I feel like I am the only who enjoyed the dungeons in P3/4. I only really care about the battles, characters, etc, so not having puzzles, forced exploration and stuff getting in my way was a bless. Plus, the dungeons were great visually (and the music themes were amazing). I really am hoping P5's dungeons are in the same style.

I didn't mind them, but I get what people are asking for.

Thing is, just keep 'em brief. I think what makes these games so incredibly addicting that you're willing to spend 80+ hours with them is the pacing. You're never doing one thing for so long and all activities help each other out. Social linking gets you better persona to use which helps to get you through dungeons faster, which helps you to get back to social linking. It's a good feedback loop and you always feel like you're progressing.

Also, as per turnip-kun's decree, here's exclusive footage of the hot spring scene in P5:

I liked Tartarus because it had a number of rather cool random elements and it was self-sufficient in a Rogue-like way. They may have improved the aesthetics of the dungeons in P4, but the removal of such elements was a huge step back in gameplay.

I do wish they would give more incentives and fewer penalties for going into dungeons frequently. My NG+ playthroughs hardly ever spend more than 10-15 hours actually inside dungeons and that makes it kind of dull unless I try some silly self-imposed challenge.

That and I need more mileage out of the swimsuits costumes. With much higher polycounts, the fanservice was completely ruined by those reedy, pointy excuses for bodies. > __ >

Dungeoneering in Persona is so bizarre. It's the ultimate in two steps forward, one step back with each and every installment.

What elements are you referring to?

Probably referring to the random 'events' that happen on a floor in Tartarus occasionally. Like, a floor with tons of Golden Hands, but the Reaper comes onto the floor in like thirty seconds, or a pitch black floor with no map, etc.

There were many random events called Anomalies that could occure in Tartarus, and each release of Persona 3 added more than the last one. It was a pretty awesome roguelike mechanic, and I was hoping they'd expand on that.

Tartarus also has a much better random level generator. While each dungeon in Persona 4 is unique in how the random levels are generated, there are few combinations and layouts get extremely predictable.

Fuck the pitch black floor "event"
Worst thing ever.

Let the town to be full-fledged dungeon already.

I want a fully realized town, or at the very least with as many locations as Persona 2. Persona 3 I can kinda understand, but no excuse for Persona 4 (vanilla) not having as many locations to check out, especially given the setting.

PS4 trophy rarity stats are interesting. 21.7% of people who have played Persona 4 Golden did not
save Yukiko
(real early P4G spoilers).

Actually, it makes more sense in P4 than it does in P3. P4 was in a rural setting, at the very least. It makes sense that there weren't a ton of locations to go visit.

That being said, Inaba is one of the most fully realized towns I've ever had the pleasure of seeing in a game. I understand the desire to have a fully explorable town, and they could certainly pull it off, but I'd hope they'd keep it small enough so that everything is memorable and recognizable.

Not that surprising, considering how low game completion rates are and how slow P4 starts.

Yeah. 11.7% drop off rate from Awakening to first rescue.

Only 23.2% of people finished the game via the True Ending.

P4G's somewhat of a special case for looking at this, though. If P5's a PS3/Vita/PS4 game, it'll be cool to see certain stats associated with its trophies.

It's still surreal to see how dramatically things changed between EP and 3. Do we have any idea when they actually started the project?

No idea, although Buddha was the first one to point out to me that the enemies in the concept screenshots of the battle system are Demons, not Shadows.... And of course, tarot cards being used.

It was realized only through the plot. By the time I hit the halfway point, I was already bored with the lack of locations and secrets to discover. Golden remedied that somewhat...

Funny story, since I finished P4 I kept hounding my friends to either get a vita and play it, or borrow mine, most of the just looked at me like I was an insane weeb
which is ridiculously unfair since out of my friend group I was always the one that was like "jrpgs...ewwwww," before I played P4G, and they all were fans of Squenix games,
anyway, my friend actually bought a Vita and P4G not too long ago and he
beat Shadow Yukiko
but that is literally the only thing he did, he stopped playing after that...I keep trying to tell him to pick it back up, but tis to no avail :(

I'm kinda... conflicted on the series' dungeon designs going forward. On one hand, I'd love to explore well thought-out, handcrafted dungeons, but I also like the uncertainty of P3/4's randomized floors. =/

Never noticed Anzu and what looks like Succubus there. Huh. Thought Anzu was one of the hawk shadows at first.

I'm still wondering if and how the shadows are going to be incorporated into P5. Persona 4 Arena and maybe Ultimax spoilers:
If they're incorporated into P5. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're either going to be extremely important or removed altogether, with no in-between.

Also 7 days, 5 hours and 44 minutes to go!

I totally understand that, I just don't think it bothered me at all. Might bother me in a second go around though. I just don't know if Persona is that kind of game, but hey, as I've said before: I'm down for literally anything. Just keep the pace, synergy of gameplay mechanics, and stellar writing and I'm happy.

Next persona will be set in prisons. The boxes represent the feeling of being boxed in a prison cell. The city represents all the cities you are being transferred to. Each prison will have it's own dungeon attached to it. You create social links with other prisoners and even the warden! There will still be studying like past persona game, you are enrolled in free education within the prison. Clubs will now be replaced with prison activities, such as working, bribing police to smuggle items in, knitting, and license plate manufacturing.

that's my birthday. Please Atlus/Sega please

Girlfriend is still trucking along in p4g. She just successfully guessed the killer, but her reasoning and motive theories are off so I think I talked her away from her guess.

She's just after the second dungeon.
Kanji's. Teddie just appeared in human form. She love's him.
Edit: actually she's just past Rise's dungeon, which is obvious if teddie's out and about, but she never mentioned Rise and how she's the best and I'm beet disappointed in her. Filling out divorce papers now.

Out of curiosity, what is her reasoning?

Teddie's animal magnetism strikes again.

she thinks he's murdering people to pin them on someone, solve the case and be a hero and rub it in Dojima's face for always being an ass to him and stuff.

Major Persona 3 spoilers in fan art form.

Love the little details, they even have gold AND blue butterflies.

That's amazing. Though I had to strain my eyes to see that both MC and FeMC were lying there.

On a topic that's come and gone, how would people feel about conversations in P5 taking place like Valkyria Chronicles (1) cutscenes? Full animation of the face but only that with some full body animations. As much as I'd love to see P5 be like Catherine in terms of presentation, I don't think they could pull that off without sacrificing other stuff.

VC1 face scenes are even worse than Persona's portrait scenes lol. At least in Persona you get their full bodies + a background. Ideally they should aim for what Tales of Xillia or Xenoblade did. Standard, full animation scenes combined with cutscenes with limited animation but with a closer camera angle and full character models and background (Xillia and Xenoblade don't have portraits, save for skits in Xillia, but P5 can opt to have portraits for the limited animation scenes). Oh and in Xillia's case, with some anime scenes every now and then.
