Sounds a little more serious than Oregon, Gondo. I know you're a homer and all, but I'd be nervous as hell.

Pickens about to make a donation to the ncaa committee for investigations or buy them a nice meal and politely point them back towards Miami

So...the Canes ball washers have been out en masse since Saturday. I've gotten well-deserved grief on FB for the loss. I'm wondering what the reaction is like around Gainesville. Saturday's loss has really stuck in my craw. This loss feels like the 2003 loss to Brock Berlin's Canes. That was Zook, and I believe it was the beginning of the end for his tenure. I feel the same way about this loss and Muschamp. This is the beginning of the end of the Muschamp Era. PEACE.

Shit!

My bad.

It's honestly not that bad. Virtually all the players quoted or implicated in the payment scheme:

Calvin Mickens - kicked off the team
Brad Girtman - kicked off the team
Seymour Shaw - kicked off the team
Ricky Coxeff - kicked off the team
William Bell - kicked off the team
Aso Pogi - lost his starting job to Josh Fields
Fath Carter - ??
Rodrick Johnson - ??
Artrell Woods - left the team after an injury

Conveniently, two of the boosters implicated are dead, as are a couple of the players who supposedly received payment: Darrent Williams and Vernon Grant.

I agree that it's positive that they all appear to have an axe to grind with trOSU. However, a problem might pop up if they were interviewed separately and still named the same names.

And this is either a direct quote of Miles or someone doing their best to impersonate him:
"I can lead you to where you can get some help."

Isn't it a little early to talk about it being the end of the Muschamp era? He took you to 11-2 last year.

These Florida meltdowns are pretty good:

I'd love to talk about how shitty my team is, but they wouldn't understand something offensive.

Gameplan: Let's prove everyone wrong and show them Driskel is a real good QB!
FUCK IT DIDN'T WORK AGAIN!

This has been the worst Florida game I've watched since forever
And by forever I mean 2 years ago. When it was worse.

Watching a couple of deformed snails race would be more entertaining than watching this shit excuse of a thing we call an "offense."

Who else are they gonna name except the "star" players? Not like we have many guys who even qualify as that, especially when it comes to recruiting.

It's also telling that the guy who wrote this article:

http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefoo...loppy-play-bodes-poorly-for-Mike-Gundy-101511

Was the SI writer who "heard things" and convinced Dohrmann to follow up.

Unimpressed (and relieved) so far. It just sucks they're stretching out the article over 5 days for page hits.

Sounds like somebody in the meltdown wasn't a fan of Turbo.

I didn't mean the players. I meant the boosters and coaches.

Gotcha. Yeah, DeForest definitely has some explaining to do. But as long as there isn't a paper trail and he denies everything there's nothing the NCAA can do.
I think it will come down to a few things:
(1) Does the NCAA want to act? If they want an excuse to make most of this go away, they can hide behind the SOL. However, they can also ignore their SOL if the allegations are "egregious." (See Penn State).
(2) Does the NCAA have the ability/capital/leverage to act? The NCAA has egg on is face still from the Miami scandal, and the way they dealt with Manziel and A&M indicates that they may not be in a position to push for any penalties more than a wrist slap.
(3) Are the players willing to talk? If they don't want to talk to the NCAA and there's no paper trail, then I don't see this going anywhere. But if the NCAA wants to act, has the leverage to act, and can get even one of the former players to go on record, then look out.

Hate that the Meltdown came before I woke up today :(

The "media is out to get us, go look at ____" posts on articles are cracking me up.
I agree that most of the conspiracy theories are funny, but there are reasons to doubt the credibility of this article.

1) The idea for the article came from Thayer Evans, a hack who has a history of fabricating his resumé, putting forth unprovable allegations against other programs (Auburn and Texas, most notably) and with strong ties to Norman and OU boosters. Dohrmann states in the video on the article page that the investigation began when Evans "heard things."

2) The players used as sources have very little credibility, and most (if not all) of them have an axe to grind because they got kicked out of the program or got passed over in favor of other players.

Kinda true, but SMU died more because their administration was laughably corrupt and did a terrible job establishing plausible deniability. Also, they had repeated provable infractions.

Point 2 doesn't really matter, Gondo. For that to be relevant, you would have to imply some sort of conspiracy on their part to collectively lie.

Wearing the old journo hat when viewing the first article, I'm impressed by the broad base of sources. That alone tells me that there's something up. SI wouldn't invest the man power into a 5 part feature piece if there wasn't actually a fire there. Also, I'm not sure most realize this, but this spent at least a month (more likely three) bouncing between Editors, Fact Checkers and then a final lookover by an in-house Counsel (for larger publications). Not that SI hasn't missed the mark before, but nothing is published flippantly, particularly at a magazine.

I've watched Connor Shaw, Aaron Murray, Tommy Reese and Devin Gardner play since I got home from SunLife and all I can tell myself is if I could have put any of those four guys' morning turds at QB for the Gators we would have won by two TDs.

yep

You have to admit, people think your defense is God-tier. You just have a shit-tier offense.

edit: Valenti said today, if you guys don't vastly improve there he sees 3-9.

I could see 3-9. Defense is easily better than last year. Terry is practicing, so they may burn his redshirt soon. The biggest downside is that we don't even have a dependable RB to lean on while the QB mess gets sorted out.

The money trail will be hard to prove. Academics is where I could see there being more of a paper trail. Will anything happen? Probably nothing. At the most, I expect a voluntary 2 scholarship reduction as a show of good faith by OSU and the NCAA will accept it because they can't prove anything and have no credibility.

It's honestly not that bad.

If it were just a handful it wouldn't be that bad. The sheer number of sources, all supposedly interviewed separately, corroborating the story is cause for grave concern not to mention the variety and severity of some of the claims. Lack of institutional control all over that shit.

there's nothing the NCAA can do.

Sure.

However, a problem might pop up if they were interviewed separately and still named the same names.
But if the NCAA wants to act, has the leverage to act, and can get even one of the former players to go on record, then look out.

From the article:
This included 64 former players, all of whom spoke on the record and independently of one another.

64 players on the record and independently interviewed of one another. Time to cover OSU in asbestos because the NCAA is going to rain fire down on that mother.

It wouldn't have mattered much. It sucks seeing players hurt, but no outcome is being altered here.
Agreed, though I'd like these guys to get reps in the new system. Cal's very young this season, and the more they play this year, the better they could be next season.

The NCAA won't do jack shit to the figthing gondos. They will, however, punish the crap out of the next small school to step out of line as a show of force.

I meant on the record to the NCAA. Like we saw in the Manziel case, even if the witness will talk to reporters, the NCAA isn't going to move unless the witness is willing to talk to the NCAA.
