So the fiml burning thing, it agains points to the idea that this is a "reliving memories" kind of thing.

Lighting looks great. I hope the game will have this kind of free-roaming style of play, seems to be a good way to make use of all the tools and features.

The x-ray thing is fine, but maybe it needs to be adjusted. Just making it a difficulty thing is not a good idea, the game must be designed itself with the feature. I think having the tag above the head when the enemy is visible is fine, to help you see them after being tagged, but seeing through walls from so far is a bit much.

The franchise has changed a lot and lost it's character that made it likable for me.

MGS started from best to worst in the order the games came out:

MGS1 : The best
MGS2: Good
MGS3: Meh
MGS4: Bad (didn't feel mgs)
MGS5: ????

x-ray,enemy tagging, slowmo, holograph map. This feels futuristic to me, this isn't Dead Space, how does he have that tech in the 80's ? It breaks that level of realism, apart from the monsters and bosses and other shit, mgs was realistic given the time-frame the game was set.

This is my opinion.

Just saw the video. The day lighting clearly makes it look better, they achieved a very natural life-like result. Problem is you can tell that everything else is current gen level stuff.
This is going to look terribly outdated when it's released in late 2014/early 2015 if it's representative of next gen footage.
With that being said my problem is not with the graphics, I can deal with them although I'm disappointed since Kojima used to be at the forefront of console graphics, but I'm not feeling the game. It plays like your generic military shooter with open maps. It's basically a technically advanced Peace Walker which takes further inspiration from games like Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. I would have liked to see something else :/ Of course it's just me, maybe many other people are going to like this direction.

A clone like Solid Snake is futuristic, the entire world of Metal Gear is a futuristic dream.

Dude the USK in germany tested the 360 version on 4 september, it`s almost done.

The strength of the MGS franchise is that it has never done the same thing twice. Every single new MGS entry adds MAJOR gameplay enhancements, things that make it play very differently from the last game while retaining the MGS feel. MGS5 is no different, lots of new enhancements but it is still very much MGS.

Every single MGS game is about the stealth action playground, They gave you rooms and has the series went on bigger areas with a bunch of guards and your goal is to get through them any way you choose. The fun from MGS games was the unparalleled freedom you had in those areas, so many options at your disposal, stealth ones and loads of action ones. MGS5 is doing that exact same thing on a scale we have never seen before. More choices than ever before.

Again I ask you what did you guys do with those old MGS demos? You played them for 10 plus hours, just a few tiny rooms of guards and a limited move base. Think of what you can do with that base and all those options at your disposal.

Realism? What's real about a franchise where in the year 2014 the world is controlled by a sentient AI communicating with nano machines injected into every soldier, gigantic walking mechs exist, bipedal robots with organic legs exist, people can talk to each other through nano machine brain communcications. We also have hundred year old snipers, ghosts, psychics, immortals and robot women

So is there no translation of what Kojima said. Are you telling me that over 2 hours of him talking across all presentations he never once gave out any new info?

Maybe it's not the game or it's just a preliminary rating to put the game in their database? I don't know but if it was almost done we would have a release date, Kojima refused to confirm 2014 at TGS....

This looks like a dream come true. Why are there x-rays on the soldiers? Is it because of the phantom pain theme? Does this mean that you can hit them in different bones?

MSF experimental tech. MSF R&D staff are the best! :p

I am sure the Xbox 360 / PS3 versions are already gold and the next-gern version is the problem.

That's what I said. That's ok but not holograms. Doesn't blend well with the time and MGS in general imo.

Looks amazing. I could see hours of fun messing around in that base.

Only thing I don't like is the enemies turning blue when you look at them, hopefully that can be turned off.

Gold means that they are printing retail copies right now :p
That's clearly not the case, the game still HASN'T a release date. Of course development should ahead on current gen versions compared to PS4/Xbox One because the game is meant to be a current gen title.
I'm not informed about how these classifications work but I'm pretty sure that the game is not coming anytime soon (<6 months).

Not sure what I was expecting, but it looks like the animations and poor AI haven't changed one bit since last-gen (the lighting looks phenomenal though). The barrel explosion looked pretty awful too- hopefully it's just a filler asset.

Was a little disappointed at the scene where he faced those two guards. Expected Snake to do some kind of Deus Ex double takedown. The rest looks okay and interesting. Not as polished as I hoped but I'm pretty sure that this will end up being a great stealth game.

One of the other games they also already rated is Lightning Returns which is getting released in February 2014. So yeah, there's a good chance that we still have to wait a couple of month.

Japanese publishers just seem to quite early with sending in their copies, a game like GTA 5 got its rating merely 2 weeks before launch.

Can an opinion be wrong?

Looks really good graphically, apart from the distracting, shitty looking blood splatter on the screen.

The animations still look very last gen though, especially how you transition into the hand to hand combat or when you're falling but I guess the game is still far off.

But nothing really impressed me, nothing about the game was like "wow, that look really fun"! I kinda kept waiting for something to happen.

Between fox engine and GTA V I'm really impressed by the improvements in lighting these days.

I wonder though, if this is what the game looks like on PS4, what were previous demos and tech demos of mgsv and fox engine running on ? It looked pretty much the same.

In an interview with Game Informer, Hideo Kojima talked about how they’re trying to deal with difficulty level in a game that focusses on open world gameplay and player choices.

“Now that it’s an open world game it’s rather difficult to balance that because the players can pretty much choose whatever route they want. Depending on the player, the difficulty they encounter will be different. So that has been a little bit difficult balancing out the difficulty level in the game.”

Metal-Gear-Solid-ground-Zeroes-Helicopter.jpg

“That said, each mission has its own difficulty level. There are some missions that are easier or more difficult. In that way we can balance. Given that it’s an open world, more than the difficulty of each mission, it’s choices that the player has to make.”

“For example in a Ground Zeroes mission, you have this mission you have rescue Chico, and a challenge within that is to clear it with no kills, no alerts, or within two hours. That’s really something that makes a huge difference in how the player perceives the whole mission.”

The last quote makes it sound like a reward system is still in place for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more. Like in previous games in the series, playing through the game undetected or without making any kills may offer some bonuses, such as special ranks or badges the player could collect.

Radar =/= seeing through walls. Also classic radar hasnt been around since MGS2.

It's pretty much the same thing. The Soliton Radar actually gives you more information via the vision cones. You don't have to spot enemies either with it either.

I wonder if people would have had the same reaction if MGSV just straight up had a Soliton Radar.

Exactly. It is EASIER with the Soliton Radar, which IS an optional feature in Metal Gear games past the first. (You are REWARDED for not using it in MGS2, for sure.) I'm guessing that there's a pretty good chance that enemy marking will be an "optional" feature by the time the game is ready for release.

Another thing, I have no idea how people think this is any less MGS? I really just don't get it. Some people keep talking about how much action there was. Uh, hello? There was an alert phase? If you get an alert in previous Metal Gear games, what do you do? Either quit out to the main menu, because you're going for the Big Boss ranking or you play to complete the game, despite alerts and shoot your way out - by lethal or non-lethal means or just run away. Which is what was shown off last night... Right? So, I don't see what makes this "NOT MGS."

Totaly agree, its like everyone had a memory wipe. Tagging is already optional, you just don't do it. Then you have the guys that say its a gameplay mechanic so they will use it, exactly it is there for a reason. The game probably doesnt work well without some kind of indication where enemies are. But I guess if it was simply a god like radar from past MGS games that tells you where all enemies are (especially through walls) without you even having to do any recon everyone would be ok with it.

I figured he gave the enemies tags because it would be too hard otherwise. The game would literally be impossible unless you trail error the map and draw it out the further you get.

The scenario wouldn't even play out like this in the actual game. He called the escape chopper RIGHT over the base to trigger the alarm to show how it plays as action game, at that point in the game it is your only one and you'd have to return by foot or some other means when it's destroyed.

You'd just call another chopper. lol

Im always up for a new MGS game, and this looks like it will deliver another great game.

But it looks like a ps3 game (not a bad thing, but it doesn't look any better than the last one to me...granted my memory of how it looks could be skewed.)

It looks fantastic, the quicker, more accessible design of Peace Walker, with more flexibility in approaches and 'wider' level design.

Pretty much exactly what I'd like to see.

If this really is this year, looks like I'm buying a PS4.

Looks damn good and I'm not just talking about the graphics. However, I'd like to see a play-through on a much more difficult setting and without GOD mode enabled.

Never played MGS4?

Please.

Health that slowly regenerates under certain conditions and Call of Duty esque health regen are not the same thing. Watch the video. It takes 10 seconds at best for him to regen to full from a near death state.

Phantom Pain is definitely not this year, but Ground Zeroes will likely be out in the next six months.

Thats why he got the car and escaped, clearly when you reach an exit point a cutscene triggers to show you escaped and ended the mission.

The lighting on Snake's suit is amazing... but so many tell tale signs this is a PS3 game first. Vegetation and shadows especially
