Tora, who could we get in touch with to get Silent Hill 1-3 on Steam? They all already have solid PC ports available, would just be a matter of pushing them through the registry and some QA, achievements/trading cards if you want to be an overachiever.

Would love to see MGS1 and 2 as well, but those ports are effectively useless and would need to be redone. Not so sure about the former, but definitely the latter in that regard.

I'm going way out on a limb here, and feel free to ignore this portion, but any plans for an x86/x64 port of the Legacy Collection for next-gen and PC?

Silent Hill 1-3 are just so often requested due to the quality of the ports and the definitive status of the 3 games, its simply perplexing why they are not available on Steam or GOG.

Listen to this man. Please for the love of god, I don't know how many more reinstalls my SH PC discs can take!

Yeah I hear you, just wanted to make sure. Might just hold out until I get a desktop computer then.

I plan on testing it out @1080p with my aging Core 2 Quad on launch day, which is far slower than your processor. I'll be putting my results up for the interest of science, keep an eye out!

Its weird seeing Konami fail so hard to understand DD/Steam, their games on steam are almost never ever on sale, been waiting years to purchase Silent Hill homecoming and PES.

Its like they dont care or they dont believe in lowering prices or something.

I tend to give them some slack, they just woke up to the moneymaking potential and popularity of the platform very recently.
Metal Gear Rising and Castlevania have had very good discounts for example.

Right after Sega's first quarterly report of 2013 they seemed to come to their senses....what an interesting coincidence...

Castlevania was on sale a few times during the winter sale.

Our position in Online/Social Media at KDE-US is as long as you are adhering to Fair Use, you are totally in the right. Sometimes we get complaints that people get flagged for something by Konami, but we assume overzealous content ID and we've worked with many YouTubers to get videos unflagged as promptly as possible. Most of the time we will only step in on cases of people linking to ISOs in the description (mainly PES). Personally, the only one that irks me is full longplays devoid of commentary or added additional content. At least be creative!

Granted, this is just our department. Things may be flagged by Japan/Europe or Legal for mysterious reasons unbeknownst to me. That can be harder to undo.
Thanks for the fast reply.

You got to choose your install directory? For me, the pre-load is just a big lump of data in a Temp file on my C drive, waiting to get installed

Yeah, it might be because I activated my Amazon key after they opened up the pre-load. So as soon as I activated it just prompted me to download it like any other released game and I was able to pick my 2TB drive instead.

Edit: Nevermind, just checked and it didn't actually download it to the drive I picked. So now I have 3GB left on my SSD..

that's weird mine just finished downloading and the depot cache for Revengeance is in my HDD's Steam folder.

Hoooly crap totally didn't know this was happening and then a Steam presale pops up. Was planning to buy it on PS3 at some point but effff that noise :D

edit: Just got it with the 25% off at GMG (GMG25-0YUM5-VKMVU), $18 total. Common knowledge now I'm sure but dang.

Optus shut down its gaming network years ago so the filter won't help. The only ISP that offers unmetered access to more than its own content servers is Internode (and perhaps also other ii-owned ISPs, but this wasn't the case last I checked).

iiNet, Westnet, Internode, Netspace and Adam Internet all have access to Freezone including Steam content servers :)

We've been pushing pretty hard for a while now on the Digital Distribution side of things, as I say, there are always many factors.

Keep telling us, and we will relay that to those that make these decisions. For Metal Gear I can almost assure you they (KJP) would want the HD versions ported which would have to be evaluated, cost-analysis, etc. Silent Hill PC ports were done way before I joined the company and I'm not sure how that was done (outsourced or in-house) but like many reasons about why we can't do X/Y/Z it probably has to do with licenses. If you think it's a good idea and we haven't done it yet... Licenses (probably).

But I will continue to look into it. You are not the first person to advocate for more of our releases on Steam. Many of us here have been asking as well.

Sorry for the long response and long wait (meetings), I hope that answers everything.

Obviously I don't know the facts but the only thing I can think of license wise is the voice acting for the Silent Hill games and didn't Konami renegotiate those for the HD collection ? Especially for 2 as I believe the original cast signed wavers letting them use the original voice tracks after the new voice recording was done.

That's just assumptions on my part, I'm sure it's a more tangled mess than that.

is it just me? pc gaming performance > resolution no? i would give less of a damn if it ran at native 1440p if it struggles to keep a solid 60fps even with all the settings set to low.

I'm not sure where this came from. You do realise that plenty of people play games at above 1080p at 60fps, right?

There is no reason for this to be a question of 1080p and good performance or anything above and horrible performance.

I would sacrifice a goat to the devil if MGS3 gets a Pc port

25GB Preload :D

That certainly points to the PS3's higher quality FMVs. Which I am excited for.

As soon as game is available i'll be testing for AA(SGSSAA,other methods) and HBAO+ with nvidia cards.

I would love MGS2/3 HD on steam too. But, what i'd really LOVE is an option to Toggle 30FPS for MGS3 and 30FPS for the cutscenes in MGS2. Unstable and constantly dropping 60FPS is both too smooth, unstable and looks far to uncinematic.

Last I checked the PC ports of MGS1 and MGS2 are mostly alright. I couldn't get analog movement to work in MGS, and obviously neither supported pressure sensitive inputs. They're not terrible or anything, but it would be nice to have new ports based on the Bluepoint remasters.

Silent Hill 2 is great after running a few fan made patches. I believe the Silent Hill 3 port was the only one done in-house at Konami, but I only say that because there's nothing to indicate it was outsourced. I haven't tried SH4 myself, but I hear that one is the worst of the bunch. It would be neat to have all three patched up and readily available for purchase/download on Steam, GOG, etc. Keep the HD Collection versions away, please.

According to JP, 2-8x MSAA should be there out of the box. That's so refreshing to hear after playing so many games that simply have a 'FXAA ON or OFF' switch.

it's been some time since i've tried the mgs2 pc version, but i remember it being mostly busted and not entirely up to scratch even at release

i imagine now you'd need all kinds of fan developed hacks to even get it running properly on modern machines

at this point it makes sense to forget about that version entirely, at least a port of the hd collection would ensure some longevity in the title on pc through steam

Tora, We would love if the next porting project is the MGS HD collection. Or at least Peace Walker for some some multiplayer goodness.

We appreciate the response.

Good to hear that KJP would want to use the newer remasters and do it correctly.

The original Silent Hill didn't actually have a PC release. It was only 2, 3 and 4.

Thanks for the clarification.

I would imagine that Konami would want something like this sometime slightly after the release of MGSV. Would drum up significant interest in the series and higher sales potential for a Legacy Collection port.

Take your pick, send us mail, electronic or otherwise to the region of your residence and let it be heard.

Or just continue what you are already doing. Talking about it here or on social media, letting more people know about it. A big part of my job is constructing reports of what people are talking about week to week on the most popular sites.

People mention the desire for the Silent Hill games almost constanly on GAF and the dedicated Steam thread.
Anytime I bring up the possibility of the Legacy Collection popping up on Steam I get at least 5-10 positive responses.

For example, when I was making a joke about the success of MGR during the Steam Sales by saying, 'MGSV port confirmed,' people were going nuts.

Keep the HD collections the hell away from everybody.

Really? ... Zone of the Enders HD Collection on Steam would be a day 1 purchase for me. That's my contribution!

I just picked up the PS3 version since ZoE2 runs at 1080p/60FPS, quite impressive. Hats off to KJP for going the extra mile with that one.

Hey everybody, remember the big conversation we were having earlier? About Metal Gear Solid 5 on PC being the tops?

That sure would be great, that Metal Gear Solid 5.

I'd love to see that, too. But there are so many dollars and so many man-hours that can be allocated at once. Our cup runneth over. For now, we're just focused on making sure Rising goes really well, then maybe we can open up new avenues.

Yeah, the patch did wonders for that game. Still, I would rebuy it on Steam because it's a game I could see myself playing again a decade from now. It's a lot easier to do that on a PC.

Sure, it would be sweet if the mgs series or the old silent hill games would find their way to steam or gog, but for me the most important thing would be that all future konami releases make it to pc, not the past ones. Rising although delayed, and Lords of Shadow 2 are good signs, but then we have Ground Zeros which won't come to pc(right?), so i'm not really sure if konami has made up their mind about supporting the pc platform. I bought Lords of shadow, i bought mgr and i will buy Lords of Shadow 2, and i hope that i can buy lot's more games in the future!

A bit extreme, no? I'll have to play the game at the mercy of either Nvidia's scaler or my monitors. Not supporting 1080P+ is poor.

That's what the other graphical options are there for. When I (and most other people) play a game on pc, the first thing I do is set it in my native resolution, and then adjust all the other settings until it runs smoothly. Having slightly worse shadows >>> having the whole screen smeared in vaseline. Upscaled games look like shit, especially on high resolution screens.
And anyway, this is a freaking last gen game. Even an entry level pc today is infinitely more powerful than a 360. And even if the game was really badly optimised, there are pcs out there that are as powerful as 2 PS4s. Do you really think these pcs couldn't run this game at 1440p 60 fps? Performance is a laughable excuse to lock a game's resolution on pc.

But that's your decision to make and contingent on your specific hardware. Having the ability to run a game at higher settings doesn't retroactively worsen your experience, that's why you're able to edit them.

i think ultimately the only mgs game that may never see a proper port elsewhere is mgs4

allegedly the codebase is quite chaotic due to struggles getting used to the ps3's architecture (and it shows, as quite a few areas are probably unpolished due to the sheer virtue of managing to get it to work at all), and i'm sure in the documentary from one of Metal Gear Saga DVDs you can see that caused some staff tension

i remember reading something about the problems developing mgs4 spurring the development of the fox engine, but i'm not 100% certain

i'm fairly sure red dead redemption didn't go to pc for similar reasons (fucked code, but not as a result of any specific console, we all know that game was hell for the developers for a number of reasons), any attempts at porting would be incredibly rough and could end up breaking a majority of the game, requiring a heavy overhaul that isn't really budgeted for when doing porting work

i wouldn't mind an mgs4 'do-over' where kojima or someone else reimagines a majority of the game though. outer haven would get snipped entirely if it were up to me, and act 3 would change location from prague to london, imagine how cool it'd be to have snake walking along london bridge at night with big ben and the houses of parliament as the surroundings (plus it'd be ripe for a reference to the introduction of james bond in dr no), but i digress

Silent Hill 2 and 3 need to hit GOG, that would be incredible.

Steam is alright but these games need a proper DRM free version.

i mean my priority is hey does this game even run well before resolutions? You'd think its a given with pc ports these days but you'd never know. X: Rebirth ran like 20fps on even dual titans at launch, but hey it supported resolutions over 1080p so i guess its all good?

So I got an email today from Gamefly suggesting I could now pre-load the game. Woo!

However, I just entered it, and Steam's response was almost as though it was DLC for a game that wasn't yet released. The confirmation screen then had a box without any items inside it.

No listing of Metal Gear Rising in my steam list at all. So no preloading all of them sweet gigs for me.
