Infinity Ward confirms: CoD Ghost is 720p on Xbox One, 1080p on PS4

That confirms the Xbone is a weaksauce system then. It boggles the mind on how such a dated looking game can be impossible to reach 1080p 60fps.

Fuck Sake!. Is the Xbone just a 360 in a larger case or something!!. How could they get this so wrong and so far off the mark.

Its funny last gen the 360 was out a good year before the PS3 hit, so Sony had ages to make the system wipe the floor technically and graphically with the 360....yet it failed to do so. This next gen they both come out within days of each other and the ps4 seems to be so far ahead of the Xbone is unbelievable just wft happened!!

Different design philosophies. Sony won this round with a better designed gaming system.

Percentage, how does it work?

125% more pixels.
As much as pixel density and resolution makes a difference, people trying to come up with ways to describe it that make it seem as bad as possible are just fear-mongering or gloating or both.

But I guess that's what this thread is about, isn't it? Carry on.

Its cast iron, easily-relatable proof that its a weaker console. Its about as bad ad it gets for MS, they must be fuming such a high-profile game runs at twice the resolution on the competitions machine.

Any casual will understand this as word gets out.

Everyone already knows that. I'm constantly surprised at how obsessed some people on gaf are about shouting how the PS4 is more powerful than the X1. Everyone already knows that...enough. Considering how the graphics of COD suck at any resolution, the more important factor is that devs had trouble getting the x1 version to even 900p. Either they just ran out of time or the ESRAM is horrible to work with (probably this one). If that is case, I bet Microsoft will have a lot of trouble bringing on indies and that's not good either. Oh well, I will be enjoying some great indie games on my PS4 no matter what.

Going to a fun watching misterxmedia over the couple of weeks... lol

I agree, since this vindicates COBAT it remains to be see what is going on with the rumored snap feature. Oh how I wish I had my Computer Science degree already. :(

Man, Infinity Ward really played this well, IMO.

The rumor hit their game first, but they kept mum on it. Then it hit BF4, and comparison vids came out for that, causing a huge hubbub.

Now they nonchalantly announce that their game is the same on one platform, and better on the other, resolution wise? Slick.

Mind you it all falls apart when you watch both games, but...

I'm not overly obsessed with resolution but this is pretty pathetic given the relative age of the graphics engine. I'm not even sure how much of the blame should fall on the Xbox One hardware either.

Edited cuz i'm an idiot.

To me this is just some big soap opera. As The World Turns, minute by minute, day by day, new juicy gossip is sprinkled all around. Exciting and sad stuff, the cast are tweets, posters, and news outlets. What a emotional roller coaster, the drama.

It is hilarious that Xbone can't run COD in 1080p.
Microsoft really dropped the ball
Doubt this is an issue of specs, more on the dev.

Ryse looks leagues better and is running at 900p, and Forza 5 is 1080p native. A lot of devs are finding the ESRAM complicated at launch, but they'll iron out the kinks as we go forward.

Will Digital Foundry do a Wii-U vs Xbox One head to head?

I know this is a joke post but in all seriousness... the Xbone version shouldn't even be compared to the PS4 and PC versions. It really should be compared to the current gen consoles.

Wii U is pretty close in cost to the PS4.

And lets not pretend like this is the archetypal Xbox One game. Forza is 1080p and Ryse looks perfectly next-gen.

I think looking at the game, its hard to blame this entirely on the hardware.

Explain to me why a 1 vs 1 exclusive fighter is 720p.

Ryse and Forza both look great. Ryse though is 30 fps. Forza is using last gen rendering techniques (though with great IQ and looking marvelous for it).

COD may look shit but it's using deferred rendering and a few other next gen tricks. I mean, it's using them to poor end results, but we're not talking aesthetics, we're talking tech.

there are clearly some issues keeping games using deferred lighting and other advanced techniques from hitting high resolutions. you have to hope they are SDK issues. but the people who told us about them in the first place said they were hardware issues.

that the resolutions are coming in as rumoured, lends weight to the notion that the Xbone struggles in certain ways.

NB: it is still outputting much better results than 360, even just looking at it in terms of framerate and resolution. BF4 is slightly higher resolution and double the framerate on Xbox One than BF3. COD: Ghosts is higher resolution and the same framerate.

but every game we know to be using deferred rendering, is sub 1080p. every game that is 60fps and using deferred rendering that we know of is 720p. NBA 2K14 might be an exception to that, but I don't think we know if it's using deferred rendering.

there is more going on here than a lazy port. just the same as with Battlefield 4. just the same as with Ryse not being 1080p.

PS4. every exclusive is 1080p and greater than 30 fps (though Killzone spends more time near 30 than 60, it still runs higher than 30. Same I believe with Knack).
Xbone. one exclusive is 1080p and 60 fps. one 720p and 60fps. one 900p and 30fps.

keep your head in the sand if you want, but that's what you're doing.

Xbox One games look next gen. the exclusives look great. But when it comes to resolution? The PS4 has it handily beaten. The difference isn't the sort of thing to make many people change their pre-orders... but it's the hardware causing these gaps in image quality and resolution.

If BF4, a MUCH more graphically intensive game can run at 900p then that should be the minimum bar IW should be hitting with Ghosts.
BF4 is 720p on Xbone.

Props to Rubin for this. Developers should rely on the quality of their product to achieve sales and not on deception. That being said, I'm sure the game will be fun on both platforms and the pixel counters are happy to know where they can go. Win / Win!

Hits... they keep on coming... poor MS can't catch a break. This is worrying... because the game doesn't look impressive at all and yet... the XB1 can only hit 720p, doesn't bode well for it's future.

Yep. I guess PS4 and Xbone are significantly more powerful than high end PCs because NBA 2K14 on Next gen looks a lot better than the PC version. One game determines the power of a platform obviously.
