wish Cboat would prove it. Cboat has been wrong so many times i do not understand how anyone can trust him.

why is always juniors, damn.

I was so critical until this past week. It's only comments after comments like this where you realize that there's a good chance they have no idea what they're talking about.

You do understand that CBOAT has had very good track record?

List the number of things he was wrong about and then ask yourself for the things he didn't get right, were they significantly off? You're seeing everything coming about the resolution now, which he's alluded to a while ago.

I do think the BF4 news puts the ONE in a better light. 1080p is clearly something that developers are having issues with on all platforms , and it's looking like the cause is having to meet the release date - not the hardware.

But still. Comparing the reactions to the two bits of information does not help the "GAF is a Sony hivemind" stereotype. (Though who knows, maybe once that info gets its' own thread - we'll see some more insanity).

Tonight has been fun though. I haven't seen GAF this crazy since I accidentally convinced them a guy with his face wrapped in bandages was computer-generated.

How did you arrive at this conclusion?

I'm glad I'm playing middle of the ground in all of this. Maybe it's time to hold developers to the fire instead of pointing fingers at just the consoles? The 720p stuff opened up a can of thrash of which I've never seen on GAF against the Xbone. Now we know the PS4 is the stronger console yet we're seeing a 900p resolution out of that. Does this mean we need to start looking at developers as well instead of just the console specs itself?

We do. But I get the difficulties of launching a game on 5 platforms, 2 of which are new.

Must be about capturing video footage so I guess Sony is limiting which outlets are able to do it.

Christ. I thought he was going to lose his job again or something. I like Sessler and I'm glad he landed on his feet, but that original tweet sounded like it was another G4 situation. Video capture? Really? Yeah that sucks if there's issues with that, but I thought it was something more dire than that.

Or that they have a larger following of XBO fans but all multiplats are limited to Sony devices so they'll 'look' better.

Anyway that is a non issue, seriously. Like crying over spilt milknwhen you have the cow next to you.

What if they aren't allowed to bypass though? Somebody here mentioned legal ramifications.
There is no law regarding this type of situation so the only way this could be the case is if he willfully signed some sort of agreement or the content of his reviews exceeds new fair use standards that Sony is choosing to put forth. In both cases his problem.

On the last Giant Bombcast, weren't they talking about copyright issues and how for some videos going in the future they may not be able to monetize them on YouTube? Could this be a large video game company saying that you can no longer monetize YouTube videos with footage of their games? That seems like a more likely way to jeopardize Adam's liveliehood (as he would no longer make money from his videos on YouTube) than not being able to directly capture footage of launch games on one Platform.
Damn. Good point if true. This would most certainly be a reason for Adam to freak out, since they (Rev3) depend so heavily on YouTube.

I just wanted to say something about the whole capture thing. I'm getting an XBO and PS4 at launch and I am planning to start streaming and doing videos because of the built-in support. Well, I assumed both would have that feature at launch, but that's up in the air right now. Sony confirmed that the first update would enable day 1 support, but it seems like that might not be the case for the XBO.

It was mentioned in another thread that everything except Upload Studio might be delayed. So that means you can only do 5 min videos on Xbox Live. Since this would affect me I did some searching and found this article from a while ago where it sounded like the odds were that the PS4 would have streaming support at launch but XBO might not. I then asked Albert Penello and he said that he didn't know for sure what was happening at this moment with Twitch but it is possible that only viewing would be available at launch, meaning no broadcasting. Now, this is not confirmed, but it does sound it's a work in progress and right now it's leaning towards no, but again, we don't know 100% yet.

Well, this really changed my plans as I was planning on getting Ryse and AC4 on XBO (I'm getting KZ on PS4 and COD on XBO because of my brother), but if streaming isn't going to be available until next year on XBO, then I'm going to get Knack and AC4 for PS4. So, what I'm saying is while it's unfortunate that the PS4 needs a workaround for direct capture -- as far as the consumer goes the PS4 will be the main console for fans to share footage. This to me is an edge for the PS4 as people will be seeing a lot more PS4 footage of games because the 2-3 million people that will own a PS4 can stream (and then take footage from their Twitch account and put it on YouTube), which I think is a big boon for Sony as that's free advertising from fans.

I just wanted to chime in, because I think it's unfair to say people will just be seeing XBO footage of games when everybody with a PS4 can provide footage starting on day 1. I know that doesn't help pre-release, but with sellouts happening I think the days and months following release will matter more.

60 vs 30 is described as a design choice.

Why not be more accepting of games that are not 1080p. Based on what y'all say, if you have a lot going on, on screen, that resolution may be hard to achieve.
My TV is 1080p, I expect any game running on a next-gen console to be rendering at that resolution natively.

On This is only a Test, Jeff Gerstmann insinuated that EA is now favoring basement streamers over companies. I don't know if that is what this big fight is about. Jeff said something about how companies are starting new initiatives to have their own network of video content.

Maybe they will only allow their own team of reporters to monetize video content. I'm sorry for speculating. This is off-topic.

Except there is and has been a bypass for this for going on what 6+ years now

Except that it is illegal.

In your home, nobody gives a fig whether or not you capture video, but if you were potentially in the public eye...I would think a little bit harder about it.

Keep in mind that it might NOT be just Sony you have to worry about...the MPAA might not be happy that there's sites with millions of people watching video captured illegaly.

BTW...do the current strippers work with the new format for HDMI...I thought the one Sony and MS was using was still not cracked?

How have they managed through the whole generation with the PS3?

They used the AV out. There is no AV out on PS4/XB1. HDCP has to be disabled to capture gameplay (or you must strip the HDCP illegally). Thankfully, HDCP will indeed be disabled (but only for gameplay capture) on both systems (PS4 will get that post launch, not sure if XB1 has done so yet).

Hmm, that could be a strong possibility. He does mention its only a handful of his colleagues.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

FINALLY GREEN LIGHT.

Battlefield 4 on PS4 is 900p on PS4. So speculation could be rampant, but this is where they are at now.

Also COD Ghosts has framerate issues to be ironed out by launch. Both machines.

One more bit of information, but working on getting another source for that will be nigh impossible, I have informed Kagari about it.

Apparently, unlike some other GAF members around here, I wasn't living a pipe dream. 900p for BF4 is one of the most predictable things I've seen in a long time. I could've told you this 5 months ago. Anyone closely following news about BF4 on next-gen already knew this.

I've said this many, MANY times: 60fps is a ridiculously hard benchmark to reach. In the case of a high-end game like BF4, even a very high-end PC has trouble maintaining a constant 60fps. So, barring some amazingly good optimization for a multiplatform game by DICE (who is simultaneously developing 5 versions of the game), just use some common sense, and you would know.

In fact, I'm glad it's 900p/60, and not 720p/60 like the very first initial rumor about BF4 on next-gen.

So Sony's doing something that would not allow Sessler/other journalists to monetize PS4 footage? I'm sorry, confused by this.

And I'm sorry but are you new here because you must not have a clue he's been off before but thats the nature of insider leaking the Mods here are pretty damn strict on the kind of evidence needed before they(the Insiders) are approved to say something that could cause a shit storm to ensue.

Anyone who decided to make their living by using footage created by someone else did not think things through. Just because the potential to do that exists doesn't mean there is lasting job security. And you shouldn't cry when that situation changes.

This is how internet and licensing are evolving. Be it Nintendo or Sony or Xbox. Youtube plays a big role in it too and hardly anyone tries to get them to improve their policies.

Too bad Dice, you made the wrong choice, no buy. Should have scaled back some effects.

I don't think it is simple as that.

Most effects don't really dent performance even close to the magnitude in which rendering at a higher resolution does.

By the time they stripped enough away to get it to run at 1080p/60fps people would be on here complaining about low res textures, poor lighting/shadows/no particle effects, etc...

Sounds like 900p will be the compromise a lot of developers will make if they design really graphically intensive games. At least for the launch window.

Im not sure if 1080p is the issue. It's either 720p 60fps or 1080p 30fps. That's the issue in my summation. 900p 60fps could be the solution for both consoles. I just want games that run well with no screen tearing. My Batman Arkham Origins PC experience was ruined by screen tearing on a capable GPU. So thats the true question for us gamers on GAF. Poll that shit. 720p/60fps or 900p/60fps or 1080p/30fps?

re: Sessler. Surely what he's harping on about has to be worse than not being able to show PS4 footage right? For multiplat's can he not just use the X1 or even a PC?
