DF article GTA V - X360 vs PS3

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
It's pretty silly especially with the PS4 having an advantage next gen. The PS3 vs 360 stuff is academic at this point, really.

Still.. it's good to see that after 8 years of development, we have finally achieved parity in the majority of multiplat games released. :p

Yeah the 360 version has a texture load bug but has a better frame rate.

To not declare them even is weird.

.

I love the fact that you KNOW this is a bug. So, explain to us where you learned that this is a bug, other than coming to the conclusion because you desperately want it to be so? :D

Went with the 360 Special Edition. Was debating hunting down a PS3 version but then I remembered how my 60GB version sounded while playing TLOU and I think I'll just stick with the 360 version. I doubt any of this will be an issue while playing, besides the frame rate.

And, of course, I'll eventually double dip if there is a PC version. Would love it if there was some sort of Mass Effect style PC/Xbox save transfer but that's probably asking for too much.

GTA 4 was nearly unplayable for me on 360 because of the low frame rate. So, all i care for is for GTA5 to be smoother than that. DF article shows a 25-26fps average. Is that smoother than GTA4 or the same? If its the same i'll pass.

It's the same and it's pretty bad.

It has a better framerate in cutscenes - NOT gameplay. Re-read the article.

That's why they're not declared even. In like for like gameplay scenarios, DF even says that the PS3 version marginally comes out on top.

Gotta love the "hahaha PS3 is winnar" posts. Reading the article seems to indicate negligible differences, other than the ground texture issue. But I guess those that own PS3 exclusively need to claim their scare multi-platform related victories when they can.

What's interesting is that I was at a friend's house last night and we noticed several texture related pop-in issues on my PS3 and far fewer on his 360. Maybe the difference is that I have an older PS3 and he has a newer slim model 360?

I wonder if this might be a "your mileage may vary" type of thing.

From the very beginning GTAV was going to come down to a controller preference and/or which console you had more friends on. With that said DF does a great job of pointing out the difference for those individuals who own both consoles and are trying to get the most out of their purchase.

I don't think anyone is really screaming victory here, sure there is a slight IQ edge to the PS3 but nothing to write home about. No need to jab PS3 owners though. It is nice to see that when a dev takes the time they can produce a multi-plat game with parity.

I've played both versions and I just can't really grasp how they can sway the recommendation so heavily in favor of the ps3.

There's a real weird vibe going on... ontop of the leaked files showing a ps4 and PC version but no mention of an Xbone version. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist but I feel all this is leading up to another GTA exclusive deal with Sony once the new generation gets started and what we are seeing now is just the beginnings of that relationship.
Man, for a little bit I read your post and was baffled, thought you were thrakier for a min, saying you played this unplayable game, more so on both consoles....ha ha

I do think a PS4/PC version is in the works, I also believe the Xbone will get a port as well, there's no point in going exclusive with GTA at this point.

Sill, it looks like the 360 version does run a tad smoother overall (though, really, when they're both sub-30 fps at the same points a 2 fps difference isn't a big deal).

I noticed the same thing. The 360 version is almost constantly a couple frames ahead of the PS3.

It seems a little odd to me that he chose the PS3 version here. This seems like a tie based on the evidence shown.

You might want to actually watch that gameplay video, because it doesn't fit the text in the article.

Are we reading the same article? They are not swaying the recommendation so heavily in favor of the PS3. They are stating that the nod goes to PS3 but there are trade-offs. At the end of the day the game looks/runs nearly identical on both consoles.

99% of PS360 multiplatform games don't even have visible differences. They're all negligible. Call me when one game has a substantial framerate advantage (e.g. locked 30 vs 20-28FPS)

Why don't customers shop around? I just checked Grainger Games and they have people queuing up to part with £45.

I strolled into Tesco and got it for £38.

Mugs!

Edit: Oops, wrong thread.

Guys just get it and enjoy it. Before people knew which one DF liked best they were very happy with the 360 version. The streamer Neogaf guy Sethos played that version and gave it very high praise. You can't go wrong no matter which one you get if you want to play it soon.Take it from a guy that played and loved the PS3 version of Bayonetta. As long as you're having fun no one can make you stop unless you let them. I gave away a ton of my PS3 games but I made sure I kept Bayonetta. 360 people give PS3 Bayonetta owners so much crap, same with RDR and so on. I even have a 360 now (thinking about it I should get that version but I'd have to start over).

Can't we all just get along?

The game will be great regardless of which system you purchase it for. I pray to God I'm never as stuck up as some of you Elitist-mentality PC jackasses.

Just saw the DF video. Wow, this game is a mid 20FPS shitfest.

Just like GTA4.

I can't wait for the PC version to come out.

Indeed. I simply cannot stand games that go below the base minmum, this is the type of shit I have to deal with in games like TLOU where my input does not register in time causing unneeded penalties. They better start working their kinks next-gen because this "bigger, stronger" machismo attitude in game development is pissing me off.

yeah having played the game, if you want high frame rates wait on it

it looks STUNNING for current gen. personally I dont mind the trade off but I like exploring environments and taking my time (vs racing for example)

but the game is just too ambitious to run nice on current consoles. its gonna be amazing on ps4/xbone/pc though, massive leap in quality from IV

I'm actually confident Rockstar has mastered the Cell.

Aww yisss. Got it in the mail today. Pretty rough after being used to playing this sort of game on PC but nevertheless a positive surprise technically and perfectly playable.

I've always said that devs need to prioritise IQ and framerate over any fancy graphical effects. I simply will not buy any game which runs at 25FPS for 90% of the game. I know the next-gen gen consoles aren't packing monster specs, but they are a substantial improvement over what we have. I hope all games will be minimum 30FPS next gen :\

Slow down there. It isn't stuck up to want a game to run at 30+ fps. If GTA V was being released today on PC, then I would be getting that as it would provide a better experience.

Glad I grabbed the PS3 version. The non-installation of the disc on my 360 would push me to the PS3 version regardless, my launch 360's been on it's last leg for a while now.

Can't wait to get home.

Haha, Rockstar strikes again. The framerate is a huge pile of shit, they just don't give a damn for playability and gameplay and gamers around the world just eat it up. At this point, I have simply not much hope for console gaming anymore. The overall quality in "craftsmanship" seems to degrade further and further and people are fine with it. Like McDonalds is the superior food as long as the portions are just big and cheap enough. Quantity over quality. Maybe it's the mobile gaming markets fault, it's success to be more precise. I can't think of one mobile game I played with a great framerate.

this post.. is weird. where have you been the last 20 years? console games have always had shit framerates.

if anything, things are better now. i'm preeeeetty sure GTAV runs and plays smoother than San Andreas on PS2. much smoother in fact. so it's not as if we have gone backwards and some evil corporations are just milking us stupid gamers who don't know any better..

oh well, i'm just glad i'm not that sensitive to visual compromises. even sub-hd GTAIV on PS3 is still amazing to me, just played it two days ago and was wowed :) i'm really surprised GTAV is actually 720p on PS3 now, great job Rockstar. these old consoles can't really do any better than this. on to the next-gen we go.

careful there.. namecalling won't get you far here. and some of us play on both you know, PC and consoles.

I'm not shitting on the game for not running at 1080p60. The fact it can't even maintain a smooth 30 is awful.

Good point man, PS3 owners had some bad ports not because the machine is/was incapable but because devs prioritized the highest selling/easier to develop console earlier this gen, towards the end of this gen they're doing more on the PS3 and using that console as the lead platform more often.

All PS3 owners wanted was at least parity, who cares about negligible differences like being 1-2 frames apart in performance, when you had bigger issues like games being sub hd on PS3 and native on the 360, madden being 30fps on the PS3 and 60 on the 360, this was never warranted. If PS3 has been getting the nod for more high profile games as this generation has matured it is easy to understand that PS3 owners would be thrilled for the turnaround.

I personally think its great, but i like exploring environments and taking my time so framerate isnt an issue

if you want to do stuff like racing and a good fps 30+, this wont please you and you should wait. it slows down when its most important (eg racing, chases etc)

Woah there buddy .. why would you assume that the elitist mentality jackasses are only PC owners ? plenty of console owners are like that too :p

who expected a rock solid 30fps from the most ambitious open-world game this gen? hell, even a lot of great more linear games can't reach that.. The Last Of Us, Dark Souls, Killzone 2 etc.

So PS3 wins through textures over frame rate, a personal preference. Otherwise its a wash.

That's great news.
Not a fan of DF, don't like how they downplay issues with 360 code to glitches and the dev's fault, however; according to them the framerate advantage on 360 is mostly in cutscenes. They mentioned that whilst playing the game the PS3 pulls ahead in more crucial situations and in more extended play.

This will not happen because Gamers don't give a fuck for image quality or framerate except maybe 5%. Most of them don't even notice. Hell, even reviewers don't give a fuck. I didn't read any GTA V reviews but I don't need to to know that it probably got very high ratings in the graphics departement as well.

for hardware that came out in 2006 and was probably locked into a design in 2005 (2005!!! I was a single man then, I have a daughter in pre-k now..thats how old these damned things are.) this is pretty impressive. Anyone got a 8 year old PC running stuff like this at 1080/60??? didnt think so.

now roll out these new consoles and make this game for them, and I might buy it.

Cant wait to see what these guys do on new hardware in a few years, i want to see it be an open world where you just spawn, and make your own story based on your own actions, no preconceieved character goals or missions..all generated based on what you do. Do it Mr Houser.

I thought no one took DF serious because they were MS fanboys or whatever

...What happened?
I'm sure we'll be back to that soon enough. On my end, as an owner of all the consoles, I've always found it useful as another source to factor into my decision on which version to get.

Glad I got the 360 version after seeing that. Barely any difference, can live with the ground textures (especially if it ends up being a bug that can be fixed) and I get to use the best controller for the game. I'd dare say the PS3 version would have had to be noticeably better quality for me to want to use the Dual Shock to play.
