somewhat mindblowing) that matches you spent like an hour planning can boil down to 40 seconds replays.

Frozen Synapse has probably my favorite soundtrack of all time for an indie game. Works so well for when I'm coding as well. Some similarities to Mirror's Edge here and there.

It's nothing like XCOM though. It's probably more similar to the tactical planning phase of games like Rainbow Six.

Frozen Synapse is excellent and infinitely replayable, especially if you get some friends playing so you can trash talk.

Any discussion on Narco Terror?

I'm excited guys/girls.

Tomorrow marks the day where I take a month to blast through all the Ys games on steam for the first time.

I'm on my phone so I'm not going to write a long recommendation post but ffs everybody better buy frozen synapse or else

Can I commit a brief moment of heresy here? I'm a fan of squad tactics games and Frozen Synapse really didn't do it for me. The basics of turn based real time was really cool to me when I first started playing. But in execution I was continually frustrated by the lack of ability to match up what I was planning in the planning stages with what actually played out in the turns. I'm not talking random tactical factors (someone shows up where you did not expect, random rocket splash damage, ect..) those are a fun part of the game. But instead issues more like soldier not firing when they appear to have clear lines of sight, inability to tell when soldiers clear a corner when moving around it, stuff like that. Even with the preview turn button I kept running into these types of issues that hurt my enjoyment of the game. I enjoyed a few hours of it, but I dropped it after that and didn't feel a big need to go back to it.

listen to the mad man
Dammit, I PM'd Modbot twice (thought it was a new raffle). Will that disqualify me or something?

If you try to claim two giveaways in one PM, it ignores both because you're greedy and heartless.

If you try to enter the same giveaway a second time, your first entry still counts but don't go thinking you beat the system, skipper!

Does anyone in this thread like getting Steam Achievements?

For some reason I hate Playstation Trophies (used to love them), but now I'm finding Steam achievements fun to go for. Maybe it's because I can feel good even when I don't 100% a game, whereas on the PS3, if I didn't get the platinum trophy, I didn't feel like I was done. Weird.

I like both achievements and trophies just same and I usually go for 100% completion on games I like as long as humanly possible (see: Super Meat Boy no death runs) and don't have ridiculous multiplayer achievements.
In my case, trying to complete each game has nothing to do with gamerscores or lvls, I just like to know I did or discovered everything I can in the game, like I did with older games (ex. DKC on SNES, Zelda games, etc)

On another subject, I finished my first game after the sale, DUST: An Elysian Tail. Really liked it, specially the exploration part. The combat works pretty well though quite simple.
I didn't find the story as bad or annoying as some said. But I think the dub mixing could've been improved a little, but that is me nitpciking.
Also had some issues in the last part of the game where there are too many characters on screen, making it hard to see where your character is.
Anyone tried hardcore diffculty? I beat the game on tough and felt it was quite easy once you reach lvl20 or so.

Onto the next game now, Toki Tori 2+ or La-Mulana, still not sure which.

Achievements being visible are designed for bragging

There's a widely available tool where you just click a button and get every steam achievement for a steam game

Given that they are broken, I just go for the fun/hard ones. Unless im like 2 achievements away from 100% or something, I guess.

cross posting it from the tech thread in hopes someone can help me out:

Before I RMA this thing - is my graphics card dead?

Have an Nvidia 660ti and about a month ago it would randomly start failing during games. Black screen, sound continues, then it fires back up but at a very low framerate. Tried updating/ rolling back drivers - no go. yesterday it just goes into a constant crash reboot cycle.

Now, this all started when I updated drivers. I said to heck with it, I have to reformat anyway, I'll do a fresh install.

I do a fresh install of windows wiping out the old partition. Install my mobo drivers for usb and lan. Start doing windows updates. Windows updates finish and the computer reboots but now i'm stuck in a reboot loop. I can boot into safe mode, but not normal windows, it just reboots after the windows logo.

I take the graphics card out and plug my video into the mobo and it boots into windows normally.

Is my card dead or is it something else?
