Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Before we reach levels of hype and insanity in a couple of hours, how about we discuss the touch screen and what could be put on there. I'm sure the HP percentage can be toggled on/off between the two screens since looking back and forth between screens could prove lethal in some meta-games.

For sure they'll put the time counter on there. Maybe a zoomed out stage portrait with colored markers showing where everyone is. For sure character portraits. Camera controls when you pause. Maybe a Pokeball, Assist Trophy, or other Item pop up showing an information blurb when you pick it up telling you how each item works. Would a move list be really necessary? Oh yeah... Taunts!

Well on 3DS, I definitely expect 100% of the HUD elements to go down there. No need to be cluttering up an already small screen. The GamePad screen is harder to predict. I don't think the HUD will go there as it wouldn't make any sense for multiplayer games, which is SSB's bread and butter. Might do absolutely nothing during matches, but I expect it will be used extensively in extra modes like the trophy collection and stage editor. Maybe there will be a "5th player" mode where whoever has the GamePad will be able to affect the game in some manner, like by dropping items.

Including every possible control option is pretty much a Sakurai staple at this point.

How about the 3DS as a controller? I really want that, especially since I don't have a Wii U, and wouldn't want to have to relearn the controls when playing on a console. It makes too much sense, really, but I think I read previously that it's unlikely. :(

I don't think a 3DS -> WiiU connection would have good enough latency for that. But I dunno.

Hmm, that Mario's got me firm in #TeamSwitzerland
We'll see where the shrapnel lands.

Also, I completely missed that warning about the waifus. It's not my type of joke anyway, but I still coulda been the one to catch that bullet o_o"

Then I wouldn't be around for when Sakurai reveals the stage where you fight on Ridley's back tomorrow

This week has been pretty good for Smash, in pics at least! SmashGAF has been a totally different story lol. Tonight's disappointing pic won't be too disappointing considering we actually got gameplay information this week =)

Tonight's picture will be a 3DS shot of Palutena, Hades and Medusa, all of which will have no outlines right next to Pit, who also has no outlines. The caption:

"You can enable, disable, and even change intensity of the outlines prevalent on 3DS fighters in the Options menu."
