I'm of the opinion of Sakurai I need my character fix.
So yeah, the sooner it's proved true or false, the better.
If I had to guess, GAF might be cracking down on "would not bang" jokes because they have the potential to be used in ways demeaning to people (I.E. a comment about a female gaming journalist's physical characteristics, etc). But I didn't see any announcements about this rule so I'm not sure if that was the reason Prodigy was banned.
That's... actually a good point. Can we get some comparisons here.

Ah, OK. Like I said, I knew it was explained somewhere, but in a thread this huge, if you don't follow it each day, it's kind of hard to pick up on the context. I figured it might've had something to do with how female journalists are treated whenever they write something controversial and someone makes a mean-spirited remark about their looks when their pic is inevitably posted.

You guys, it this is real, part of me is starting to really feel like this is an intentional leak to generate hype. It would make too much sense.
It would explain that:
1. It's an image of only the top screen.
2. They look like PR images
A real leaker would probably post a lot more unless he's doing a drip drop leak, or if he just wants to reveal something small so the whole game isn't spoiled. An intentional leak would make a lot of sense in this case.
EDIT: those hand positions are in different places. Mario on the right has more of his palm showing, their fingers look almost about the same size.

Hype for what? If they wanted to create hype they could just post Palutena on the official site. Only the diehards care about these leaked images. If it was an official announcement we'd make a new thread for new news and all the more casual followers of this game would be aware of it.

Mario's arm is farther back in the leaked shot, it looks like. Would explain the difference in the size of the hand. Probably occurs when Mario is swaying back and forth while bouncing in place during his idle animation. Alternatively, if it's real, the leaker might've figured people are only interested in the character and so he took the best possible pic of the character, which meant booting her up in a stage with a non-aggressive CPU, pausing her in her idle animation (where she can be seen clearest), and only photographing the top screen (because that's where she's at). The leaker also might've had to do it quick, before someone else returned to the room, so he kept it simple and to the point.
Hahaha, I remember Snake but I didn't see the Mario, Link and Sonic before. XDI totally got a leaked screenshot of the game, you guys!

Model is smoother... overalls buttons are larger and the straps stretch down further...colors are more saturated. Sideburns are shorter, 'stache is darker... and yep. His hands are definitely smaller.

Actually, this strong change in Mario's appearance on the "leaked" image seems to imply that more development has been done on the character models, thus... Mario's looking a lot better. Uh oh... I think I'm leaning towards TeamReal...

I don't see them posting a newcomer without a trailer. I don't see them posting a trailer without having a direct associated with it. A direct probably isn't due for another couple of weeks.
Why have some of the posts that Sakurai have made, not been very clear? The New Leaf stage. The first Galaxy stage picture with ONLY Kirby. They are teases, that's the point. An intentional leak to generate talk is a different form of a tease if intentional.
If it's not for hype, it's to get people talking. You then reveal the character, and then people have talked about the game twice as much over the same piece of news.

The discussion isn't interesting at all for this leak. The Rosalina reveal trailer had interesting discussion with people not trying to make a "war" out of it and had people speculating.
At least this isn't like Pokemon leaks where it makes or breaks people lol.

If it was intentional, I don't think the point of it was to make it to news outlets, but for community discussion. A simple character reveal, like Rosalina, has a day of celebration, new articles, and discussion, and then it withers. A "leak" has more controversy, attempts to prove/disprove, a waiting game of finding out the truth, and overall leads to more conversations about the game.

I don't think we've seen any assist trophies for the 3DS, but yeah that does makes sense. Still skeptical on this leak but I really can't explain why...

Ridley is by far and away the Nintendo character who would generate the most hype. The sheer legacy factor of gamers campaigning for his inclusion or debating whether he's even feasible would imbue such a reveal with so much meaning.
I would normally dismiss the idea of an intentional Nintendo leak, but in this case consider the facts: Palutena was the only character leaked, and she also happens to be the most expected newcomer. The stage was Battlefield. She was posed with Mario. The preciseness of the leak is remarkable; it doesn't give away anything truly surprising and seems almost designed to reveal as little as possible while still causing a stir.
Only in the west though.
