  • Details;
    • Developer: Roll7
    • Platform: PS VITA
    • Release Date: OUT NOW!
    • Price: $12.99/£7.99 ($9.99/£6.39 with PS+)

*NOTE - some users are currently experiencing a crashing bug that Roll7 are aware of and are working on fixing, but in the meantime try putting the Vita into airplane mode, as the problem is said to be to do with WiFi popups.

  • Game Description;
OlliOlli mixes addictive one-life gameplay with over 120 tricks and grinds across 50 deviously crafted levels, 250 Challenges, Spots Mode and Daily Grind. Not enough for you? Complete all challenges to unlock the super skillful RAD Mode!

Rack up the biggest and coolest combos along the way then time your landing to perfection to rule the leader-boards. Just don’t slam on your face (you will slam on your face).

OlliOlli will reward the most skillful and riskiest players, always tempting you to go for that for that audacious 360 backside flip and ludicrous chain of combos leaving you to time your landing to perfection - or risk losing your score!

The whole game is hand drawn in pixelly loveliness, which is no mean feat considering the game contains over 120 tricks as well as grinds, slams and five different stages.

People were asking for an OT in the reviews thread, so I whipped this up. Enjoying the game immensely at present, the gameplay is ridiculously addictive. They've nailed that "just one more run" feeling that makes it real hard to put down. Well worth the asking price, I'd say.

Great OT!

I was a little shocked at how bad I was at it when I first played the game but now I can't put it down! Great and insanely addicting.

Bought the game but haven't played it yet. Sounds like something I'm going to enjoy though.

Good job putting the OT together.

I'm so tempted to pick this up while + discounted, BUT I don't know when I would find the time to play, far too many good looking games out there, and work gets in the way!

Holy crap! That looks awesome, and the fact that Jeff Gertsman gave this game the thumbs up, Im going to buy ASAP!!

I think I may have to give in and buy a 32GB card for my Vita!!

Kinda waiting for the crashing patch to come along, cause it happens quite frequently with me. =(

Still, the small amount I did play, I enjoyed a lot.

Sweet, I look forward to reading some tips from you crazy cats. I only got to play about half an hour last night so I'm still firmly in the 'crap at it' phase, but man do I want to play more. It's definitely got that 'one more go' thing going on.

I must be quite lucky, it hasn't crashed once on me yet. Hopefully they can get the patch out soon for those affected. Also, proper leaderboards would be nice and are hopefully on the horizon.

Hotline Miami, in what way exactly?

I probably shouldn't have used that description, but I couldn't think of a better title and a fair few reviewers have used the comparison - I'd say it's like Hotline in terms of the retro styling but, more importantly, in the way the gameplay remains punishing and compelling at the same time and keeps you coming back over and over. It bears no resemblance to Hotline in gameplay mechanics, obviously, but it was the closest comparison I could think of without just titling the thread '2d side scrolling arcade skater', or some such.

Thanks for the OT! The game definately deserves one.

I bought the game yesterday and had lots of fun (and crashing). Can't wait to dive in again tonight.

this game should have a subtitle..

"We fuck with your mind by having you press X to land, not X to jump"..

and it´s fucking great once you get the hang of it..

Thanks for doing an OT, as many people as possible need to get exposed to this game. Haven't been able to put it down since yesterday, it's the "one more go" mentality perfected.

"Tony Hawk meets Canabalt" is probably a better description.

Only played a couple of stages but I really like it so far. It definitely takes a little time to get used to the analog trick system.

Really enjoying it so far. Took me a while to get the basics down but it's a blast with a little practise. Hopefully the crashing is sorted out soon. I had two straight away during the tutorials but nothing since so far.

Don't know why I bought this because I have very little space in my currently playing list. I guess I just wanted to support a indie exclusive on the vita looks really nice so far the backgrounds are great.

Can we in general just stop with "X meets Y" comparisons? It's just a crutch when one can't think of a better way to describe a game.

Great OT for a fantastic game! It is insanely addictive. About to finish all the Pro challenges and planning to tackle Rad mode. My left thumb may need a little break from video games after this.

I don't know, I think Tony Hawk meets Canabalt is pretty apt with this game.

Super addictive. The crashing bug is irritating but I keep reloading so that says something for it. Very strong early entry for Indie Game of the Year.

Canabalt x Hotline Miami x Tony Hawk seems accurate.

Really enjoying this and I'm at work but desperate to bust out my Vita in my bag for some runs. It was far, far harder than I was expecting to start out - the controls are so different to a lot of games that it takes some getting used to - but after an hour or so I'm busting out grinds and tricks no problem.

Getting a full end-to-end stage run feels so good, and it's nailed that rhythm-action game style 'just-nailed-it' feeling to landing tricks.

I think, with leaderboards, this would be perfect, and they're going to look into adding those, so we'll see. But for £6, definitely worth it.

Same here. It's been crashin non stop on 1-5 for me. Tried toggling wifi off as suggested with no help.

I've yet to experience any crashes at all. Lucky I guess.

So I guess the secret to tricking off grinds is just to tap a direction to start the grind, rather than holding it. I don't know if my brain can handle that.

This looks so refreshing and kind of awesome to me :). Modern day pixel art often doesn't work for me, but i REALLY like this.

Only crashed once for me during my first boot-up. Hasn't happened since and i've sunk many hours into it so far.

Hmm didn't know you could tap to grind. I always hold the direction since it feels more natural. Tapping would probably throw off my rhythm.

I've been playing Velocity Ultra lately but I think I'll pick this up tonight. One of the devs said they're working on a patch (re: some crash complaints).

Can someone help me with the grinding? Do certain types of grinds give you more points or is it just a visual thing? I'm always mixing up the types of grinds I do but I have no idea if I should actually be doing this. Is there a certain grind that gives the most amount of points that I should just stick to?

Really liking this, addictive as crack.

Regarding the title, I tweeted them yesterday saying that I got a Hotline Miami vibe from it, as in it was hard to get used to it at first but when it clicks it really clicks and you just want to have one more go, then another, then another till you beat which ever bit your on, also the soundtrack made me think of HM instantly for some reason. They replied that was what they were going for

It is a very addictive game! I love the way they integrated several challenges into the levels, some of which encourage you to become a better player by trying new techniques.

Awesome, definitely felt that myself too. Been pretty hooked on this, first hour or two was tough adapting to the way it plays! Really rewarding gameplay now though.

Yeah, if you just tap it, then the stick is freed up to line up a trick to exit the grind. I tried it last night, but my brain just wants to hold it. Managed it a couple of times, but maintaining perfect grinds was a nightmare.

I found that using L or R whilst grinding seemed to generate higher scores. This was very noticeable when I was trying to get to grips with the combo challenges early in the game.
