UI looks great, but I can already see a major issue imo, bar stats for weapon/gear instead of numeric. That method always ends up being horrible.

Oh god, seamless KB&M/XPad usage switching! Nextgen feature! ;)

Yeah. Buggy time! Awesome. AWESOME.

(why am I so excited about this?)

You and me both. You and me both.

Those animations make me seriously crack up.

Buggies again. Steering with one hand only. What a surprise that he gets stuck. That's against regulations. :-/

1500 posters. Fuck me. I want one.

Look at that guy smile. Bet this feels really good for Chris and the team.

Wait, 250 posters per kind? That'll end in a bloodbath. You don't tell 1200+ seriously overhyped people to make that difficult choice unless you have a finger on the emergency sleeping gas release mechanism.

I wonder If I should trade in my 325a for a a civilian Hornet.... hmm...

325A is more sexy. Also bigger.

I'm happy with my freelancer & 325A for everyday things & dogfights.

I purposely dropped the Aurora because I figured it'll be the easiest ship to get with ingame-currency.

Buggy flipping reminds me of the fun the Halo guys had with the initial Halo release. Just throw a bunch of grenades under a Warthog and watch it fly into the stratosphere while spinning wildly. Will try to recreate without 'nades, and with Buggy.

I kid. What I really want is a mini Buggy racer game mode a la Mario Kart. Is it too late to give Roberts my money so he'll release that after the dogfighting module?

SC will probably be fully funded with the release of the dogfighting module, with all the funds after that feeding into prolonging the game. On that aspect alone I think we're all going to love that they'll just be able to focus on delivering the best experience possible instead of making sure they're able to get their revenue post launch, no terrible forced DLC or weapons or corny cosmetics :)

Can't wait to see my Connie in my hangar come Thursday. Waiting for my Avenger and M50 should tide me over till the dogfighting alpha :p

One question: the camera looked kinda wonky when getting into the cockpit, or even walking around inside the freelancer.

I couldn't understand much of what Roberts was saying, but did he mention anything about the first-person camera not being ready for sitting down in your chair or something?

I want the whole experience firsthand when I finally get to sit in my Constellation captain's chair :(

Yeah, the animations aren't done yet. He mentioned it during some of the GC interviews. You're not getting the whole experience on the 29th, it's just how it is. Deal with it. :p

Thinking of pledging $140 but I don't know if I should for Colonel or Freelancer.

I say get a 'lancer, because that's what I have too and I couldn't possibly be wrong.

Seriously though: The Hornet is more for dogfighting. It has barely any cargo hold. The Freelancer is several times a Hornet's size, but if you don't like to trade or explore (which are its strengths), then you can just hire an NPC and have it work some lucrative trade lanes.

Then again, if you wanna fight then the Hornet is probably one of the better ships.

If you are not sure then you could also go for a Pirate Pack (not available to nonbackers), which comes with a pretty zippy and customizable ship (the Cutlass) that also has a decent cargo hold and comes with a tractor beam and docking collar for boarding other bigger ships. Only drawback is that it's probably a bit weak in the armor department and that NPC authorities are more prone to sift through your cargo, so smuggling is a bit of a bad idea.

You know what? decide for yourself. This page helps.

Just to clarify one point... the pirate pack is only available to original backers and won't be visible to anyone else.

He's probably best off finding an original backer to help out anyway. The packs that will cost him $140 will cost an original backer $125 I think.

I probably should have added that, yeah. Sorry. Had forgotten that they took the pirate pack off the store for lesser mortals. ;)

Still, I think it's totally worth the risk of doing the gift-melt-and-regift dance. Such a sexy ship, the Cutlass.

Obviously the 'lancer still reigns supreme, but the appeal of the Cutlass is undeniable.

I've got another question. What's the hangar everyone is talking about? Will I have access to that as well?

Official info

It's a very very early peek at the Hangar part of the game where you can run around (or drive a Buggy around), look at your ship from the outside and inside, and interact with some objects like the entry mechanism of the ships to gain access. Again, very very early alpha, more of a proof of concept, but it's the very first part of the game backers will be able to "play".

Basically, it's spaceship porn. You get to ogle and fondle your ship. Also Buggies.

Watch this to see it in action. It's yesterdays' live stream recording from the exclusive unveiling party at Gamescom. Turn the volume down, lots of cheering. I think the meat of the show starts around 15 minutes in or so.

I think I'm ready to jump in, but I'm not sure which package to get. You'll eventually be able to earn the ships in the bigger packages in-game, right?

Just grab the aurora package and work your way into whatever ships/rolls you want imo. Nothing is cash exclusive beyond cosmetics

I've had the $65 digital bounty hunter thing for a while now but I'm curious to what degree a 300i will be customizable. It'd be cool if I could spend a bit of in-game money and turn it into a 325A, since they seem to have the same hardpoints.

That holographic interface when customizing ships! I want an Oculus so much now.

I wonder if they will have have animations where the character interacts with the screen, like pointing at objects you click on.

That's it, after months and months of lurking the thread you hyped me. I swore I wasn't going to pledge to any crowdfunding project until I played those I have already backed but you pushed me in. Cunts.

The smallest pledge to begin with. I've seen what's happened to lots of you guys and I don't want to start backing 65$ to end up with a 250$ pledge.

With the sole exception of the 350R all 300 series ships can be converted into each other, as far as I know. They share the same hull setup. The 350R has the odd twin engine setup, meaning the hull is fundamentally different from its brethren, making conversion impossible. It must be bought in-game or out-of-game (backers only).

There was a time when you could purchase 300i->3xxy conversion kits on the RSI web page, but they have gone away again since you can now melt and rebuy packs as you please.

So, to back this game, what's the best way to do it for the smallest amount? Simply buying the 24€ Scout pack or is there somewhere else I should look at?

Buy the €32 pack, with Alpha and Beta acces. Otherwise you have to wait more than a year to be able to play anything.

Alternatively, ask an original backer to buy the game packets cheaper for you and you paypal them the money. Will only be a 5-15 dollar difference depending on the package, though.

I'm thinking of buying the $40 - or whatever it is in £ - Digital Merc tier, but I have some questions.

The 1,000 UEC is an in-game currency purchased with real money?
If so, can I get ships without paying real money?

Sorry if those are silly questions, I liked what I saw in the beginning, but I haven't been following the game's progress for a while.

Chris Roberts said that there is only going to be one currency in the game. You will be able to purchase everything with it. To finance servers/patches etc. you will be able to buy a certain amount of ingame cash every month with real money.
But well, that's obviously still subject to change.

By the way, the bonus credits you get in the hangar module aren't for testing.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/658588/#Comment_658588

The 5,000 credits are yours to keep, a little reward for current backers only. When we launch the hangar you will have access to buy some in-game items to play around with. You'll do this through the current website, only you'll use credits instead of dollars.

In addition to the 5,000 credits we're giving you you will also have access to any reward credits you received early in the campaign... I believe some users may end up with as many as 8,000 or 10,000 credits total. You will not have access to break the credits that come with packages out yet, because you need credits with your ship to start the game itself.

Be careful, friends!

Ah, I see. Okie dokie I'll think I'll go with that tier then.
