STEAM Announcements & Updates 2013 IV - Christmas in July is over, back to real life

Well Teleglitch has the rogue-like aspects down pretty well, on my third play-through, managed to finally make it past the second area and it's been a right bastard with the item drops. Virtually no weapons beyond what ones I've managed to craft out of scavenged materials. Going by Total Biscuit's WTF is... hitting the third area should at least give me a sort of check-point to continue from when I die, although I wonder if it will be worth doing so without any decent gear.

Started to figure out the crafting system a little more, learned how to make armor and a few decent weapons.

At least we're getting that XBox One controller support for PC in 2014, right?
Coincident with the Steam release of the original Halo trilogy. ;)

I'll be the first in (virtual) line to buy it when it happens. IF it happens.

I'd be perfectly fine with a GTAIVesque eight-month-late port provided it guaranteed adequate optimisation -- less GTAIV and more Max Payne 3

Whatever the case, a delayed release like that ensures I'll only be getting it for PC when it's €5 during a Steam sale. I can get the 360 version for cheap by trading in some games, and by the time the PC version rolls around I'll be tired of the game anyway.

This reeks of damage control.

Pretty much.

I prefer to think positively, that Nvidia accidentally violated some NDA and we are getting the game as originally stated, within 2013.

You think its going to come out in 2 months without being revealed?

Think POSITIVE! Though I know it not to be true. Better for me anyway. I'm definitely not going to be Day 1 buyer. Never finished a GTA, except for Vice City. PC gaming scene is already chock full of up coming releases anyway. Who can find the time.

The fact PC has to bitch and moan for a simultaneous pc release on a system that will very clearly be able to handle the requirements of the game more than any other platform is frustrating.

Its to be expected AAAs dont sell well compared to consoles. Why waste your time porting when you can make a half ass dlc

Because console AAA games have a low bar standard, and PC games tend to have a higher bar we call "you have to be this tall to ride".

Also Dark Souls (that'll never sell right?)

*was on top ten steam sales for weeks*

almost 5k people are playing it right now at 530am EST.

Most devs release same time as PC. Most ports are decent enough, they don't complain about PC sales either, we never get given numbers so that doesn't help. Only the select few like to moan about PC and even they are coming round, eg ubisoft.

I would have bought it but boardgames on PC without online multiplayer is pointless.
I nearly bought it before I realised it didn't have it.

Completely useless without online multiplayer in my opinion.

It has local hotseat multiplayer, but what's to stop people seeing all your cards? Plus it would be like musical chairs with more than 2 people trying to take their go.

It seems like it's taking a long time for Satazius to be unlocked for the Groupees Doujin bundle. I'm actually starting to hope that the last bonus isn't anything great because I'm doubting it will be unlocked before it ends.

Just reposting this awesome Survival horror game by the former devs behind FEAR and No One Lives Forever.

Should be releasing on Steam early access sometime today.
What to do? I don't really want to buy a game that's not finished yet, but on the other hand... F.E.A.R. and NOLF devs? I'd buy any used car from them, so yeah. I'll get this.

Is there like a good video for how cards work? All I can seem to figure out is you get badges from getting all the cards in a set? But you have a cap of how many drops a certain game has, and the only way to get more cards for that set is like a .0000001% booster chance or to just buy them from the market?

Trade/sell the cards from games you don't care about.

You can trade cards from one game for other cards to complete a set for another game.

There's a FAQ below for more questions and stuff.

Valve Anti Cheat (VAC) coming to GRID 2
Community Announcements - Loore

Just a brief update to let you know that we're currently in the progress of getting Valve Anti Cheat (VAC) enabled on the PC version of GRID 2.

We're currently making the required changes to the game and working with Valve to get everything in place. Once our testing is complete we'll be patching the PC version of the game soon and once complete will be looking at enabling VAC shortly after.

We're hoping this will be another step towards making your online experience a better one :)

- You get a limited amount of drops, equal to half the amount of cards if even or half+1 if uneven; for instance, games with six cards offer you three drops while those with seven give you four drops
- To complete a set, you need to either trade your unwanted cards with other users or purchase your desired cards from the Market. Booster packs, which drop randomly and require you to have used up all your drops for a given game, also play into this, however the chance of you obtaining one in a given period is dependent upon you having been online once within the past fortnight and your Steam Community profile level; the higher your level, the greater the likelihood of a booster drop
- With a complete set, you can craft a badge. Game badges can be crafted up to five times, with the exception of foil badges (crafted using foil variants of the regular cards), which can be crafted just the once. Crafting a badge nets you 100 XP, a discount coupon, a profile background and an emoticon (both pertaining to the game in question). XP is, as alluded to earlier, used to increase your Steam Community profile level: levelling up nets you five additional friend list slots, and once you reach level 10 you're able to set a profile background and a showcase that allows you to feature something in particular (e.g. your game/DLC count or unlocked achievements) -- each tenth level thereafter allows you to set an additional showcase

Better get your cards now, I guess. SAM won't work for this then.

SAM idling still works just fine in VAC protected games as long as you're not in a multiplayer match.

Wait tell me more of this SAM idling, I thought it was only for unlocking achievements? Can you get cards from games without having them installed using it (assuming you have the game on your account of course)?

When you load up an achievement window, your Steam status changes to in-game, so SAM doubles as the perfect way to idle for cards. You can also idle in games without achievements by manually inputting their app ids.

small tutorial please? how can I do this?
SAM will generate a list of the Steamworks games you own, so it's just a matter of double-clicking a game to load up the achievement window, at which point your Steam status will change to in-game and you just wait for the cards to drop. To idle in non-Steam[works] games you need to manually input the app id, so I recommend loading up your badge page as you can hover over the game name and see the id as part of the URL (http://steamcommunity.com/id/YourProfileURL/gamecards/appidhere/).
