New Ryse: Son of Rome combat vidoc and singleplayer footage

Now, I hoe this sells well since Ryse 2 could be something special if they start to go RPG deep into it. The limit to sword and shield is a little annoying but I keep hoping they flesh it out as things progress, especially the MP modes.

Vastly improved from that early footage. The lack of the big buttons for executions is a welcome change.

It does look stunning, and as they still have pre-orders available here in Australia for release day Xbox One I'm sort of tempted. Though the wife's already going off at me for my PS4 pre-order. Not sure if I'll still be married if I get a One as well.

I just fear it's this generations Sword of Sodan. Any 80's gamers will know what I mean. It was the game you'd load up on your Amiga when a friend came around. They'd go "WOW!, I wish my (insert 80's system here) could do that!" As soon as they left it would go back in a drawer. It looked amazing at the time, but had boring repetitive gameplay.

thanx. Goddamn, game does look Great. Really clean too.
If some 900P games have this Image quality than i can certainly live with it.

I've been impressed watching those on my PC.

But just now I put them on a USB stick and played them on the TV I'll be using for next-gen consoles.

Wow.

If Ryse turns into the equivalant of a side scrolling arcade action game looking as beautiful as it does... I'm... ok with this!

Looks superb, like holy shit kinda good, and they can't get BF4 to run at 1080p or 900 and 60hz? Little puzzled.

Won't even mention Ghosts. I want my FPS to look like this NOWWWW!

Just had to get that out of the system.

Game looks super amazing, in my opinion it's shaping up to be the best looking game on next gen consoles so far . Animations have been improved. People who are saying that the animation in this game is stiff are delusional. Combat looks ok but it has potential (need to play it to judge).

Wow, just finished watching the high quality, high bitrate videos. Without a doubt the best graphics I've seen so far on next gen systems. And the game really is as clean as all the footage has been making it look.

This is a really nice upgrade over what the game looked like at E3, which was already quite impressive as is.

It is kinda ridiculous how much better this looks than Ghosts. Just shows how much difference focusing on a single platform can make.

That and Crytek are graphics wizards.

Man, I'm actually really surprised you feel that way.

I'm watching the latest vidoc now and I don't see anyone going down without an execution with the icon above their head, I have heard previously that it was the case, that's why that preview through me off. I believe you guys, I just wanted to point that out just in case.

EDIT: He actually just said in the vidoc that enemies can be defeated with normal attacks, sorry for posting that article guys I was misinformed.

Not your fault. The person writing the article just seems to have gotten it wrong.

Man, I'm actually really surprised you feel that way.

What can I say, game looks incredible.

BF4 has 64 player multiplayer with tanks, jeeps, atw, jets, helicopters, ships, bikes... on HUGE maps happening at the same time.

This game has 4 types of enemies (sword, sword and shield, two swords and large clubs). The only other difference is how much damage they can take. I have never seen more than 5 or 6 enemies interacting with the player in small areas.

Reason enough or do you want me to provide more reasons.

The game looks stunning but the gameplay look repetitive like nothing I have ever seen before from a major studio.

This must have been mentioned in previous pages but the single frame transition shield block animation that was being discussed in previous footage is underlined here as by design (in the name of responsiveness.). It's almost like the devs read that on Neogaf and addressed and underlined "single frame".

I'm still not a fan of that single frame transition to otherwise very fluidly animated fight sequences.

The hit response of enemies also transition in a single frame, I think it also makes their life easier to allow joining certain attacks.

I'm hoping for a future hack and slash game that utilizes realtime phyiscs based response to attacks (then the attacks would also have to be physics based.) I wonder if that is doable at all (as a playable and enjoyable game)

And this?

Perhaps not to that degree of sliding, but yeah, pretty much every game ever does that too.

Yep, and the funniest part about that is it only happens because the player triggered an execution near the wall, and for the execution animation that follows to complete properly and not look awkward, the player's positioning had to be adjusted.

Otherwise he would have walked clean through the wall, and executed the guy while standing in mid-air lol.

Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers

When I sat down at the Ryse: Son of Rome station, I was a fairly blank slate when it came to knowledge of the title. I knew it was developed by the talented team at Crytek, and I knew it was gorgeous based on the videos I had seen at conventions, so I was prepared to be impressed. What I didn’t expect was a desire to get up and leave the demo about ten minutes in. I stuck it out in hopes that it would prove itself a deeper experience over time, but its only success was ensuring my wallet will be $60 heavier when the Xbox One launches.

So you mean to tell me that a game can not exist, game such as BF4 with so much happening and such vast area and look like this? Even if a major studio spends shit load of hours optimizing the game and whatever else, the horse power of the "next gen" is not capable?

Loved it. Day one for sure. I just don't understand all the negativity. People trying to hard to find something wrong. Look at the elbow, look at the animations. Like am supposed to pause every frame when I play this game . people forget that things in motion are not the same as not. I can also find some fucked up things in every game, lucky am not possessed by those things cuz I know in my mind its just a game , not real life. And every game has its flaws.

A game is built for enjoyment.

while I enjoy every game, you guys keep looking for flaws.

I wish they would stop saying "protip". Looks good though from a graphics standpoint.

edit - oops wrong thread. Thought i was in the livestream thread.

No, he's saying that you can't use Ryse as an argument for such a game existing because Ryse does far less on screen. It's like saying that your sports car has great acceleration so why doesn't a pickup truck full of dirt.

God damn, those facial expressions are really awesome.

Edit: Just saw the uncompressed vids. To me this game looks like a lot of fun, but I guess I can imagine why some people would find it really boring, since it looks quite repetitive.

This seems quite strange, but I am actually already looking forward to a Sequel, because I believe that Crytek will be able to massively improve the game.

But if You attack that enemy with normal attack he will also die, just not in a pretty way like in execution.
Executions are not shortcuts, they are prettier finishers with some benefits. You can end enemy with one normal hit or by pressing execution button.

Awesome shot, dat Marius expression.

Holy shit. Played those on my TV, and damn!

I can't even see how much more improved things can get, I mean, they have outstanding graphics with a ton of characters on screen, on some relatively sizable environments that are full of physics going on...

No i don´t believe it will. DICE is certainly not a small studio an just as capable of producing these kind of visuals.

And horse power you know we are talking about 1.3TF of power in the Xbox and thats without reducing it by the 10% reserved (real number is something like 1.17 as it is now) and 1.8 for PS4. They are certainly no monsters.

I'm not looking for flaws. I see a game that looks unenjoyable to play. I then work backwards to figure out what's wrong with the individual elements that made me come to that conclusion. I see boring (near brain-dead) looking combat, poor player-character movement options, janky animations, and repetitive gameplay. Those are significant flaws to me.

I'm glad you can enjoy it; I always enjoy dumb haters-going-to-hate posts, as if that's the way functioning human beings work (clearly it does in your case).

This stream!! Shit I want this game! The lighting is fantastic. You can tell that even from the quality of the stream. I'm definitely going to have a lot of fun with this. Combat looks great, and I love the presentation.

Also, I noticed that they picked the second out of 4 different difficulty levels. It's good to know that there's a solid number of diffuclity level. Saw a pretty sick looking execution that I 've never seen before. The one where he does the combat roll to get behind the enemy.

Confirmation of boss battles! :D

Nice, E3 level actually looks much improved.

The upgrade system looks nice. You get to choose between all kinds of single or double executions, and that burning eagle mode is cool. Hadn't heard much about that till today. It seems to put a premium on getting the timing just right. Fire effects and the debris from things being hit by flaming boulders seems improved over E3.

It's crazy how much opinions are differing on this game.

Here we are thinking it looks awesome. Whereas the people on the other thread are completely bored.

Looks amazing!

I'm a bit dissapointed though by the apparent low difficulty of the game that so many is reporting. Still looks very nice though!

There are 4 difficulty levels that I could see. The guys playing chose the second difficulty level from what I could see. There are 2 more harder levels than what these guys are playing currently.

They said they chose this difficulty, because people don't want to see him dying left and right.

It's not difficult to see. If you have little or no interest at all in the game, nothing is going to change your mind. However, for those genuinely looking forward to playing it, and who are actually buying an Xbox One, this game looks like a great game to pick up at launch alongside Dead Rising 3 and Forza, and anything else that catches your fancy.

:/ one can only hope

They use the same models for LODs in gameplay and in cut scenes. Also they jsut said on the stream that none of their cut scenes are pre rendered.

Does it really matter if cutscenes have higher quality effects? Graphics are not one of Ryse's problems. It looks ace visually to me.
