Twitch vs Speedrun Community Drama (update: Twitch officially responds)

Evilore would never take a bribe like that and kill discussion here. They would need an infinite moneyhat.

I figured, but it was only a joke. I'm new here, so I wasn't sure if there was anything silly that pertains to Evilore.

I'm still curious as to who owns Twitch though, there has to be someone there with enough common sense to know this just isn't right.

The biggest problem is that this is the kind of personality-based nonsense that shouldn't be happening in a company that is ostensibly going to be the industry standard for the game streaming market. Any time you've grown big enough to be the go-to service for large companies like Microsoft and Sony, you need to be big enough to not go on a rampage for personal reasons, especially when money is involved in the case of channels with large subscriber bases.

I don't suppose we could message our proof to other /r/gaming mods and hope one of them is decent and able to do the right thing?

Twitch (and various other websites) have a no-tolerance policy for racism, sexual harassment, harassment, homophobia, and so on. This doesn't surprise me.

I'm gay and I once made a gay-related joke on the official World of Warcraft forums. Instant permaban. Was it Blizzard's fault? No. I took the risk and I received the consequences.

Terms of Service, guys. Read it.

If you were actioned, suck it up and know that your IP ban isn't permanent. Don't make petitions or anything dramatic like that. You'll just make the problem worse.

Truth.

It may be time for a clearing of the ranks over at Twitch, at least on an admin level. Your product is going to be in the home of MILLIONS, MILLIONS interacting with your product at any given moment. You can't have shit like this anymore. This is, an amusing and bizarre story for the internet, it is PR suicide.

How about reading the thread ?

This is a ridiculous shit storm for a service that just hit the big time with complete integration in the PS4 and soon to be with the Xbox One.

They are in the public eye now, and they should be much more measured with their moderation and public facing dialog.

This seems like one of those stories where everyone is an asshole. I didn't bother finish reading it, but I feel comfortable sticking with my half-baked assumption.

I don't understand why simply not liking an admin there is considered bannable. They post "Remove Horror" and that means jackshit to anyone who doesn't follow the community.

that's another thing to consider, there are no viable alternatives to this site

where would you go?

ustream? livestream? lol

ps that hitbox.tv site is run by some of the same people that ran own3d... before it declared bankruptcy after not paying their streamers for 3 months

Come on, guys. Read Twitch's ToS.

Edit: This thread in and of itself proves that nobody has read the ToS, though.

Why is getting upset over an admin abusing their power a sign of immaturity? Because it's the internet, none of this shit matters, or something like that? I'm sure Horror feels the same way, considering Twitch will do nothing to him, so he can say whatever he wants and ban anyone he wants without consequence for making a joke at his expense.
It's a private internet service. Evilore and the mods here can also ban anyone, at any time, for anything; has someone been banned here before for making an off color joke to a mod? Has a mod here ever performed nepotism? Would you be upset in those circumstances as well?

Look, let me be clear: the mod shouldn't have given his boyfriend an emote, it sucks he did, and the actions afterwards with banning and whatnot are completely out of line. But the initial catalyst for this seems way blown out of proportion.

The internet wouldn't function if people got upset everyone nepotism happened. I think the way this has been handled from both sides is immature. And that includes the off color joke that started the first ban. A permaban is over the line, but maybe he shouldn't have said a shitty joke in the first place.

Edit: and to further clarify: the circling of the wagons and other bullshit Twitch is pulling on Twitter is gross.

Yeah, I was a little worried when I heard that Twitch was getting integrated into the new consoles.

I watched own3d go down in flames, and I knew Twitch wasn't a whole lot better. They've been promising stuff (like European streaming) for years without delivering.

There's a lot of "bubble" to eSports and everything around it. :/ They need to get their act together or Google or someone is going to move in and take over.
