If they didn't care, they wouldn't show up at all. They aren't showing Mario Kart.

If Nintendo didn't care about the VGX audience they wouldn't bother with it, like they haven't bothered for the last forever. Nintendo owes no-one favours and wouldn't put up content unless they actually wanted something to show.

That said, I don't think Mario Kart would be unusual either. Mario Kart is another franchise loved by gamers from all cuts of cloth, and tends to be one of those franchises (like Smash) everyone from all camps likes to pick up and play. So yeah, Mario Kart would be another fit I think would work fine.

I phrased that badly. What I meant was: I think, that Nintendo thinks, that the VGX audience would love to see new footage of Mario Kart.

Ah this thread was made too early! We're two weeks away and I'm positively hyped now. I want to see what Nintendo are announcing and the new mass effect :(

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Nintendo montage of sorts for 2014. X, Bayo 2, Kart, Smash, and maybe if we're really lucky a Zelda tease. Then Bill Trinen comes out and symbolically pours gasoline on a pile of Doritos and Mountain Dew, and sets it ablaze, to free us all from this dudebro madness.

Okay, maybe not that last part.

Haha Nintendo at the VGAs? Never thought I'd see the day.

Probably Super Smash Bros. with a (surprising?) new character.

Smash Bros. was what I was thinking. It's a good move for Nintendo, but I wouldn't be able to care all that much. I'm totally sold on SSB already. I need a new Zelda trailer.

X is the J-ist of J-RPGs. The only way it makes it into VGX is if Nintendo really doesn't know what the audience is that typically tunes in, or they focus it entirely on mecha gameplay and make people think it's the next Titanfall (even though Titanfall isn't out yet).

Though yes, Nintendo could show just a new, decent length X trailer and I'd consider it a great showing from them. For now, that's the game that's got me the most hype about next-gen gaming.

Thank you for this great thread EatChildren & Shinobi.

Subscribed.

In the past years I personally got more out of the VGAs than E3.

Really excited.

Heh, I was actually wondering a few weeks ago that if 3D World were to get a goty nod, would Nintendo bring any presents? Makes sense that they would, actually, since they have core-oriented games on the horizon unlike when skyward sword got the nod.

Fallout 4 please, I want to see the new engine Obsidian will work with for New Vegas 2.

I will be extremely disappointed if Fallout 4 doesn't make an appearance, I can't think of any other existing IP that I want to see getting a next gen sequel. Better not be cross gen!

Three hours then.

How long were the VGA's in previous years?

One hour, two hours maybe.

The format is completely different though. In previous years the VGAs were a live stage events primarily aimed at television. Until last year they were never officially streamed online. To watch you had to find someone UStreaming the event, and even then SpikeTV producers kept shutting them down.

This year they've turned it into a pre-recorded (I think) studio event with developer interviews and extended gameplay sessions. As far as I'm aware it's not streaming on SpikeTV either, and is instead getting a bunch of official internet streams, with a TV recap later on.

Excellent. Thanks.

Beautiful Thread!

The hype is always strong- some great reveals, some terrible host and some really interesting stage presentation.

Every year we get the homies together to bask in the awkwardness of it all. I am excited!

Now I'm hyped for a Fallout 4 reveal for the Wii U (DO IT REGGIE!)

Other guess for Gaf meltdown is Crash in Smash.

Realistically, I'm hoping they show a Zelda teaser, Bayo 2 or more X.

These assholes have treated Nintendo like shit in the past -- don't like Nintendo being there.

Well it would be possible for Nintendo to show off Zelda U. Although that would clash with Aonuma's statement that he will talk more about Zelda at E3 2014. Don't know what to think.

Reveal trailer at VGX, more info at E3?

  • What: Fifth major Uncharted game, fourth on a home console, currently without a numerical header and subtitle. For PlayStation 4.
  • Last Seen: Teaser trailer during Sony's SpikeTV PlayStation 4 launch extravaganza.
  • Why? With a teaser shown this early, a VGX reveal would be a logical follow-up and a major title from Sony. Naughty Dog is currently on an average of one new game every two years. The Last of Us was June 2013, so it's possible an Uncharted 4 reveal will wait until E3 2014 or beyond.

I think the 1 game every 2 years tempo is out of balance this time since ND has 2 teams, its been 2 years since UC3, UC3 director is making UC PS4, if the game is coming late 2014 it will be ~3 years since the UC3 team released a game. I think the reveal trailer will show off what the plot is about, the protagonist and small bits of gameplay(like the UC3 reveal), with a releasedate set for holiday 2014.

I wonder if Nintendo will show Zelda U?

I seem to remember Aonuma saying in an interview at NYCC (I think?) that he considered revealing it there but held off. Would be a nice surprise.

Announcing another Zelda right after releasing A Link Between Worlds? Most of the team was probably exclusively crunching that out over the past few months.
