Aw, someone said he's tired of GAF. How is such thing possible? :(

There's so many good fellow GAFfers in here, besides, nothing wrong by stating the true and celebrating good news. It's a new generation, it is expected for games to have a better performance and I'm glad they managed to get 60 FPS on the PS4.

Wow. I just don't understand why someone would buy an XB1 over a PS4. It makes no sense to me. Is love of Forza that strong?

I don't know. Maybe it's the amazing online service that is Xbox Live. The innovative Kinect Sensor with its motion tracking and voice recognition capabilities. Or maybe its the slew of amazing first party and third party exclusives coming to console. I really don't understand it either......

How the hell can still say this bullshit? Unlocked framerates reduces input lag. Did he never hear about G-sync?

Given most average game journalist are not well versed in tech, is it any surprised that a shill would not want to know any better?

The moment he mentioned KZSF it was reminder why he was rightly discredited and admonished by evilore amongst others here.

No. It's called preferences. Understand that, people have preferences and different tastes. It's not bizarre like you're making it out to be. Same with mobile phone gamers.

Because they have shitty friends that play on Xbox.

You should consider rewording that. Again. /Preferences./

So how long before Microsoft start paying Devs to not make the PS4 version of games any better than the level they reach on the xbone?

What exactly would give you the impression they have that type of clout to begin with? They're 3rd party developers, and they will do as they please (which usually means flocking to whichever side sells the best).

It's silly because you can't lock it. You can optimize so that it should never drop below the target framerate, but if something crazy happens it happens and it goes below.
Well that's certainly good enough if "something crazy" is truly a rare and unexpected phenomenon.

I just don't like to give outs for people to rationalize sub 30fps, as we've seen so many games unable to even keep to that target.

Killzone Shadowfall was supposed to be 60fps unless there was 24 AI at which point we'd see small drops. Yeah, no. And that was put out there early. Just like we're hearing about 60fps in the same breath we're hearing about dips. Which paints a less rosy picture.

I think we agree overall - you're making a specific technical point which I can appreciate.

How many people posting in here will actually buy this damn game? lol

I was going to wait until the price goes lower, but seeing it on Gaf's GOTY list kinda swayed my previous stance. Still not sure though, whether I want to pay 60€ for a last gen game. I admit the good word the game has received, together with the now announced 1080p/60fps, and the traditional drought between the launch and March, makes it a very tempting purchase.

I believe it would need to be triple buffered v-sync to run at variable framerates. But yes, it is possible.

you beat me to it. (i had to free my other arm from this cat sleeping in my lap to google it)

i remember a few PS3 games (not that names though) having no screen tearing despite their variable framerates and i thought it was a good idea at the time. maybe it was the first Bioshock?

im glad this was posted because i was a little bummed about the recent 30fps news and was going to cancel my preorder and wait for a lower price.

Lol, I am not much of an expert on input lag, but I do remember Digital Foundry saying that Killzone Shadowfall benefited from the unlocked framerate with regards to input lag. So one of them has to be wrong, I think we all know who.

With all due respect to what Kinect is, it's far from useful or relevant in games right now and I don't want a part of it just like I changed my tune on the PS4 camera which I initially was sold on. The rest does nothing to negate the advantages of this particular port over the XB version.

So what other reasons are there to tout getting this on a machine which costs 500 USD vs the one with a sizable power and price advantage?

Now i'm actually excited about buying Tomb Raider this month. I was just going to get it because I had nothing to play on my PS4 and thought it looked good.

God of War 3 had variable framerate and no/minimal tearing....

Japanese 3rd party publishers like Square-Enix & Capcom certainly won't do something stupid like that to appease Microsoft, especially when most Japanese 3rd party games like the Final Fantasy series sells better on Playstation platforms.

Nearly every game is going to sell better on PS4 so it's in no dev's best interest to gimp the PS4 version. The only ones I've seen do it so far are EA with their sports games and we all know they have a marketing deal with MS. I doubt that will last long though.

If I haven't played this game, should this be an insta-buy? Is it really that good? I haven't played Tomb Raider since the original on PC.

I fapped to pixelated Lara back then. I'm not proud of it. Actually, that's amazing I am proud of that.

It's worth it for the 60 fps

60 faps per second

I have to ask, Does Rocket Chainsaw have any cred? It's the first time I heard of it as I am U.S. based.

If EatChildren posted it though I believe it to carry some weight.

If in the event it is untrue and both systems run at a locked 30fps can we blame a day one patch?

i already planned on getting this for ps4 when it dropped in price as i didn't play it last gen, good to hear i'll be playing the better version of it

$40 = sold

Oh boy, really hoping this is just a rumor that will blow over in the next week. Otherwise we may have a shitstorm brewing.

I may buy it now.
I was convinced this was going to be 30 FPS on both platforms, since its not, i may just snag it.

But not at 60$, ill find or wait for some kind of deal.
If i have a choice between 30 fps and 60 fps, I'm going for 60 fps, i already beat this game at 30 fps on last gen, so i wasn't going to buy it just for a visual upgrade and 0 performance upgrade, however this interests me, theres enough here for a purchase in my case now with 60 fps on top of everything else, i prefer performance to visuals.

Can't believe so many people deluded themselves and actually believed that console would have parity. It was obvious from the start that the PS4 would be more powerful.

Still, the difference between the two consoles have been pretty huge so far. There's got to be something seriously wrong with the X1 when the PS4 gets twice the resolution in some games and now twice the framerate.

Outside of a few games like Ghostbusters and Bayonetta, I don't remember any differences this huge between the PS3 and 360. My fear is that the X1 will hold back gaming, much like going with DVD did with the 360. Hopefully that doesn't happen though.
