Ubisoft: Unsure if Watch Dogs will be 720p or 1080p on PS4/X1; confirms 30fps

can't wait to get past this cross-gen bullshit.

Really, really disappointing if Ubi can't hit 1080p on XB1/PS4 with this.

I mean, is ACIV confirmed at 1080p for the next gen systems?

Oh launch games, always fun.

Goes to show the difference between a first party title, or exclusive ( Ryse / Killzone / Res0gun ) compared to a third party game being built for 5+ platforms and the launch of new platforms.

Expectations high , results low.

Yea I decided not to go for this, will probably just save the money for games next year. It will be disappointing if it is 720p/30fps.

I've come to embrace our 720p upscaled to 1080p, 30fps next gen future.

But I wasted a bunch of money on a good TV apparently.

thanks for the laugh
The obsession people are having over what resolution a game will display in, even to the point of influencing their buying habits is baffling to me. Surely, if the game runs silky smooth and looks great, why should a drop in res affect my enjoyment of the game?

because 30fps isn't silky smooth and 720p doesn't look great.

It's even worse. His words sound more like they are targeting 30 FPS. Since there is no GTA5 on the PC as of yet I'm looking forward to this game.

It's a launch title, they'll learn how to optimize with practice and time. 720P wouldn't be that bad, at least that's progress compared to current gen.

also, it's a cross-gen title.

30 FPS is fine for an open world game, but I'm calling bullshit on the fact that he "doesn't know" what resolution it's running at. They just don't want people cancelling their preorders.

Regardless of how bad this is on consoles though, I'm never playing another Ubisoft game on PC again after dealing with how broken Splinter Cell: Conviction is thanks to Uplay not playing nice with Steam.

I'm calling that he genuinely has no idea and that the game will run at 1080p (or, at least somewhere between 720p and 1080p) on the next gen consoles.

I'm in no matter what, the only launch edition available when I preordered were this and knack, and I chose this. :D

I find it curious that they can't go 60 on this, though, if it runs on old hardware.

If they're doing 30 fps, I hope they're able to lock it at that and zero tearing. They're "focusing" on a steady 30 fps, but the word I was looking for is "locked."

How can they not know if the game will run at 720 or 1080? the game is releasing in a couple of months.

3 possibilities :

1- They know, it's 720p, they don't want to tell you
2- They know, it's 720p on one, 1080p on the other, they don't want to tell you
3- They have no idea what they are doing

benevolent sexism

Your post is still a failure of critical thinking, though.

I.e., one example of a cross-gen launch title says very little about multiplat differences overall. Nothing that "some GAF members" told you has been disproven yet, unless they said "Watch Dogs is going to run way faster on PS4 bro!" Did they say that?

Glad I cancelled my preorder. No excuse for that game to not be 1080p/60fps.

ahhhhhhhhhhh boy,........ these posts :/

Big congratulations to Ubisoft for giving the finger to the 60fps crowd for what appears to be an SP focused game! Many of us SP gamers who want a good single player experience with some nice graphics (see: Uncharted for example) salute you.

You guys choose whatever frame rate you're comfortable with!

I was so pumped for this game, then uplay was added and now it's 720p and 30fps?

Fuck that, thanks for saving me 70 bucks, Ubi.

Completely subjective.

GTAV runs @ 30 fps (mostly). Not sure what resolution its at, whether its 720p or less (probably less) but the game looks stunning to me.

Yeah, more FPS and more res would be great, but will the less of one dictate whether I pick it up or not? OF course not....

Its kind of depressing.

Obviously GTA V was a completely unplayable mess and doesnt belong on any GOTY lists because it wasn't 1080p/60fps.

But to be fair they brought it on themselves with their bullshit. You build up expectations and you fail to deliver and people naturally get upset.

Too bad GTA V completely satisfied any kind of hunger I had for this game.

Yeah, if this had been released a month before I would gladly buy Watch Dogs. But now my hype for the game has died and I'm going to buy it when it gets a bit cheaper down the road :/

Ubi's open world games rarely run at a solid 60 on any hardware.

Gotta wait and see how it looks once it's out. Might wait on a sale of the PC version if it doesn't look good. But I'm sure it'll look fine.

"Unsure" better be their polite way of saying that the Xbone version is 720p and the PS4 version is 1080p. 30fps doesn't bother me as long as it's locked, but god knows how the game will run on current-gen hardware if that's the case.

"Despite confirming the frame rate, though, Morin could not confirm the game's native resolution on next-gen platforms, claiming that he didn't know whether the game would run at 720p or 1080p."

Platform holders should set 1080p as a requirement.

what? PS4 should be able to run it 1080@30fps steady, get your shit together Ubi

It should, but Ubisoft seems pretty incompetent when it comes to the tech side of game development. I've never not had issues with their games. This is looking like a rental for me at this point.
