Super Mario 3D World - Introduction video

Just played some smb2 to see that Marios posture is the same in 3d world. It isnt surprising, but I really like the look where Mario is holding his fists up to his side. Adds a certain charm to his character.

I kind of cringed playing through smb2, knowing it was a different game, reskinned for smb2.

This game, to me, redeems what they did to smb2. The character selection, and their unique abilities, is what made that game for me. Now they took that idea, threw it into an mario game made from the ground up, and took it to another level.

Here's two lame attempts of my own, just to put some perspective on how amazing Manny's suggestion is (Shocking alberto's is really funny as well imo, though less catchy)

Eh I hate talking about music because it always comes down to one side saying something wasn't "memorable". I can remember the music in the game just fine. But to try and address something that isn't completely subjective. I don't know how you could call MOST of the music in SS (or TP for that matter) atmospheric. Really, ever since 3d Zelda has replaced with dungeon and cave music with the more moody variety, all 3d Zeldas pretty much have same atmospheric to thematic ratio.

When I say "atmospheric" I'm referring to songs along the lines of this. You're right in saying SS isn't completely like this but the game has a weird balance of orchestra/MIDI where the former appears rather infrequently aside from the Sky (you only really hear it during boss battles and cutscenes), which is why I only remember some of the more elaborate stuff. I preferred how the Galaxy games handed this.

To each their own, though. We're getting off-topic anyway.

Anybody else notice that the grass no longer seems to move in the first world? :(

It was nice and subtle before, but it appears to have been taken out.

I think I still see it.

The effect is on the world map for sure, so we know its in the game at least.

Nintendo is really doing some impressive graphical work on the Wii U. Completed Wind Waker HD a couple weeks ago and was almost constantly blown away (some dungeon textures didn't impress) every minute I spent with it. From what I've seen of Super Mario 3D World I won't be surprised if my feelings are the same graphics-wise as Wind Waker HD. But most importantly, hopefully it's fun to play.

I bought my Wii U last December and was severely disappointed with it up until very recently. My PC and Wii U--can't believe I'm saying this--will keep me entertained until I'm ready to make the plunge on PS4 next year.

Hmm looking at that video, I guess this game does seem to have a similar scope as Galaxy in terms of level design..I forgot how linear those games were.

Mario games levels have never been huge. You could make an argument for 64 and Sunshine, but even Sunshine's levels weren't so big (they were more about heights).

This game's scope does seem similar to the galaxy games (only a bit crammed).

I knew watching this was a mistake, I just knew it. This game...THIS GAME...

How can I be expected to wait another month? I cannot do it. I don't think I've been this excited for a new Mario game since the original Super Mario Galaxy. I have a strong feeling that 3D World will easily end up within my Top 5 favorite Mario games, perhaps even higher. EAD Tokyo has done it again.

That was dripping with creativity. Just when you think they've lost it... POW. They hit you with another gem. That was Nintendo at there finest. This is like Ocarina of Time all over again. Hype, hype, hype.

Yeah, I always had faith that the game was going to be good. But, EAD Tokyo seemingly keep topping themselves. Will they ever hit the ceiling?

I am moving back to London from Edinburgh some time in November. Breaking up with my fiancé, can't wait to get back to life and have some of those financial freedoms. I will have a WiiU before Christmas. Only problem is I need a TV too.

Just to set up the console. After that you can play on the Gamepad. :D

Looks amazing, as expected. Only one thing bothers me: Why is Nintendo neglecting the red Toad since New Mario Bros Wii? I mean, he's the original Toad, he should be there.

Because they can color code all 4 players this way, and Mario is red.
