Yoshi's Cookie VC being discontinued, buy or redownload by 9 AM this Friday (Oct 18)

Interesting note - take a look at the notice for Yoshi's Cookie:

The Virtual Console title Yoshi's Cookie (500 Wii Points) will be discontinued at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. If you'd like to purchase this title or have already purchased and would like to redownload, please do so before this time.We apologize for any inconenience

We have to redownload by the 18th? I found this odd, so I checked the VC shop, and can't see a selection for Donkey Kong Country, which I purchased. This could be because I have DKC on my Wii U SD card, or perhaps the option to redownload is tied to my original Wii. Or is the option to redownload a discontinued game on a different menu? I don't think I've ever had to do it.

You can re-downloaded at anytime btw. Just go to the downloaded games area. You just can't buy it ever again (unless re-added).
Err wait, you can't redownload after that date? That's odd. I've been able to do so with Donkey Kong Country. odd

Perhaps the original developers (Bullet-Proof Software) have something to do with this?

It was discontinued in EU & JP last Friday I believe.

That is fucked up for people that bought the game.

Isn't the "no redownloads" part a new low on consoles? (if it's true, obviously)

I don't recall discontinued PSN/XBL content being affected that way.

Certainly wasn't that way before on Wii either, which is odd. I could still re-download Sonkey Kong Country, even after it was discontinued.

I suspect the text in the OP is ambiguous and you will still be able to download after that date using the purchase history function. Who knows, though?

And Nintendo fans still wonder why some of us hate the way Nintendo handles its "account system".

I seriously cannot believe that they'd really remove the ability to redownload for people who have already bought the game. Has to be incorrect/badly worded in the statement.

Well this is pretty odd. Is it just the Wii Version?

Wasn't this one of the 30 cent Wii U ones too? Will it be removed there?

No redownloads? What the heck? I've got Fate/Unlimited Codes on PSN which got discontinued because of licensing issues, but because I bought it, I'm still able to redownload it at any time. This is all kinds of sleazy on Nintendo's end.

Yeah, at this point we might have to wait and see... Makes no sense.

According to the wikipedia page... they made Tetris for Famicom* and Gameboy. Their latest game is Tetris Stars on Facebook in 2011.

*why doesn't this say NES instead? The page seems rather inconsistent because a Japan-only game was listed as NES instead of Famicom... lol

The strangest thing is that other removed downloadable titles on Nintendo systems can be redownloaded and yet not this one.

developed by "bullet proof software"

who are they? second party? or 3rd party?

Actually, I´ve known the word "Bullet Proof" roughly a decade before I actually found out what it meant from looking at the Tetris Gameboy startup screen so much (non-english speaker).

This is why an all-digital future is scaring me.

If you can't redownload delisted things after delisting, that's ridiculous.

But, it is nice that they give a warning about delisting, every other platform just pulls the rug from underneath you.

So tired of seeing old games removed. Virtual Console should've been above all this; it was suppose to be the gaming version of itunes, but all this licensing bullshit will never allow for such a service to exist. Even Nintendo's own games aren't safe from it, which is really discouraging.

Got myself a nice RGB CRT monitor recently, and plan to mod some of my old systems to output RGB. I own tons of old cartridges, and no one can take them away from me on a whim. I'm sorry Virtual Console, but I just can't take anymore of your crap. I bid you farewell.

Weird.. At first I was going to say maybe Henk Rogers has a problem with Nintendo now, but BPS doesn't even exist anymore!

Interesting. I would have assumed Nintendo would have secured ownership of all titles developed for them regardless of who the developer is. What's the story behind this?
