Nintendo's VGX reveal is fucking Cranky Kong!!!

Reaction before I had to lie down.

people are only blown away by presentation. mario kart 8 has you driving upside down and it looks different enough that it's cause for celebration. x looks unlike any other nintendo game aside xenoblade, so that's cause for celebration. metroid would probably have a different aesthetic too. i'm not against having more metroid, but the industry puts out so many games aimed at a specific audience that it kinda sucks when something different like pikmin or dkc gets shit on solely for their looks (and the excitement for dkctf did increase once david wise, who focuses on the presentation aspect of games, was announced as the composer).
agreed.especially now when 90% of the games released are within 4 or 5 genres.

are you under the impression Sin and Punishment 2 sold like...at all?

The Nintendo I've known for the past 25+ years doesn't give a shit about this.

So basically you're just mad because they put out a game that doesn't appeal to you, even if it's absolutely fantastic. I'm super excited about stuff like X and FE X SMT, but honestly in all probability they wouldn't release info on those games here before Japan. Especially FE X SMT. ANd I really don't get how you can hate Nintendo n putting out platformers when they're also one of the few companies that still bothers. Platformers are fun, just because you don't like them means jack shit. And Nintendo does put out other stuff. Saying they don't is fucking idiotic

I find your accusation odd considering my meltdown is due to them putting out a platformer instead of their other stuff. Me having a meltdown at all means I love their other stuff.

It was the right content, because...

Surprisingly, I'm glad Nintendo chose to show Donkey Kong. This was absolutely the right choice in my mind, especially after seeing how bad the show actually is. I really don't see it as a missed opportunity by Nintendo because their biggest game reveals should happen in much better venues.

LOOK AT ALL OF THE OTHER REVEALS

We have a port. A borderlands spinoff. and nothing else.

Ir would be one thing if Sony or MS was here dropping new shit....but they are not.

Like seriously, use some goddam perspective guys. This show isn;t a big deal. So they didn't bring a big deal.

fucking hell its like some of you like being let down

Other than that weird ending in MP3, they really didn't say "Hey! We're making another Metroid!" they were rather tightlipped about their next project, which then turned out to be DKCR. Then they announced a sequel. They never hyped another Metroid game, but the fans did.

Let them cry their eyes out. :lol

Because nobody who owns a Nintenco console plays platformers, right?

Metroid or a New IP wouldn't have sold near as much as Donkey Kong. It's about time Nintendo made up for all those years they left DK fans hanging after the Rare buyout too.

People won't buy a $300 console for Donkey Kong.

Some people will buy a $300 console for Metroid.

actually the cranky seems to play considerably different to the other characters.

Yeah, he looks like a fun character, and it's pretty cool that we'll get to play as him. But, on balance, I think this is a relatively poor VGX offering by Nintendo. We've already seen a decent amount of Tropical Freeze, and we know it's not going to be a dramatic break from Returns. It has the capacity to pleasantly surprise, I suppose, but it's still essentially a known quantity. It does not match whatsoever vague teasing about "something special" related to an "unannounced Wii U title." That summons images about something we've seen little of. This is the complete opposite of that.

That's what I thought. This show has 44k, so saying "it's not a big enough venue for true megatons" isn't necessarily a good line of reasoning for an argument, since it dwarfs ND numbers.

I forgot about that. Yeah, this venue is a lot bigger than people are giving it credit for, even if it's not "good."

Then why aren't the other companies revealing big stuff?

I like nintendo and most of their platformers, but I really didn't care at all for DKCR. Probably won't fuss with this until I can nab it out of some cheap promotion or sale.

Didn't expect anything out of this reveal, though. Doesn't seem like the place they'd do anything new or significant.

they do. it was strong sales of sin & punishment on the north american virtual console that led them to believe a sequel would be popular. they even backed it up with a tv ad campaign. while it was well-received critically, nintendo only made casual games for the wii and abandoned core games so sin & punishment 2 doesn't actually exist.

So guys, is this better or worse than Pac Man VS being Nintendo's secret weapon at E3 2003?

Reggie should have been like "Oh yes, we'll have lots more information in a brand new Nintendo Direct on [insert date here]"

That would have been kind of funny and not only given Nintendo the chance to drive hype in advance, but also kind of stick it to Geoff a bit.

Sure, Microsoft and Sony aren't revealing anything, but it seems to me it was a slightly missed opportunity to get a leg up on holiday hype.

didnt DKCR get a lot of praise and sell quite a lot? why is that a waste?

I'm sorry, I must be frustrated...and I'm tired. I'm tired of waiting for Nintendo to make good on their promise to deliver compelling, unique gameplay experiences I can only get on Wii U. DK is neither compelling nor unique.

Nintendo has always been about pumping out potential best-sellers first, filling the catalog with additional content later.

It's pure goodwill (or Miyamoto accidentally saying they're working on it) that led them to put out a game like Pikmin 3 in a new console's launch year after the first two games' performance on GameCube.

Well, none of the VGX offerings have really been that interesting so far, and we've actually seem surprisingly little for TF so far.

And it's also a bit of a stretch to think that a Japanese company with a remarkably weak Western branch is going to care about an American-centric show like the VGX. That they bothered to show up at all is somewhat remarkable.

Nothing really. That's why you don't waste the resources of your most talented western studio on crap like DK.
Except based on Returns's sales, it seems people would disagree with it being crap and it seems to have been quite an efficient use of Retro's resources, being their best-selling game thus far. Heck, even the port on the 3DS did pretty well for itself, especially considering how soon it followed the Wii version. Now of course, I'm not really expecting Tropical Freeze to do nearly as well, but that's because the Wii U's tanked as a whole and nothing, not even Mario can do well on it and anything Retro could pop out would face the same challenge.

I'm trying to figure out what something about a previously announced title could have possibly meant to people.

Look...I don't even like Donkey Kong (although it was more so because waggle to roll was a dumb idea..so I might give this one a shot) and I would have loved to have Smash be the game they showed off but I am also not stupid enough to expect Nintendo to show off something new and amazing at a show where nothing major have been revealed...DK also happens to be the next game out so giving it some shine makes sense but stilI get not wanting to see it, or not liking it and wanting Retro to do something else...that's fine but stop it with the apocalypse shit because not revealing Zelda tonight at the fucking VGX truly will end the company....

get real.

Nintendo didn't even have to bring out a new exclusive game. I think if they had announced a major 3rd party game coming to the wii u like dark souls 2/destiny with exclusive content that would have been a fantastic announcement at the vgx.
Of course this is asking for too much

Even Smash announcement sounds way more appropriate

Can Nintendo do anything that doesn't involve one of their existing characters/franchises?

Don't answer that. It's a rhetorical question.

I'm simply saying Donkey Kong Country is not a system seller.

I'll give you that since 3D World sure hasn't helped the Wii U, but Metroid fans will get their game eventually. They had about three great ones in a row too, what's so bad about Donkey Kong getting a sequel anyway.
