Sir!
I think I may need help. The more I think about this thing the more I want it. It's so dumb it's awesome. I really want to know what it feels like in-hand.
Wii
Wii U
DS
DS Lite
DSi
DSi XL
3DS
3DS XL
2DS
Marketing genius at work.
And perhaps more importantly, it doesn't look very comfortable to hold.
Jeremy Parish said:In testing the hardware, I found the 2D to be considerably lighter than the 3DS. It also feels more durable; it consists of a thicker, more rugged plastic than the slick, thin shell of the 3DS, and the lack of a hinge helps make it feel more solid as well. The control layout feels considerably more comfortable than that of the 3DS, with interface elements high on the face (similar to the GamePad). This benefits the D-pad in particular. Perceptually, I found the screens seemed larger than those of the standard 3DS model despite their being the same size.
Like what? The 3DS sales are bound to stagnate anyway
The 3DS is nowhere near as successful as the DS. In Japan, the 3DS is performing much better. Hence, the 2DS is only being released in Nintendo's international markets.
Also, going by your notion, wasn't the 3DS a stupid name? Yet you still say it was "successful". If this is just a repeat with a stupid name but with a low price entry point, isn't that a good thing?
No game needs 3D and no game ever did need 3D. It was always just a graphical... flourish.
There are plenty of games that have been ported to and from 3DS, and they've lost nothing in the transition to 3D or back to 2D. From Street Fighter IV to Mutant Mudds.
This really doesn't change anything. This is just a new model of the 3DS that has the slider turned down, meant to hit a budget price.
I get the idea behind it. I really do. A smart move really for Pokemon and the Holidays.
... but that is the most godawful looking system I've ever seen.
Did the already successful 3DS really need an overhaul to just confuse the market for the attempt for extra sales at a lower pricepoint? As most people said, this renders the OG 3DS useless. And what the fuck at the console name, couldn't they just call it the 3DS Lite?

Mario 3D Land was way better with the 3D slider turned on. I usually leave it turned off but in that case it really added to the experience in a meaningful way.
Landing jumps between floating platforms was much easier when you actually had a sense of depth.

I imagine "3DS Lite" is reserved for the 3DS's immediate successor. This 2DS seems tuned to the tablet/phone market and young children and is a clear offshoot.
The thing looks awful, but looks don't matter when you're going to become a dedicated Pokemon machine that fits nicely in your hands.
A friend gave me the idea. Could not resist:
Coloured coded add-ons.
Whatever then, they could have called it 3DS followed by any inane suffix and it still would have been better than the 2DS. I'm still cringing at the name.

Nintendo can't win. 3DS something would imply it still has 3d while it clearly doesn't.

"Sorry sir, there's no 2DS games, you can buy and play DS games or 3DS games"Here's my only concern:
"Where can I buy 2DS games?"
If they only made it with the same 3DS design I would buy it. I don't need 3D.
Also lol at the pics.
We'll have to see if Nintendo can get the point across with Pokemon."Sorry sir, there's no 2DS games, you can buy and play DS games or 3DS games"
*problem solved 5ever*
I think that's the point.Yeah, I'd bite at that too. This seems like a low budget model for Nintendo.
I get that you guys don't like the 2DS' looks, but ugliest ever?
Why is it not one single big screen.
You know what I just realized. A bunch of parents going into Walmart asking "Do you sell 2ds games? All I see is 3ds games"
lol, its the DS/3DS scenario all over again.
And it takes what, 5 seconds to correct/help them?
Non issue.
