Rip retail. Amazon beginning Sunday delivery (starting in LA/NY)

Throw my package if old.

Amazon has announced a partnership with the US Postal Service that will see the retailer deliver packages on Sundays from now on. The program is rolling out first to Prime members in the New York and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, but the company plans to extend it to cities including Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, and Phoenix in 2014.

Finally I can buy Nintendo games off amazon as well as other stuff.

And I can't be the only one that always seem to want to shop on Fridays and curse at the estimate delivery.

I am in Ohio and it started yesterday (Sunday).

I saw the USPS carrier come down my road and I thought: "... are they really delivering Killzone on a Sunday?"
They sure were!

Amazon is not charging extra for the new service, so members of the company's popular Prime service will be able to buy products on Friday and get them by Sunday for free.

Noticing a distinct lack of Seattle. What gives, Amazon? Can't even hook the home team up? I see how it is.

Through the postal service? Doesn't Amazon usually go through UPS, or is that only for big items?

Here in Japan I've actually missed a Sunday morning delivery from Amazon and had the postal service redeliver it within a 2 hour window of my choosing later the same day, all for free. Do try and keep up, rest of the world!

I imagine this has less to do with Amazon and more to do with USPS. They always pilot other programs in Seattle.

Amazon Prime while living in Tokyo was fucking nuts. Being able to order something in the morning and get it the same afternoon, or later that evening if you miss the first attempt.

I was game until they said partnered with the postal service. Here where I live in NY I get TERRIBLE service from them. It is like they ring my bell and run. They fuckers start writing up their could not delivery notices within seconds of you not immediately responding.

This is going to be a killer.

Whatever happened to Amazon offering same day delivery?, I think LA was a big target for that.

Wonder how this deal works for them. Keeping the whole usps open seems pretty friggen costly, even if its just in a few states.

Flipkart in India is doing this since day 1. I order games on Saturday afternoon (impulse buys) and they are delivered on Sunday morning. Enjoy guys.

Gone are the days when I order stuff on Fridays and realize they won't see my door step till Tuesday.

Based AMAZON.

Wow I'm shocked considering I was under the impression that the postal service was going to move to fewer days delivering. Or is that for mail only? Either way this is cool.

Love Amazon so much.... I've ordered stuff in the very early AM and gotten it in the afternoon. Can't wait until this hits Chicago.

Only small media like letters, flyers, etc. etc. reducing mail days would hardly solve the postal service's problems, regardless.

This...this is amazing! Granted, it'll be a while before it gets to my area probably but fantastic news nonetheless.

That won't happen on a national level until they get Congress to force every online store to start charging sales tax. That'll allow them to set up distribution centers in more places without being at a price disadvantage to other sites (because you have to charge tax for every state where you have one).
