I powered through the first episode.

It's the creation of someone that can animate elaborate fight scenes and has TV Tropes bookmarked. "I'll pick this trope and this trope aaaaand... THIS TROPE!" Did Marty Oum write the story when Newgrounds was the new hotness? It certainly feels like it.

I don't know if I outgrew Rooster Teeth or what, but I feel like the quality of their content has dropped. I don't find anything they do entertaining anymore.

Rooster Teeth sold the fuck out a looooooong time ago

I've met Burnie on several occasions, and from the conversations we've had he's always seemed like he's far more interested in views and likes and all that other bullshit over the actual quality of RT's content.

Rooster Teeth is great. I love their Let's Plays, Achievement Hunter videos, and of course Rage Quit. Not a big fan of their other content though, I lost interest in RvB around the time Halo 2 came out. I tried a bit of RWBY and I don't think you could make something more generic if you tried. Hey it's cute anime girls with big weapons in a modern/scifi setting and prophecies and stylish bad guys... BLAH.

Just finished watching the last episode now. Due to how the time per episode varies, the pacing can be a bit frenetic.

The fight scenes are few but are definitely the highlight as that's when things get kicked into overdrive. It's interesting that they tried to include a bunch of story elements which I wasn't expecting based on the preview character trailers. I think the show could have benefited from having a fixed time limit for each episode but since that isn't the case I'm assuming they weren't able to plan them that way for some reason.

I've been a fan of Monty Oum for a long time so it's great to see him finally being able to put his ideas into practice. Despite whatever quality issues the show has, I'm sure he's working to improve for the next project. From reading some entries on his website it seems that he's pretty much working all the time. I'm a little jealous of his drive/tenacity as that is something I'd like to instill in myself.

I see now why there's so much fanart for this show. That post about the Japanese reaction to the show gives some needed context.

I like Achievement Hunter, but I honestly go to RT for their podcasts. (The Rooster Teeth Podcast, the Patch, and they are sporadically doing "spoilercasts" for various movies and shows where they can discuss the topic in depth without worrying about spoiling it for someone.)

Disagree Veelk, I've watched the entire thing from beginning to end. To be honest, I enjoy this a hell of a lot more than Legend of Korra.

Outside of ol' bully (which is a given), there's not a single character that I outright despise. Even Weiss has grown on me, despite me thinking she was a massive bitch.

I agree the pacing and multiple plotlines could be done way better, but considering what they were working with, it's a bit understandable. Had they been working with a professional animation crew THEN that shit would've been inexcusably bad.

The animation is pretty nice, but holy fuck when they are running it looks atrociously bad.

Fight scenes/choreography is jaw dropping. Episode 16, holy shiiiiiiit. Give Monty an even bigger budget and he can do some amazing things.

Overall, though, I do enjoy the series, mainly because Monty somehow got me to like them or at the very least tolerate them early on. So, I don't really agree with others complaints about the characters

Rooster Teeth is Podcasts and Achievement Hunter for me. RWBY really didn't appeal, but luckily they have more than enough content to keep me happy elsewhere.

I'm gonna give this a try eventually, but I do still like Red vs Blue. It may have lost the aimless humor of the first 5 seasons, but I feel like it was just a matter of time before that got old. In the recent seasons, there is still a ton of humor and throwbacks to the first couple of seasons, but it also has a relatively simple story to keep things moving, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I saw maybe 2-3 episodes of this, and it was absolutely awful. The art style is nice, but the animation was absolutely terrible, writing is awful, voice acting is awful, the story is awful, the fight scenes were awful, and the attempt at being cutesy and funny 'anime/moe' style or whatever the hell they tried to was extremely annoying and awful.

Been a Red vs Blue fan since day 1 and I had 0 interest in this.

Just keep making RvB please RoosterTeeth.

They are still making RvB, Season 11 has been running alongside RWBY.

Going into this, I was rather excited about an original action show from Rooster Teeth (since they've pretty much been doing machinima otherwise). First episode was a great start by setting up a mythology and having an action scene during a robbery. Afterwards, while I did notice the anime inspiration for the art, I wasn't expecting as many anime tropes as it has. The pace slowed to a crawl from episode to episode, and things didn't really pick up until they got launched into the woods. I'll also agree that Jaune has gotten too much focus for someone who isn't a main character. I'd like to see more episodes and this series get better, but at this point I'm going to have to make it my 3rd favorite RT series behind The Strangerhood and Red vs Blue.

So is there nothing worthwhile to watch outside of episode 8? That fight was pretty neat from a logistics standpoint of getting all the characters involved, but the actual fight wasn't that great.

The next big fight scene is in episode
16
.

I really appreciate what Monty Oum is trying to do here. I imagine this was a bit of a new experience for him since all his previous work has just focused on action/choreography. And that shows when the best parts of the show are the action scenes that he no doubt spent a lot of time working on. I fully expect things to not be perfect, in that sense I am pretty forgiving and I realize not everyone is going to approach the show from the same perspective.

I agree wholeheartedly. Summed it up quite nicely, might I add.

You have to start from somewhere. You're bound to make mistakes now and again, and learn to improve from the experience. It is a first for Monty to break into new territory for him, so can you really be upset over inherent flaws made by a rookie in piecing together a creative tale in an entirely different world? He's seasoned with battle choreography and a loosely applied, non-verbal storyline, so I didn't let my expectations get my better judgment.

Either way, I'm with the minority on this one. I enjoyed it as I kept my suspension of disbelief at the door and gave the series a chance with an open mind. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely! But I'm not going to condemn a hardworking individual who loves what he enjoys to do for a living.

Pretty late to the (pooped) party, here.

I noticed RWBY on Crunchyroll, watched the whole thing in a sitting, and thought it was pretty damn cool. It feels like - with a little more time and/or talent - the sometimes-clunky animation would've been smoothed out, since generally it's well done. I'm not sure what to make of the claims that the show is generic. Especially considering that it's a smaller project, it's a whole hell of a lot more interesting (especially visually) than most of the regurgitated stuff out there. The story isn't super inspired or revelatory, but the characters are interesting and fun enough, the dialogue witty enough, and the voice work solid (and even really well done) enough that I can say I'd certainly like to see another round of this show. Though what I really want is to be playing this show like an RPG; I agree with people saying it feels like watching game cutscenes. It also doesn't hurt that the OP and song are awesome.

This sums up my feelings on the show pretty well. I really enjoyed it, and thought the characters were great and their interactions were charming.
The voice acting may not be the best, but I thought they did an amazing job for being amateurs. I believe they just got people from the production to voice characters.

When a friend showed me the Red trailer, my first thought was a video game, and it looked like a lot of fun, haha. I'd love to see a video game of RWBY.

and yeah, I love the main theme.
