Killzone Shadow Fall Review Thread

First Cod is better on X1, even with FPS drops + 720p

Killzone is rated completely rubbish and out of contrast to every other review site, by a large fraction.

and WTF is this:

Are there any reviews here that spend any reasonable percentage of their review evaluating the multiplayer? They all seem to be totally preoccupied with the single player.

Saying "Hey, this FPS has an uncompelling single player campaign!" ranks somewhere on the Surprising-Revelation-Meter near "Hey, this pizza has cheese!"

In a year defined by really boring games like Tomb Raider, Ni No Kuni, God of War Ascension, Bioshock, Saints Row, Killzone Mercenary and Batman Blackgate (3ds/vita game) that's really saying something.

I think it's saying he needs to remember what came out this year.

Should probably be noted that "Jeff Killzone Shadow Fall looks like one of the most boring games of the year." is from an anonymous question asker and Jeff answered with: "I’m still working my way through the campaign and need to see some proper online multiplayer, but I’m definitely not loving it so far."

As expected...nit picking and cutting points for stupid things that all other major franchises get away with... the worst part of this industry is that these so called jurnos are some of the biggest fanboys of one console or another and they show their bias in their reviews. What a shame!

What? The guy that got fired from Gamspot for giving an honest review? The guy that hasn't even posted a review yet of KZ Shadow Fall because they haven't had time to properly review the game? Gertsman is pretty trustworthy IMO. I don't care about Gies. Yeah, his Last of Us review was kind of suspect, but the guy has a right to an opinion even if you don't agree with it. His Sim City review is the reason I don't pay attention to him.

He's far from honest. He plays the gaming politics thing to the fullest. He wants to be the decider of what's trendy while wearing a $10 outfit from walmart. I said divisive, he certainly pisses a lot of people off, and for good reason imo.

GAF hates Polygon yet is clearly obsessed with them. If I charged an outlet with these sort of accusations, they'd be completely off my radar. But, nope, Polygon has been at the center of conversation here for 2 consecutive days. Doesn't add up.

If Ryse is as poorly made as some suggest, then why would it deserve a higher score?

I'm saying it deserves to be assessed independent of what unrelated games are scored at. Hence why I said "Different, unrelated games can receive different scores? Scandalous" in response to someone upset at the idea of an action game potentially being rated higher than a first-person shooter.

DId anyone watch the Polygon stream when they started playing KZ:SF? There was no killing for the first five minutes or so, and they were constantly making stupid jokes and talking about how bored they were. "It's KILL ZONE, WHERE'S THE KILLING!?" I mean, my goodness, the intro was playing for about two minutes and Chris Plante was constantly like "YOU CAN'T SKIP IT?! THIS IS SO BORING!!!!!"

It was the most embarrassing thing I've seen in awhile. CONSTANT jokes about the game. And you know how people say you shouldn't judge to reviews written by different reviewers on the same site? Well, it must be a huge coincidence that all of the Polygon people that were talking about it acted just as apathetic towards it as Gies.

That kind of cynicism and pessimism is just downright awful, why does it seem to manifest its self all the time among so many media outlets? And I haven't played the game yet, but anytime someone says a game is slow or boring. I just immediately assume they are either 12 or have ADD. It always irks me seeing something trying to establish a sense of pacing, only for it to get discounted because "lol where's the killing, so boring."

1. Gies is a complete dill weed. However, since the game's overall reception is not great, that is a strange thing on which to focus.

2. Reviews and scores are useful tools. Deciding on whether to buy a game based "on a number" is perfectly reasonable. Highly scored games tend[/t] to be more well liked by the core crowd and vice versa.

3. The game's reception is disappointing. This isn't because of widespread bias. It's probably because GG were rushed and also attempted a different style of gameplay from what they were used to and failed to pull it off. You should have been prepared for this.

Personally I am a huge huge fan of KZ2's campaign, and thought KZ3 was reasonable, so this is disappointing... but I'm not going to live in denial about SF most likely being a dud in the single-player department.

Can some gaffer who's gone through the reviews answer this - how is the multiplayer?
I bought KZ2 but didn't touch the SP. I bought SF through Target's B2G1 but I'm wondering if I should keep it if the MP's not good

Yeah... so why did Gies review KILLZONE: Shadow Fall again????

Some games must prove they don't suck, others need to prove they do suck. As someone getting pretty tired of the shooter domination, I don't necessarily disagree with many of the critiques I'm seeing. I just find it interesting that most of those critiques can be applied to the entire genre. I'd like to see some head to head reviews.

Killzone: Shadow Fall could disappoint fussier gamers with a few irritating platforming sequences throughout the game, or maybe its sometimes silly enemy AI, but these moments of imperfections never tarnish the experience as a whole. An incredible campaign is complemented by an improved multiplayer component, all infused with beautiful next-gen visuals. If you’re looking for a day one purchase that shouldn’t be missed, Shadow Fall is looking back at you. (Killzone: Shadow Fall, PS4) 9.5/10

And stuff like this is ignored or forgotten. This is definitely going to be a game people need to play for themselves to judge properly.

Wow that's pretty bad...

I will reserve judgement though. KZ games are a hit or miss

We really need to stop talking about Polygon, they aren't the only site that gave the game an average/bad review, and they're certainly getting more attention that they deserve.

I wouldn't be surprised if Giant Bomb slaps a 2/5 on the game.

GB will give it a 3 or 4.

It's sad how unprofessional and worthless Polygon is. I'm not even saying that because of this one review. Look at their past reviews for arguably excellent Sony 1st Party games and the big multiplatform games. Look at the behaviors that people in this thread witnessed from the stream of Killzone SF. That website is a joke and of their staff is a joke. I'd trust ******** more than Polygon at this point, lol.

Anybody want to list the most divisive game reviewers of all time? I would nominate Jeff Gertsmann onto the list, and I see Gies would get some nominations. Really, don't give these guys (and I'm being nice) the power. They don't deserve it and you'd be doing yourself a disservice.

Gertsmann and actually GT reviews seem to be most accurate. EDGE is third in line but pretty hit and miss.

I was watching it, and it wasn't that bad. They were actually being kinder to it than I expected after seeing their review. Game looks really nice imo, can't wait for it.

I'm saying it deserves to be assessed independent of what unrelated games are scored at.

That's precisely what a scale is; a universal way to project a games quality from 1-10. You could argue that a 7 on one site means something else on another, but if you're comparing two different games on the same site, you should absolutely try to follow some guidelines.

I really want to be excited for this game, buy it and use it to show off my shiny new hardware (when it arrives) but I have never liked Killzone and the reviews, while not bad, just don't make me want to buy this game...

To be honest, I think Ryse will be reviewed just as harshly. However, if I was getting a Xbone I would still probably get it. Its the system showcase. Pretty much all the reviews have praised the visuals in KZ but it hasn't got a pass on that aspect. I don't think Ryse will either. Which is a bit of a pity, because I think visuals should count for something.

I'm totally ok with the reviews. I'm not expecting a great game but a good one, which Killzone has always been for me. I have no interest in military shooters so this is one of the few launch games that appeals to me.

Tbh, I've ignored reviews for years. I trust gamers that I know and that's about it. I've had people telling me Killzone sucked since the first game.

People need to put or shut up. Let's settle this, please. Someone compile the numbers. Show us where the bias lies. Support your thesis with NUMBERS. Do they really grade Sony exclusives more harshly? Where is the proof?

I can't say I'm surprised with the scores, the series has always been forgettable.

This is bullshit piling on. The series may be forgettable, in your opinion, but the last 2 console games did get a great and good reception respectively. So these scores *are* somewhat surprising and disappointing. Don't be a dill weed.

Is Gies and his 5/10 the 2013 edition of Jeff Gerstmann giving Twilight Princess a 8.8??

No, because

- 8.8 is a high score.
- The game received an overwhelmingly positive reception.
