Dead Rising 3 Review Thread

Backers could be advertising partner. If so, advertising partner and outright giving the company $750k are quite different.

Could be. Do you know? I don't. The point is, nobody knows except Polygon/Vox top brass & sales how much they get from individual sponsors and backers and ad buyers and where. If they got money from MS for their documentary, if they got money from Sony to build the site - any site worth its salt will have barriers between editorial and advertising for this exact reason, so that no matter who they get money from it won't influence editorial.

Glad to see it's being well received. Disappointed with the frame rate issues, but the game sounds fun as hell. Will be one of the first things I get whenever I end up getting an Xbone.

So is nightmare mode available from the beginning? I've read some of the reviews, but I didn't happen to see if it has to be unlocked or not.

That's the way I want to play the game from the get go. The time constraints and Groundhog Day element is a huge part of what endears the series to me.

^Ooh, good to know. Sounds like it it'll be pretty great all around then.

Can't wait to play this. I've been missing DR lately.

This is great, I am really happy that they were able to patch in a fix for the DF frame-rate issue. DR is always fun to play, going to enjoy the hell out of this next year. Hopefully a goty version is available by then.

I think I remember reading that it was available from the start in one of the reviews. Maybe the destructoid one?

Sounds to me that they either would have had to delay the game to a further date for the 30fps, or just release on time with a day 1 patch. I'm glad they made it in for the release.

The rev3 review is pretty rough. Tara's one of the few reviewers I actually trust too

There were a couple things she said that I didn't find to be a big deal.

One, she said the story was serious and not very humorous. That's how it's always been besides boss fights, which still seems to be the case for Dead Rising 3. Makes me wonder if she just forgot what they were like.

Two, yeah it'd be frustrating to be trying to pick up your gun after dropping it in a pile of apples, but that can easily be avoided. You can manually drop weapons. Drop it somewhere where it's not thrown into a bunch of stuff and grab it later. No reason she should've stood around in a boss battle. Just use another weapon.

Not trying to excuse any problems that the game may have. I do feel like the game could've done better with more dev time. Hopefully this isn't the limit and Dead Rising 4 will show crazy improvement. (and hopefully be cross-platform)

That just pisses me off more that DF would even write that article based on a demo build. I mean way to incite all the console warriors with scathing reviews of subpar framerates without even analyzing the finished product.

Just sloppy click-bait journalism.

So can you still knock zombies through the map into the 4th dimension? I was expecting lower scores, dat waiting for cheques to clear embargo.

I specifically questioned them about that when it was released on twitter and they did nothing but ignore me. Which was my first clue that they were def trying to hide that fact from how it seemed.

Agreed. The BF4 stuff was pretty disgusting too. I'm not happy with DF these days.

Yeah, their lack of response was indeed suspect. Glad to see the game won't be as bad as their analysis suggested it would be, hope they do another one and admit they were perhaps too hasty and not as forthcoming with vital information as they otherwise should have been in the first piece.

They didn't say that; cmon. It is even in your quote..through the spring and summer

Drive Club is a launch game that was pushed back, The Show is a annual franchise and The Order has no release date.

Why does Drive Club originally being a launch title and MLB being an annual franchise mean that they aren't important exclusives that are coming this spring/summer? The Show is the only baseball game on the market and always reviews very highly.

You also ignored the second sentence where they talk about Sony having nothing until Holiday 2014.

This is a notoriously precarious period for new consoles, as demonstrated by the software struggles of both the PlayStation Vita and the Wii U in the year following their release, and we're not sure what bridges Sony intends to build between release and holiday 2014.

I would think from a site that is supposed to focus and provide crucial by the numbers data on products, doing so from something that isn't final retail code is just a huge no-no. All it does it cause controversy, confusion, and then after the fact totally makes you looks like you were trying to damage a product before it even released. Very dissappointed in them and if that's how they would prefer to run their site, I'd prefer not to visit it anymore.

I'd surmise it's because a lot of journalists and gamers don't really take sports/racing games into the equation as important exclusives. A lot of people probably saw Dead Rising 3 as the big Xbox launch crown jewel, not Forza.

So Chris Carter aka @DtoidChris just posted this a few minutes ago on his twitter feed.

"I beat Dead Rising 3 twice, and only once did I have any framerate problems for a few seconds -- and it didn't impede my gameplay at all."

Also I asked about in co-op and was told "no noticable difference" Yes, Yes, YES!!!!

Thought for sure this was gonna be in the 50/60 range after that frame rate talk. Surprised they managed to fix it and semi-save the game.

Awesome.

Where the hell did all the framerate issues DF encountered come from?

Awesome.

Where the hell did all the framerate issues DF encountered come from?

They played a build that apparently wasn't the final build. They never claimed it was, but when asked about it on twitter, ect... would never admit it. Why they bothered to do a analysis on code that wasn't final, no freaking clue. I'm leary of those guys after this now if this is their practice and how they are going to do it.

Giant Bomb said the previous times they've seen the game it was a mess and ran like garbage. It's looking like DF had an outdated build.

Glad I'm not missing out on much with KI and Dead Rising 3 now. I'm sure they'll fix both with DLC and Patches for singleplayer etc. But for now I'll just stick with Off the Record on Steam.

I watched the livestream with the guys playing. The game didn't looked bad like that screenshot people keep posting everywhere to mock the XOne.

The game looked fine and ran fine and looked fun. There was a guy in armor with some kind of electric saw and zombies flying in pieces everywhere.
The enviroment looked pretty huge and open too. Looks way better than DR2.

Non final build I guess or possibly they played a build without the day one patch? Who knows.

Why the hell would they analyse an old build?

Considering this and the rubbish they were throwing about earlier in the year, I really don't have much time for DF anymore.

The game's gotten decent reviews overall. Looked fun the first time it was unveiled, and still looks the part as I type. Mindless fun all around, but still a lot of fun to be had, going by the different trailers, which should be applauded.

I took that more as not so much a dig at the lack of humor or the emphasis on the darker pallet/story, but that it wasn't as well executed as the prior games. Same reason why she was really critical of the boss fights. Never the best part of the games, but at least they were somewhat sensible in the context.

It just screamed to me the same exact issue Capcom has been having with all its franchises this past generation.

Edit: Why is there no mention of the Smartglass feature in the reviews? Good to hear about the patch coming in though.

Smartglass for Xbox One isn't available yet. That or they can't talk about it until the Xbox One hardware/OS software embargo is up tomorrow (or today for me... I should go to bed)

I do find it kind of baffling that three entries in the developers haven't realised that the boss battles are shit and they need to be completely changed.

[edit] Also wow some of these guys seem kind of awkwardly offensive.

You don't like Capcom's signature "over-the-top" style that magically makes their franchises better?

Better scores than I expected but I'll still probably wait for it to go on sale, Forza 5, Zelda and Mario should keep me occupied until then.
