Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

We've known what each console has sold almost exactly for the past couple of years or so.

From the manufacturer? nope.

If Sony does start giving out PS4 numbers, I'm curious what they'll do with Vita numbers.

Anyway, neither company has much class so they'll brag when they can and hide when they can't.

Folks called this headline a week ago. It comes as little surprise given the pre-orders and considering it is world wide.

Holy shit, that is insane.

Both the PS4 and the 'bone are on fire.

And there seems to be no kind of shortage coming either. If Sony and MS can flood the distribution channels through the holiday season the install bases of both consoles could end up reaching historical heights.

Also, Wii U am cry.

probably the biggest takeaway from all of this. But, I think the holidays will be great for everyone.

It's amazing that if you question the numbers then people imply you are a fanboy. I owned all consoles last gen and I will own all consoles this gen.

Chill with the accusations.

I'll pull more people's cards if I have to.

Sadface at some of the attacking or criticizing...

To be fair, MS could have sent all 1 million consoles to the US, too, and likely sold out. At the very least, we can agree that it's probable considering the timing of today.

Sometimes it's OK to just be happy about preliminary numbers for gaming's sake, and save the industry analysis for the NPD data.

I'm usually pretty critical and competitive as a finance guy... I mean, it's beyond just being a fan, my very livelihood and personal savings is contigent on being critical and even aggresive about declaring winners or advantages in an industry or sector. And i have been before. I hestitate to seem contraditory. I'm really not prone to be sensitive about other people being so critical or aggressive about who is doing better...

But the way some people are critiquing or taking sides here, in the context of just some genuinely happy news, positive for all gamers, genuinely gives me a sad face.

That doesn't make any sense, Sony didn't just send all their supply to NA, they're also splitting it between NA and Europe. Unless you think they can produce 1 million units for Europe in two weeks? Come on dude.

Nothing, they just won't give Vita numbers. All companies employ the same PR, this isn't some Sony exclusive thing. If the X1 doesn't sell more than the PS4 you can be sure as hell MS won't be publishing their numbers anymore.

Those claiming Xbone isnt sold out in the States..how do you know this? I just assumed it was sold out everywhere. Do we know how many consoles MS shipped?

I want to know that too.

I saw people saying that PS4 was available on second day in US. Be available in some locations doesn't change that was basically sold out.

I didn't say we got them from the manufacturer, but do you really need them from the manufacturer?

that's what every business ever does, tho. LOL

Impressive. Also proves that most gamers are casual gamers, and don't care about which system is the most technologically advanced. Call Of Duty, Madden, Xbox Live, 1 million sold. It's as simple as that.

Wait a sec....stores are not even close on the west coast in the US at this point.....?
So it's a bit weird how it's possible that they have sell through numbers already....Sony waited until sunday for their PR.
Could they be assuming a ''virtual'' sell out of their 1m day one worldwide shipment?

Albert was in here implying they had the numbers already. I'm not sure why they would publish the PR now. You are correct west coast is still at happy hour.

Both companies are selling consoles as fast as they can make them. That's all there is to this story, as far as I can tell.

those asking for NPD numbers, those will favor Sony. lets see what happens when Titanfall releases.

lol. You do realize that Titanfall is an online only FPS that's on 360 and PC? If you want to count that then by the time it comes out inFamous, MLB The Show, Driveclub, Planetside 2, FF14, Everquest Next, and War Thunder. Unannounced 1st party exclusives will be known as well. I don't know why you think this 1 game is going to somehow turn the entire thing around.

Never stop dreaming?

They're possibly already sold out. The Microsoft store someone linked to earlier as having units is out.

It's funny how a console can sell a million units in 24 hours and somehow still be doomed around here.

Instead of comparing the number of countries Xbox and PS4 have launched in, a more accurate comparison would be comparing the total population numbers that have the console available in their country.

Yes.

I'd like you to expound on this idea right here. I'm interested to know the logic behind it. Do you believe there was enough demand here in the US for MS to sell 1 million units in 1 day?
Anecdotal: Last night at about 9:30pm I walked off the street into the LA launch party with Deadmau5 playing (the one they showed on Spike). Supposedly they had people line up for this at 10am that day, the first 500 who purchased a console were granted access to the party, the next 500 were guaranteed availability of the console but no party access. Yet I got in at 9:30pm, bought my day one edition with no line and was then allowed into the party which had a fair amount of people in it but was nowhere near crowded.

That has to say something about demand for the console among the early adopter/hardcore crowd, doesn't it?

Congratulations! Now that all the new consoles are out, I hope to see games shine and creators' imaginations put the new hardware power to good use!

Over 60 million zombies have been killed in “Dead Rising 3”
Over 3.6 million miles driven in “Forza Motorsport 5”
Over 7.1 million combos in “Killer Instinct”
Over 8.5 million enemies defeated in “Ryse: Son of Rome”

And, fans also found time for some exercise, with over 43.3 million Fit Points earned in Xbox Fitness.
What about Zoo Tycoon? How many beeps?

OK not too disimilar. That 200k spread pretty thin I'd imagine, enough to claim a sell out.

There were multiple stores we contacted in Germany who were told they would get less than 20 Bones until the beginning of next year. To me it is a soft launch in the non-English speaking world. Just a token "you're still important to us" launch.

I think they would have been better off launching in US, Canada, UK, Australia and NZ and spread the stock out better in those countries then worried about non-English countries in 2014 while also working on getting deals signed with Cable TV companies in Europe.

Is Xbox One completely sold out in the US? I heard PS4 is completely sold out. I'm curious.

I haven't gone to stores to ask (only went to 1 to pickup Mario 3D Land and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds).

Well done Microsoft. Glad to see we'll have a good competition going.

I'm not sure I'd say early adopters are representative of the rest of the market. That said good numbers for Microsoft considering what they've put themselves through getting here.

MS already launched in all those countries? Sony must be really confident to let them get a head start like that

That's what I think makes Sony's number look even better. They did over a million units in their weakest territory while MS did 1 million in their two strongest territories + 11 others. Assuming Sony has enough stock, the 29th should be on par or bigger than their NA launch and then Japan is on the horizon (though who knows if it'll even sell big like the previous Playstations there).

It's weird how defensive people are in this thread, that quote didn't seem to spell doom at all. It's pretty unorthodox how they announced the PR before the day was over. Can't believe people are getting jumped on for pointing that out.

Like I said it seems a bit weird imo.
People in the other thread are reporting that consoles can still be found and this announcement comes in when 24h have not even passed in all the markets involved.
My guess is that based on preorders and early sell through numbers they are assuming a virtual sellout of their launch stock (which means that >90% of their shipment has been effectively sold through).

Edit: Also if you're talking about my post in particular it was clearly not about being doomed but about understanding things.
Those are still big numbers and it's good that the market can support two successful products.

I agree. Thanks for input. Was the performance good?
