Neto.

I've been buying quite some games on Steam lately.
Let's hope this brings back quality games to PC.

More Japan on PC and I build a rig. It's the only thing holding me back.

Nintendo handheld+PC is my ideal combo. I can't do this yet.

What do you mean indifference from valve and japanese publishers?

Also, I've seen plenty of Japanese games do well on steam... like dark souls + ys.
Yeah. Not only we know for a fact that Valve went to Japan to court a lot of developers/publishers some time ago, but we are also starting to see most of them finally jumping on the Steam ship... And yet there are a lot of people on this forum that keep pretending nothing is changed and the PC will always be off-limits for the Japanese gaming industry.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
I want to see the numbers on Origin and UbiThing.

EA has only dealt in total user accounts (inclusive of mobile) rather than Valve's metric of active user accounts, which is rather telling. The last Origin figure we got was last October and to the order of "over 30 million", but mobile makes up almost half of this figure.

Already half way to 8m it seems

Good for them, hopefully everyone else will try to emulate their success. Unfortunately none of them will come close, because at the end of the day they aren't valve.

Such growth during a year with two new console releases is very impressive. If Valve play their cards right with SteamOS and the Steam Machines they can really put the hurt on Microsoft and Sony.

edit 2: old thread idk why I didn't check the date before responding to a post on the second page:p

ot: man how is it even going up this fast, then again there seem to be dozens of games releasing on steam every week now (to the point where I can't keep up at all with following the new releases)

Great, next year will be big for Steam. Steammachine/os/pad, Dota2 will get even more players, pretty sure a new valve game, Valve supports VR from the start and it looks like it will be a great year for PC Games overall.

It would be much more exciting if gog.com like sites would sell millions of games. (digital, yet no DRM shit)

Turns out most people give no shits about DRM that doesn't cause anyone any problems. The 5 people who still do will just have to keep being miserable I guess.

Yeah, let's pretend you actually care about what kind of store sells more on PC, just for the sake of a better dramatic effect.

People would rather take Steam DRM over no DRM if given the choice in my experience.

Pretty much. Even Amazon had to start offering steam-key options on games that aren't even steamworks to motivate more people to buy them. From what I've heard it's worked extremely well too.

I have bought games from GOG but almost always i just forget that i even have them. I have actually bought games twice because of this. First time from gog and second time from steam sale. The download, install and play process is easy enough but it's not steam easy.

I would like to support it more but there is not much to support. The (new) game selection is very small and publishers won't put their games there.

What an amazing thread bump!

So what we're seeing is an extra 600,000 in three weeks. I was expecting 8 million by end of next year, not this fast. Is this just the left for dead 2 deal in effect or is this a sign of exponential growth?

There is no reason to boycott steam as it is just a service to download a game you purchased securely as it's the developer who decides to implement the drm.

Just because a game is on steam doesn't mean is has to use it's copy protection there are plenty of games already on steam that will continue to function even if you removed steam completely from your computer.

Well, there are good chances that these numbers could not be topped until June sales or next Christmas, anyway.

That's a very good point. It's a shame there isn't a site that tracks the increase or decrease in steam users concurrently on steam and in-game, over time.

Not exactly what you're looking for but I like Steamcharts. It's history only goes back a bit though so it's not an "all-time" if you will, it's more a "since this site opened".

My Steam starts with my computer I don't know if that counts or not but I never actually play games with it. However, I have bought a ton of games my computer can't handle. Team PS4 (Not by choice)

The value proposition of PC gaming has never been better. Cheap games and graphics cards that can produce great better than 360/PS3 visuals at <$150.

They do, at least as of late. That's why they are shitting up PC gaming threads more than ever these days. Anyway, I despise console gamers. For me, they're somewhere between a cockroach and that white stuff that accumulates at the corner of your mouth when you're really thirsty.

Super old post to quote oh i havent had this good a laugh in awhile.

Well, mine doesn't, and I use it by default in offline mode unless I want to log online.
See? For each anecdotal evidence you can expect the opposite.

If you don't like it you can just change the option, by the way.
