My guess is that Microsoft is calling for a complete embargo on any review for Xbox One games so that the public doesn't find out how they stack up against the PS4.

That's a shitty move. So when will we actually see gameplay from XB1? November 21st?

Well if gaming journalists know that the games are not comparable, they have a duty to inform the public when it comes to that sort of deception. They cannot just sit there and smile while MS does something completely unethical. That's assuming there's major, noticeable differences (as has been implied by some rumors) between multiplatform titles.

If there isn't, you're in more of a grey area. But if MS had nothing to hide, they'd be promoting the hell out of XB1 footage. Seems sketchy. On the other hand, letting the grenade blow up in Microsoft's lap might be the best thing for everyone at this point.

It's just very odd how little XB1 captured footage is being allowed out into the wild right now.

Gaming journalists rarely feel compelled to inform gamers of pertinant info

Didn't several game reviewers say they reviewed the PS3 version of Skyrim even though they never received the game?

But why so cryptic? If there really is an embargo that's really messed up

Messed up for us, a win for MS. Why let reviewers have a chance to shit all over the Xbone versions of games when comparing them to PS4? A possible embargo prevents all of the negativity to come out on launch day when all of it would be swept under the rug anyway from the ridiculous sales news. Is it true? No idea.

Yeah, that's a form of fabrication. I'm just talking about the ethical tenets of journalism, which basically don't exist in an industry run by a handful of big players. Maybe someone will be brave enough to break rank if it comes to it or is deemed necessary.

If Microsoft has issued a software embargo then that will backfire on them tremendously. Xbox One games will be under even more scrutiny. It's also a sign of a complete lack of confidence. Sony is holding an event and Microsoft is potentially issuing an embargo? Yikes.

We're talking about the Xbox One, here.

No. I'm tired of people making threads about vague tweets.

Gotcha.

I does look more and more than MS has the Xbox One reviews, footage or whatever on total lockdown. Things must be in pretty rough shape. It's the only plausible explanation as to why they would do this.

I really wonder how bad the multiplats are faring. The BF4 footage doesn't look all too terrible.

The whole twitter thing seems immature.
I guess these people don't have the balls to be journalists, so they parade the faux twitter concern posts.

Why act and pretend the appearance of a gag order, but then follow with the silly twitter stuff? Why are they covering up or protecting?

Hopefully this is not about a company, but about some personal shared subject between these people. Otherwise....

Paging CBoat. Please bestow upon us commoners any knowledge you may have about these grumblings on twitterverse. I offer you my tears for your bidet.

Boy, if the games really do come half-baked on the XB1, then it won't be good. Even the PS3 didn't have this issue at launch with multiplats. Some didn't include full multiplayer (CoD3, THP8), but the graphical differences to the 360 were negligible.

Snap mode better be good

Nowadays the negative press spreads like wildfire. Sony didn't have it that bad

That's not true at all.

Did you already forgot about madden 30/60 FPS . I would say cod 4 was the first big Multiplatform game that finally didn't gimp ps3

I'd risk saying GAF is such a thing. I'm also disgusted with the situation in the gaming press. They're supposed to be the fifth power and protect us from corporations. In the real world (politics and such), journalists risk lives to reveal the truth. Of course gaming is not worth it but it's also not that dangerous. What would happen if they demonstrated disobedience? No review copies, no invitations to corporate events? They're earning money with their work, can't their publishers afford to buy a game for review, FFS?! Okay, they get them earlier. And that is, frankly saying, the only value of "professional" reviews. If most of us got games earlier, we'd be able to do the same work. That's also why some journos get so cocky on Twitter. Having earlier access is their only commodity so they desperately try to compensate with their egos.

The whole situation has to change sooner or later. Recent events of the DRM fiasco prove that unhappy users are a deciding power, even if they're not totally supported by the media (toned down reactions from major media outlets). GAF is also getting more and more attention from the big players. I hope we prevail and our mods protect us. I hope less and less people are scared to speak up about facts. We need more CBOATS in the industry to fight dishonesty and lack of transparency. If people like Sessler and Gies want to hide in the holes they dug up for themselves, let them stay there forever. They add no value to this community and should be ignored.

But ut3 wasn't . I loved that game with mods allowed on ps3. Ran smooth as butter.

Wasn't it delayed though? A lot of games were delayed

I guess they're not really journalists. They're just critics

I don't understand this. Why the outrage by Sessler and Polygon man and so forth? If MS is trying to push you around, just tell the truth. Just say whatever it is that's happening. Be a reporter. Truth. Transparency. Not cowering and hiding. What is this? You afraid MS won't give you an exclusive down the road? Maybe you won't get the games early? Who cares? Tell the truth.

The story isn't the game you need an early copy of to rush a review out the door. [Assuming speculation about embargos are true] The story is MS trying to silence criticism. *THAT* is the story. So report on it. Truth to power, like you said, right?

Then they risk blacklisting, which is why what you're asking for won't happen.

If everyone tells the truth, MS can't blacklist everyone. Beyond that, you can live without an early review copy. Wait until the game comes out, buy it, and report on it. No one can stop you from doing that or blacklist you from doing that.

If major review outlets all got blacklisted and reported truthfully on what happened and why, is that really worth it for MS? If these people like the idea of speaking "truth to power" why not, uh, do it?

This is the problem with gaming journalism and it's been that way for a while now. Journalists in gaming tend to want to be buddy-buddy and they don't want to rock the boat because it could come back to bite them on the ass later. But that's cowardice, plain and simple. It also means they're not doing their job.
