i don't know why sega doesn't put up 3d trailers for these games. there's a few screens but they aren't the same as seeing space harrier 3d in motion.

can i resist buying sonic 1 again? on one hand i really don't need another version, as brilliant as the original sonic is. on the other i love layers of pixel art in 3d and want to support these efforts. hmm.
Exactly why I'm changing my tune on picking up Sonic. I really want to support their efforts.

Not with Altered Beast though. Fuck Altered Beast.

Just grabbed Sonic. It's a bit cheaper than the other SEGA 3D games on the Australian eShop!

They do such a great job with these that I'm even inclined to give them money for Altered Beast, haha...
what am i doing

OMG Sonic is amazing. The 3D actually makes the game easier and looks magical. Just wish the game filled the screen properly.

This will be the first time I play through a Sonic game in years. Really hoping there's something to 3D on a sidescroller.

Haha, nope. I'm buying it a second time today. Fantastic port. Deserves support.

Yeah, I don't regret putting down the money for it since 1. the ports are undeniably great 2. I want the second batch of games to come out over here, but at the same time, I'm glad I don't have to actually play Altered Beast to show my support.

As a side note, it looks like they didn't include a sound test in the settings with the two new releases. :(

Edit: Never mind, you have to active "Special" in the Main Menu and you get a level select and the sound test. Woo!

Edit2: And for Altered Beast you can use the cheat (Press start while holding A+C+Up+Right) to get to it.

I can't see the 3D effect on 3DS and don't really dig any of the games in "phase one" of this. However, the love and care M2 has put into these ports based on the interviews has made me think I really need to vote with my dollars here and buy them. My question is, are they worth it if 3D isn't an option? I know there is a lot of detail added, but are there configurable options and things beyond the parallax?

haven't played it, but i'm gonna assume it's just a matter of some people saying the layered sidescrolling makes the game look lots better, while others are saying it doesn't add anything to the gameplay.

Man, as much as I obviously love Altered Beast, I can't justify paying this for the MD version.

I would have gone for the arcade version though, despite it being harder than shit.

Sonic looks great on 3DS. I think i'll buy Hang-On next.

What do people think Season 2 would look like?

-After Burner II
-OutRun (DC ver without Ferrari)
-Sonic 2
-Streets of Rage 2

That wouldn't make sense as there's very little parallax. You'd have to use polygons to make it appear in 3d.

I know, I'm joking because it has 3D in the title.

For real I'd love to see both Toejam and Earl games. I know the first wouldn't be perfect for 3D due to the camera, though they could add some depth for near land vs. far land. Orthographic style.

Throw on Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder so we can have an actual port.

And ToeJam and Earl just so we can have the most funky-fresh Genesis game in history on one more platform.

didn't Sonic used to be 60fps? pretty sure this is 30... also got some flickering of the backgrounds when some objects move that I don't remember in the original

Just bought my 3DS XL, what would you guys recommend that I purchase? I've never played any of these Sega titles. Yes, i know, I'm a noobie.

It's 60 fps here. I don't know what you're seeing.

Though, obviously, 60 fps on a crappy LCD isn't going to match 60 fps on a real CRT so it definitely doesn't look perfect.

Still, the 3DS resolution is a great match for these games as the Genesis resolution fits perfectly within (3DS = 400x240 while Genesis = 320x224). With most devices you need to upscale everything though the iPhone ports did a perfect job of scaling the pixels to fill the screen.

So what's the deal with Sonic's 3D effect? The translated interview on Siliconera made it sound god-like and some seem to agree but then you also have people saying it's not that impressive.

I'm confused...

There are essentially three settings:

CRT mimic (curved, older palette, no scan lines)
3D fall in
3D pop out

I quite like the fall in setting. It's hard to notice until you slide the 3D down to zero and it looks flat and lifeless. Another bonus is that it doesn't ghost as much trying more intense play as it's not as exaggerated. It's subtle and sweet.

urghhh i wasn't planning on buying these because i own all these games several times in one form or another but... these impressions :O

you're gonna make me bite
