Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

If outlines are "disabled" how come the characters still have their outlines? Unless there are specific checkmarks on what is outlined and what isn't, I'm pretty sure all the pictures I posted had their characters outlined.

I'm not arguing anything though hahah it was just an observation.

Edit:

Yes they do.
Sakurai said the outlines are "mushy" which, looking at those pics, would seem to suggest there is no outline where a strong contrast is already established. Look at Pit's wings and the bright white parts of his clothing. The outline is not there as opposed to darker parts like his legs and hair. As for the Marth pic, the sword doesn't seem much brighter than Link's but it is massive as it is so close to the camera, so an outline probably isn't needed, especially if it is 3D.

With this in mind, I see some issues with the leaks.

Why does the blue weapon have a blue outline between it and the blue background? Why is her bright skin given an outline when it is already heavily contrasted from the background?

Why is there so much varying thickness in outlines comparing her to Mario, given that their contrast levels are similar?

This doesn't match the more black-looking style we have seen in the outlines, yet does show a possibility that Mario and Palutena were separate assets photoshopped in after being edited to have an outline, and Palutena was shrunk down a bit compared to Mario.

They were definitely displayed on a 3DS screen and photographed, but I'm not sure it was the game playing rather than a photoshop they loaded on to the 3DS.

Must hurt even more to learn it was actually a Twitter thing first

Add that in too. I dont have an account (that is decently maintained in twitters case) on either

So has the punishment for losing team been officially decided? Or do we create another vote, with more of the evil symbol. It wasn't always so. It once represented number. Now that nice symbol has been corrupted

1) The outlines have a transparency to them and can be thickened, so you're seeing transparency.

2) You can alter each character's outlines.

3) Outlines are applied regardless if the character is super bright and already easy to notice.

If you watch the Smash Direct, the angle of Mario shows a nearly smoothed out hat, so it could be that.

Or, they're touching up models?

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
Santa Claus leaked the Palutena pictures. The Unicorns told me so.

Also, why is Mario not looking at her? Character tracking is pretty basic technology these days.

Eye tracking or a well timed sceenshot?

Of course this is a Wii U screenshot so even if it is proof of eye tracking it could be one of those elements removed from the 3DS version to save on resources and because the characters will be smaller on the screen. I mean a quick butchers at 3DS screens doesn't really reveal anything in regards to that.

I do image editing myself. I know the difference between a transparent black shadow over a blue background and a transparent blue shadow.

This does not explain variance, which I was talking about, not just general relative thickness.

Please explain the Pit screens.

Well-timed screenshot. Luigi looks down when pulling his nose during his idle animation.

That's what I thought.

This picture of fox just has him looking forward into space so it's pretty safe to say the eyes don't hide any secrets.

One thing I was curious about personally was if the 3DS version lacked the expressions of the Wii U version, but this Mario shot shows that the faces are not static.

So yeah, my thoughts on Palutena's expression, or one should say lack of, goes unchanged.

Why do her fingers look more slender and well modeled in the pic with Mario?

No one can fashion any reasonable fraudulent excuse here.

Reasonable explanation: someone who pays a lot of attention to the daily images with significant skills took Palutena's Brawl model and touched it up to make the internet go into a tizzy.

"Looks super real" is hardly the best way to determine this kind of thing.

Lots of people have come up with many reasons why this image isn't without fault. If you accept the reasoning is another matter, but you can't claim none of it is reasonable.

You'll have to try to find it on the archive site. Threads on /v/ disappear fast.

Ah ok. I'm not too familiar with 4chan and /v/ but thought that if it got taken down relatively quickly then it had to be some sort of leak.

Still #TeamFake even with these recent comparisons. The zoomed in pic, the stance, it just all seems unofficial to me. If there is one sure comparison I'll jump ship, but for now nope.

But then where did the Mario image come from? Or did they make it themselves too?

I'm not saying it's definitely real, but I think it looking "super real" is an important factor to consider. Without it looking fake, or having elements from images we've seen in the past, the only other way to speculate on this image is to literally wait until Sakurai confirms or denies it himself (which is a lot less fun than talking about it now)

Actually, the Mario is the main reason why I'm not throwing my hat into any ring. The colors look really off, and the outline's thickness is a bit more inconsistent than what we've seen from anything else. It almost looks like someone took a pose from a Wii U screenshot and altered it to fit in better.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
These look totally fake. Every 3DS game looks like it needs massive anti-aliasing (especially Kid Icarus: Uprising, which was the company's last game), but these screenshots look smooth and crisp.

Plus, every rumor that makes a Nintendo game sound good is probably a hoax.

Here's the thing.

3DS SCREENSHOTS look terrible on a non-native screen. All that anti-aliasing is not so visible on an actual 3DS screen, let alone a PICTURE of a 3DS screen. That can't be used as argument.

Edit: Also Namco is codeveloping this game, not just SORA Ltd. There are huge differences in the graphics. Just look at their hands in official screenshots, versus Uprising models. uprising hands are clunky looking, but the models in SSB4 look great so far.

Just read the pages that I have missed for the past 2 days.....man what a wild ride. Sad I missed out on it.

Let me join in on the fun, I have a strong gut feeling its true.....so sign me up for #teamreal

Sakurai seems to be having fun with his fans I think.

The outlines make all of these models look incredibly smooth.

Aliasing is there, too.
