Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (PS3/4/Vita/360/XB1/WiiU/PC) Kickstarter [800K/400K Funded]

GG: WayForward has always featured strong, likeable female characters. How do you think Shantae has helped promote this idea in video games?
MB: We had many, many battles early on and lost. But we stuck to our guns and never made Shantae the 2nd playable character next to a male hero (it was suggested many times). So I like to think we softened the game biz up a bit.

Aaaaaaand donated.

that just convinced me to donate now instead of waiting a couple more weeks. Love the quality of the SG art /Mariel's design. This is like the 3rd game I've kickstarted due to her art.

I'm really happy to hear that Mariel's involved in this project. Shantae's animations will be awesome in her hands.

This project now has my money as well. It's a shame the funding is not going up as fast as Mighty No. 9's campaign, though I suppose that's expected (more popular series). I hope they at least reach the goal.

My second ever KS project.

I like how this is turning out and the art and animation is part of it.

I would be lying if I said the trailer music wasn't sort of catchy as well.

Reading this again. Seems like another example of a Female protagonist not really being wanted by publishers.
I hope that's not the reason for Shantae GBA 's cancellation...
Good that they stuck with Shantae and didn't give in

If you watch Bozon on Sup Holmes, this is exactly the case, albeit a case that happened 10 years ago. You have to give credit to Capcom for taking the leap on the first game, and credit to Bozon & WayForward for sticking to their vision.

We know it still happens today. Like you said. Good that Matt Bozon & WayForward kept Shantae as main character.

Maybe it has been brought up before now but I couldn't help but notice the difference between OP picture vs kickstarter video picture.

Is there an in-game reason for the variation or something?

Pic in OP is an edit by Sciz. She's more tan in-game, but not that dark. I think Matt Bozon said something in 'Sup Holmes about using the base color for the promo stuff, so without the lighting she looks really pale

Yay! Shantae looks like Shantae in that image now! Now they have to recolor those animated Shantae gifs in the banner images!

I want this to at least make it to $600K, $800K is my hope, anything pat $1M is a dream. I just want more transformations. I don't want 3 dances to be a trend, since the GBC original had 5 (counting the Tinkerbat dance).

We've got to make it to the costume swap goal at the least. Ninja Shantae is a must, and I'm sure they've got something good in mind for Patty Wagon Shantae.

That's gonna be difficult.
The last 3 days. We went from 12.320 and 11836 back to 14427.
Meanwhile. We need about 20000/21000 thousand a day to reach 700000
We need to step it it up.

Half genie or not, you would think showing that much skin off outside in the sunlight would give her a tan anyway, the old white design looked like she stayed indoors all the time.

Wayforward: "Hey guys, a few more tweaks from the animation team. See the main page. Day and Night Shantae color pallets are represented."

They updated the little Shantae animations on the front page to tan Shantae.

I hope the upcoming game gets a vita version and not just the 3ds estore. The only shantae game i played was the 2002 release. Haven't played the last two.

Risky Boots isn't the same color she was on Game Boy Color, WayForward is racist.

They shouldn't be allowed to make video game ever again.

The side-by-side comparison of all the sprites is awesome! I hope they do the same for Shantae.

I remember the first time I realized that Risky Boot's top was skull, and it made an open mouth with the hem of her pants, I started chuckling uncontrollably. It's such a great design element, and now it's great that you can actually see it on the screen in gameplay, not just during cutscenes or in key art.

Also, Risky Boots may be THE BEST name ever.

Ah, it's a shame this probably won't hit many of its stretch goals.

Going by the silhouettes, I was guessing that the "old school" TV would be for a pixel art version of the game.

And then I got sad knowing it wouldn't come true.
