Satya Nadella is Microsoft's new CEO

Elop is probably gonna try to bring MS hardware to profitabilty levels.

I expect MS to price more agressively and abandon their "match Apple's build quality" to pursue a broader market of electronic devices.

Never heard of him before. Should be interesting to see where he goes with this.

Also, if Elop is in charge of devices which oversees Xbox, well...The cruise was nice while it avoided icebergs.

Wait, I thought Julie Larson was in charge of the Xbox division. Am I wrong?

Sounds like a Japanese or Chinese name but he looks American

Elop, you say? Xbox is on its last leg...

At least we won't have to worry about an Xbox breaking under him. No matter what height it is dropped from.

Interesting pick on the CEO, but it by far makes the most sense. MS is going heavy cloud and he is the right man to helm it.

With regards to Elop on Xbox, I really don't see how this will change much. The Xbox One was designed to work within the Windows family and they view it as their most successful consumer hardware product. The hope is to use it as the Trojan Horse to get everything into their family of products. Elop won't change that and the new CEO further proves MS' direction.

Just so everyone understand the situation :
The guy who allegedly said he would get rid of the Xbox division and all the devices is now in charge of the Xbox division.
That's the same guy that put Nokia in a situation dire enough that they couldn't do anything but sell themselves to Microsoft.

That was before the Nokia aquisition.

So who here thinks MS will let the xbox die in the next 3 years?

Yeah I think the bigger news here is Elop is Xbox head now. :/

It's three divisions, though, and under Julie Larson it seemed like Phil Spencer was more powerful in the Xbox division (maybe not behind the scenes, though?), so who knows what will happen. At least Elop isn't CEO.

As I've said before, Elop might've trashed Nokia's market share but the Lumia line are great products

So the guy who wanted to be rid of the Xbox division is now in charge of the Xbox division.

What could go wrong?

I feel like the thread title is burying the lead here, Elop being in charge of Xbox is way more interesting from a gaming perspective than Nadella being CEO.

Can't wait to see Elop at E3. Should be good times.

Only if it doesn't perform well. Where perhaps under Balmer's lead they might have stuck with it and tried again next gen, I can see these guys cutting the cords all together when it comes down to it.

Why are we even on the topic of the CEO's name? I'm more concerned about Elop being head of the Xbox, surface, and other devices department. :( I hope things don't go bad :(..

lol Elop was like

"you will never get rid of me... watch out Xbox I am still coming for you"

but anyway Nadella being the CEO makes the disc free XO more plausible in the future

"Ok Elop, you'll have to manage the dog"

"Then I kill the dog! Job's done!"

Uhm... makes no sense right?

Looked up old pics of Mr. Nadella and dude got in shape! We need more sexy CEOs so I support this move. He looks better than Mr. Elop as well as the ex-CEO of Ford, so I support his appointment. Looks are all that matter.

Elop's done some amazing things with Windows Phones in spite of Nokia's already sinking ship (he didn't torpedo the company guys)... but he did say previously that he would get rid of the XBOX division so... it's a toss up.

the "worst" thing that can happen to XBOX is to become a service accessible through MS varied hardware plateforms.

and that won't happen neither tomorrow nor the day after.

But Nadella is a huge believer in Xbox right? So what can Elop do apart from sabotaging the Xbox - which im sure he cant do.

Best choice they could have made. And Elop will be good for the Xbox group, not sure why he's getting crapped on on Gaf.
