I hope it works. It might not be ideal for games now but it could be brilliant for games designed with it in mind.

Been a while since I seen so much knee jerking.
Same. Can't wait to see impressions.

Comments are no surprise from people whose options are limited to a walled garden console platform. I don't even think some people can comprehend the fact that it's not intended to be any kind of requirement or standard - it's an open platform.

I'm deeply curious, but I won't be tossing my 360 controller out the window just yet. This really seems like the sort of thing you can only understand once you get your hands on it.

I need to know more about the haptic feedback, if it can convincingly simulate the feel of thumbsticks, then we could have a gamechanger right here.

Also, since it has a screen it's probably going to be like $99 standalone

That looks pretty revolutionary. It's nice to see someone finally doing something different than the same controller layout that's existed since the SNES/PS1 days. That's kind of the direction I was expecting Nintendo to go with their next-gen controller before the Wii U was revealed.

How do you jump then?

On the left pad you can see the third option starts with "Sp" and tails off into "ace Bar" if I had to guess. I just don't understand what makes the different things on each pad actually work.

Wow its an abomination, thought i clicked into a parody thread for a moment and was shocked when it was real. No one is going to want to use that over controls sticks / mouse, they are out of their minds.

Touch instead of button? No thanks, count me out.
Just like when I thought most smartphone will suck without button like old cellphone, and it did sucks, for me.

It looks like it bends into your palms instead of away from them. I can't imagine that being more comfortable than the traditional 360 controller shape. The rest seems very interesting.

I am very, very impressed with this with what I am reading.

Someone totally needed to do this. Valve you may be upsetting me with Dota 2, but you're doing awesome things still!

I really don't understand why anyone would think it looks even remotely good or "brilliant"

It's not about looks sir.

I look forward to trying this controller. As someone who primarily uses the Wii U Pro Controller for PC games (works a lot better than the Xbox 360 controller or the DUALSHOCK 3 for PC games in my opinion), I'd love to have an option built from the ground up for control of every single PC game. The design is different from pretty much anything we've ever seen, sure, but that doesn't make it bad. I especially like that fact that the touch screen in the middle is clickable.

Not really liking the design.

Will be sticking with Xbox controller for PC games that honestly need it, or keyboard and mouse.

It's interesting though, not sure if it will catch on though.

They seem to have forgotten about all of the Steam games that work best with a traditional controller in their pursuit to create a replacement for the keyboard and mouse.

Am I going to be able to play Rogue Legacy with this?

The controller is only for Steam, how is that open?

How the heck I'm supposed to play Dota with this?

Its meant to work with all current, legacy, and future games as long as they have m/kb controls.
That is the key to the design.

The Steam Controller is designed to work with all the games on Steam: past, present, and future. Even the older titles in the catalog and the ones which were not built with controller support. (We’ve fooled those older games into thinking they’re being played with a keyboard and mouse, but we’ve designed a gamepad that’s nothing like either one of those devices.)

The controller is only for Steam, how is that open?

False, see above.

Actually, better yet, go read the article. There are several points that are in direct opposition to your opinion.

This is weird as hell.

And I'm disappointed I can't order one today because my initial reaction is just, "This is fucking bizarre, I must try it immediately. "

Emulating dpads and wasd on touchscreens has been an absolute shit show for an entire generation. I'm not sure if it's a problem that can be solved.

I don't know if it's just fanboys or people are blind by their love of steam but this controller looks like a piece of fucking shit.

It looks like some hot garbage that comes with a knock-off console you buy at the flea market for $10.

I love the looks, hate the idea of twin touchpads.

Quite surprised in some way that they went this far out of left field, but I guess I shouldn't be.

I can't see it taking off myself.

There are only two possible outcomes for this controller: Either this is a revolution and the best thing since NeoGAF or it's the mentally and physically disabled brother of the Power Glove.

Either way, I'm excited.
