Tomb Raider Definitive Edition - PlayStation 4 = ~60fps, Xbox One = ~30fps

Eh expected.

But this forum works like clockwork though.

If both were 30.. Gaf reacts by saying that the ps4 version is being held back.

If ps4 is better.. Gaf reacts by acting happy how the xbox is being proven weak.

False.
Did you miss the other thread where people were bashing the game saying it should easily be 60fps(on both platforms). No one said the PS4 was being held back.

You should consider rewording that. Again. /Preferences./

I dunno, man... Someone trying to pressure you into going with Bone over PS4 for multiplats isn't a friend.

I don't think we'll see anything that major. Prolly like a 900p v 1080p difference.

I can't imagine Bungie doing that to their Xbox fans.

If it does happen though... Well, I guess get ready for GAF to crash.

my guess is watch dogs will be another one too.

Just do this while playing.

Bahahahaha.....

I want to keep saying multiplatforms on the PS4 hit 60FPS in comparison to their 30FPS counterparts on the XBone now just to see the shitstorms happen now.

Now all I need is the PS4 versions of Destiny and the Crew to hit 60FPS and the XBone versions will only hit 30FPS and I'll just sit back and watch

Yeah, this came as no real shock to me. I already knew the PS4 had the hardware edge. This is going to be the norm. It's just plain more powerful.

The only time there was a difference in framerate so large was the FUCKED UP port of Bayonetta on ps3 that wasn't even handled by the team that developed the game. You can say this is no surprise, but there was never as large a discrepancy between multiplats on ps3/360. This is a huge difference. Huge.

I never expected a game to run at nearly twice the framerate at the same resolution.

What about the drops to 20-25 FPS because of the gimped CPU? Has that been ruled out?

I read that buy someone that presents themselves as knowledgeable on tech in various threads.

'The feel of definitive'

Shoot me if that joke's been made, thread's moving faster than Speedy Blue

Oh man, 1080p with TressFX is hefty as hell on even a decent PC rig, so I was fairly favorable it was running 30fps. Damn nice they are getting it hit 60fps with the upgrades. As for the tech console comparisons, well...

Anyone who played the killzone campaign or multiplayer (less than 24 players since 24 players runs like shit) knows the PS4 can handle some pretty impressive visuals

The differences shouldn't be this huge though. There'd obviously be a difference but so far the gap is bigger than between the 360 and PS3 (much bigger I'd say).

Did you or anyone think to ask if prior MP progress would port over?

I'm guessing it doesn't, but it be nice to be confirmed.

Nope. Probably should have! I'm guessing not though. Figured if it did that would be something they'd have already announced to encourage double dipping.

lol @ the fps difference

lol @ gies

lol @ EC's website being dead.

All in all pretty entertaining stuff. Anyway this is going to be a loooong generation FILLED with this kind of stuff....and it's not surprising at all. The knowledge of the differences between the consoles is something we've had for a while now.

Why are so many of us convinced of that? I remember in the PS3's early years, multiplatform games were absolute shart for the system. But it improved over the years and toward the end, there was parity.

Why are we so sure the Xbox One won't make similar strides down the line?

And I'm not saying it will! I'm just curious.

I've already played the game once, and I'm rebuying it mostly for the fun of it and to boost my gamerscore a bit more, since I failed to do so with the Xbox 360. If I was as invested into PSN's Trophy as I was with Gamerscore, I would definitely buy it on PS4 instead.

Also, by Voice Commands I mean more than the in-games "Fire", etc. I mean being able to just come home and switch to this whenever I get bored of Battlefield 4/Peggle 2, and be able to snap Netflix and catch up on some shows while I mindlessly replay this for the Achievements. (bolded this because this is my main reason)

Framerate is important to me, definitely more important resolution, but since I've already played this game, I care a little bit less.

Heh. Either way, he was never wrong. Both versions do run at 30 frames... minimum. PS4 just gets double the performance.

lol

60fps is an achievement, especially for a game like this. Now I'll probably get it sooner than later even though I played the mess out of it on PS3.

I can't say I'm shocked at this news. I think this will all depend on the lead platform for each game. Below are the scenarios I imagine will happen in the future.

Games that are targeting 1080p 30fps on XB1 will be 1080p 60fps on PS4 (TR).

Games that are targeting 1080p 60fps on PS4 will be 720p 60fps on XB1 (CoD).

Games that are targeting 1080p 30fps on PS4 will be 900p 30fps on XB1 (ACIV).

Games targeting 1080p 30fps on both consoles will have less special effects on the XB1 version (NFS).

I'm curious to see if this holds up.

Good summary. I think few people expected such a performance gap just looking at the raw specs.

More than ever, the X1 has to get some great exclusives if it even wants to compete in the US.

And here I thought the action from last year was going to calm down once the consoles launched.
In Tier 1 countries.

Wasn't the first gen 7 Madden a similar situation? 60v30?

No doubt, the differences between 360 & PS3 versions of multiplats weren't even huge to begin with, with some exceptions like Bayonetta, which you just mentioned. And it's funny, because many Xbox fanboys believed that the 360 was very powerful due to that alone, but where it really counts at is the exclusives, as that determines if your console is truly powerful, & the PS3's 1st/2nd party titles outshines just about every 360 game graphically, which proved that the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. It's just that the PS3 versions of multiplats were handicapped thanks to the cell processor which was difficult for 3rd party developers to work on.

PS4 & Xbox One aren't exactly like 360 & PS3 in which it was just a wash between each other in hardware & in specs, even with 360 having a better GPU & PS3 having a better CPU.

Let's forget GPGPU and remember:

Sure...why not.
I don't know what that should tell me about the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition that was supposed to run at 20-25 fps.

Is there explanatory power in that image that would shed light on this game?
