748,367 steps - 198:11 over 33 titles

Picross 3D round 2 - 75:16
Dragon Quest VII 31:17
Dragon Quest VI 25:29
Pokemon Picross 15:35
PW:Ace Attorney Trilogy 13:32

I played both and Rune Factory compares very favorably - I totally agree that Story of Seasons felt like a slow slog, especially comparing it with Rune Factory 4. The farming is a lot lighter though, but you should really try it if you felt the way you described about Story of Seasons. It has much more stuff to do and is super entertaining - I couldn't put it down once I started.
Story of Seasons was very overwhelming at first - I hadn't played any of the more recent Harvest Moons and had no idea how to deal with seed sheds, bee stocks or anything...
Rune Factory starts very basic and then you basically can decide how deep you want to dive into any aspect of the game. You can get very complex with the crafting, dungeon crawling or farming - I never ended up fully utilising fertilizers or raising giant vegetables or gold fruit for example, and you don't have to if you don't want to. Same with pet catching and training. But it's all there, and very accessible.
They had 1 sale on it only in EU so far, but it's worth it at full price even digital only.

Another great response, thanks for that! That sounds great to be honest hah I would obviously have preferred they put out a nice physical copy here but I'm not too offended by digital/full price. If it's a good game I'm happy to pay for it. Love threads like these where you consider some of the games people have spent so much time with again. The game was purely out of sight out of mind for me because it's digital only.

Play Time: 187:47 / 15 titles

Top three:

1. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (79:00)
2. Bravely Second (51:05)
3. Bravely Default (27:47)

Rest are sub 10 hours.

For 2016:
Total steps - 535,727
Total titles - 42
Total playtime - 798:23

My top 10:
1) Fire Emblem Fates - 301:00
2) Pokemon Y - 134:55
3) Pokemon Moon - 67:10
4) Tomodachi Life - 46:26
5) Pokemon Blue VC - 45:53
6) Super Smash Bros - 45:16
7) Pokemon Alpha Sapphire - 43:14
8) Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. - 17:12
9) Nintendo Badge Arcade - 16:12
10) Kirby: Planet Robobot - 10:35

..That's a lot of Pokemon!
I bought all three routes digitally for Fates, so 100 hours for each sounds about right. I kinda dropped off after finishing Conquest and Birthright, but I'm finishing up Revelations right now so at the very end of 2016 the counter will probably be even higher.
Making Mii babies was pretty fun in Tomodachi Life, but I'm pretty much done with that since mid-year. Still, those are some impressive hours. Kirby Robobot was really fun, will end up pretty high on my GOTY list, but I never continued after beating the final boss so the total time is relatively short compared to everything else. Those Codename S.T.E.A.M. hours are because of local multiplayer. Turns out that game is hilarious when playing against a friend.
Also I'm pretty sure that Badge Arcade time is because I let my 3DS idle in that game once or twice, lol

Also, since it's probably the last thread, a total tally from 2013 to 2016:
Lifetime steps: 2,462,525
Lifetime titles played: 84
Lifetime playtime: 2556 hours+

Lifetime top 10:
1) Super Smash Bros - 560:28
2) Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 490:15
3) Fire Emblem Fates - 301:00
4) Tomodachi Life - 213:10
5) Fire Emblem Awakening - 195:20
6) Pokemon Y - 164:15
7) Streetpass Mii Plaza - 132:40
8) Pokemon Moon - 67:10
9) Pokemon Alpha Sapphire - 66:07
10) Pokemon Blue - 45:53

I basically got more than plenty out of that little machine. I got on around 2013 when they were releasing Fire Emblem Awakening and bought that together with the European 3DS XL Fire Emblem Special Edition. I didn't get a whole lot of games (a lot of those 84 games are a few minutes of NDS titles), but a lot of the games I did get were totally worth it. Streetpass Mii Plaza got a lot of playtime too. Playing those short games with other people's miis from around town was addictive. Whenever I got home from a day of school/work I'd first check if I got any hits and just spend half an hour on the couch, just relaxing, growing some plants for my virtual garden. In fact, the whole streetpass concept was pretty cool for that reason, especially with the hotspots near trainstations to get people from around the province. I still carry my 3DS with me when going out for that very small chance to get a few hits now that the hotspots have disappeared. I think I will miss that the most when I will come back and replay these games over the years. Maybe the Switch will have a similar feature, but carrying such a bulky device around? I dunno.

So yes, wonderful handheld. But enough reminiscing about the good times, I still have Ever Oasis to look out for in the future! :V

So I finally bought a 2DS in march this year so here are my statistics for it (btw. I love that there are statistics like that. I wish the PS4 had something like that, too)

Total Playtime: 516h

My Top 10 games:
Pokémon Alpha Saphire: 185h
Pokémon Y: 111h
Pokemon Sun: 80h
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D: 36h
Pokémon Picross: 34h
The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds: 18h
New Super Mario Bros. 2: 13h
Pokemon Shuffle: 10h
Harvest Moon (VC): 8h
Pokémon Bank: 2h

Uh so I guess I like Pokémon games it seems

I paid good money for this Dynex!
So... you guys with the monstrous amounts of time played... is the 3DS your primary system? I'm curious if you guys are this hardcore across the board.

Well, my 3DS time played numbers werent nearly that large until Shuffle came around. It's my go-to when waiting in a line, or on the crapper, or sitting around idley watching something. pokemon shuffle operates on a timer, giving you a heart to use to play a stage once every 30 mins, storing up to 5 at which point the timer stops. If you dont use one of those hearts then the timer wont activate again to get you another play. The game gives you regular advancement goals/benchmarks and when you dont have one of those you can farm the game's currency (used for items to boost performance). There's always something to do, and my internal clock sort of always gently reminds me that I should pop open the system and burn a heart or two when I have a moment.

also stages are intriduced that you need 0 hearts to play, just the in game currency. with those you can just play for a bunch of hours consecutively if youve got the currency stacked. I played more games on Wii U this year between myself and my friends, but not as regularly as the 3DS. Between shuffle, streetpassing, and the badge arcade I had a daily batch of games to hit up. also picross, in its 2D or 3D form is a godly puzzle game

I've had my 3DS off for a good year and a half before playing Pokemon Sun.

Steps: 984,401

8. Azure Striker Gunvolt - 6:02
9. Rhythm Thief - 5:47
10. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - 3:11

Really damn great year for me and my 3DS. Considering this is its last full year before the Switch comes out, I'm pretty happy with how much I managed to get out of it. Six whole visual novels representing two complete trilogies (one of which, ZE, I was completely new to), an amazing Pokemon game, a great Kirby game, and an excellent collection of classic Sega games - many of which I've never played before and are now up there among my all-time favourites. My 3DS was basically a machine for those top 7 games.

I'm going to miss having it as my only handheld, but I still have some games left to blaze through, and plenty that I'll be coming back to again and again, so here's to a few more years of this great system.

I'd love to do my top-played games of all time but would need to dig out my old, OOT 3DS from 2011 to check. I replaced it with a New XL last year, but still have it lying around.

So... you guys with the monstrous amounts of time played... is the 3DS your primary system? I'm curious if you guys are this hardcore across the board.

Most of my playtime this year was split across 3DS, PS2, and PS4.

So... you guys with the monstrous amounts of time played... is the 3DS your primary system? I'm curious if you guys are this hardcore across the board.

Since I don't know my Playtime of my PS4 I can't really tell but I played a lot with my 2DS but I also just got it new. I think this year I will play more with my PS4 again.
But there is still a lot on the 2DS I want to play and try out.

1. Monster Hunter Generations - 174:28
2. Dragon Quest VII - 93:45
3. Fire Emblem Fates - 70:00

5. Monster Hunter U - 24:31

7. Zelda MM 3D - 18:14
8. Link's Awakening DX - 8:13
9. Rhythm Paradise MEgamix - 7:09
10. SMTIV - 2:16

Yeesh. And I only played FE: Birthright out of the 3 games...

It's time.

1,121,498 steps (1,078,352 in 2015)

60 titles / 1391:08 (46 titles / 1229:42 in 2015)

3) Fire Emblem Fates - 201:49

14) The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask - 20:25
15) StreetPass Mii Plaza - 18:49
16) Kirby Planet Robobot - 18:33

Also I'm 3DS and PC only.
3DS has a slight edge, but only because I can't take my PC outside.

A comparatively slight year next to my records for 2014 (400:12) and 2015 (223:42), as I've hardly touched the 3DS since March, when after a month of playing nothing but my all-in-one cartridge of Fire Emblem Fates (without coming anywhere close to being finished with it) I took a break and just haven't found the time to go back.

Total: 17 titles / 182:19

1. Fire Emblem Fates — 120:46
2. Fire Emblem Awakening — 21:58
3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D — 14:31
4. BOXBOY! — 8:11
5. Bravely Second Demo — 6:00

Awakening and Majora's Mask, obviously, were continuations of existing files from previous years. And I did in fact purchase Bravely Second on the strength of the demo, but haven't found the time to dive into it, with Fates still taking up permanent residence in my system and a few things I want to wrap up in my Bravely Default file from 2014 before I proceed.

To give you a sense of perspective, 128:49 of the hours I logged were in February alone. Fates now sits at third on my all-time list after Awakening (224:02) and Animal Crossing: New Leaf (218:42), both of which it will likely surpass given the amount of content still ahead of me.

Welp GAF, just when I thought I was out, Nintendo pulls me back in. In the span of the last week I purchased:

Kirby Planet Robobot
SMT4 Apocalypse
Bravely Second.

3DS will definitely be seeing more action in 2017 than it did in 2016. Happy New Years everyone!

So... you guys with the monstrous amounts of time played... is the 3DS your primary system? I'm curious if you guys are this hardcore across the board.

well... I got a PC and a WiiU too, but the 3DS is definitly the go-to gaming device for me (and has been for the last ~5 years). But, since I had to write 3 thesis this year, my playtime was cut short significantly :(

I own a pal and a jp 3ds, my statistics are split

JP 3DS:

1999 Steps

5. If I were in a sealed room with a girl I'd probably do XXX 16:34 (finally got around playing it <3)
6. Dragonquest 8 12:32
7. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks 10:53

(went for a top 7 since #1 and #4 were exclusively played by my gf)

PAL 3DS:

485:30 Hours across 39 titles

1. Dragon Quest 7 78:21
2. Persona Q 73:59

(again top 6 since #4 wasn't played by me)

From 2012 to 2015 the 3DS was my primary system. Once I finished Fire Emblem Fates last May though, I bought a Vita to play Danganronpa which I had my eye on for a while. After finishing that, I started to look at what else was on the system (i.e., Persona) + what else I could get for PS4 since I bought it in 2014 for GTA5 but didn't use it for anything else since then. After discovering remote play with Child of Light and really enjoying Until Dawn, I went all in on PlayStation which I haven't done since the PS2 days. I'm still going to play Stella Glow but that will likely be the last new game I play on the 3DS unless I have time to replay Fantasy Life or one of the Professor Layton games again in the future.

[Edit] just noticed I'm no longer a Junior. Took 2.5 years. Feels good!

Oh god, don't make me choose o_O

Fantasy Life would be super high up there honestly, if we are talking stuff developed for the 3DS, I'd been following that thing ever since it was originally shown as a DS game way back when. I just loved the freedom it gave you and had soo much fun exploring the world and making new stuff. It was exactly what I wanted from a game like that.

Either that maybe Etrian Mystery Dungeon which is one I think I'll be in love with forever. Heck most of the Etrian series on the 3DS has had me hooked. And SMT IV.

Also Apparently I should of had Bravely Default on there as that came in at 95 hours but its not showing up on the main list for some reason :/

Ah okay. Totally agree on Fantasy Life. That game hit all the right buttons and was full of charm. I guess that's what made the announcement of the franchise going mobile only all the more devastating. *sigh*

Etrian games are super fun and Shin Megami Tensei IV was surprisingly awesome. I never played a SMT game before that but gave it a chance due to the $30 off promo it had for purchasing Fire Emblem Awakening. Fantastic game!

Bravely Default gets a lot of praise for some aspects of it but the grind and the terrible characters killed my enthusiasm and I gave up 10 hours in. Didn't bother with the sequel.

Top 5 games:
1. Pokemon Sun - 81:24
2. Bravely Default - 74:59
3. Triforce Heroes - 10:42
4. Streetpass - 7:24
5. Pokemon AS - 6:54

i'm actually shocked how little 3ds i played this year. really need to play less Dota...
This is why my 3ds backlog is so full, I still havent finished bravely default (on the last chapter) and have been meaning to restart Etrian Odyssey IV and SMT4 since i abandoned my playthroughs of them in 2013. And I still haven't even opened Fire Emblem Awakening nor Fates...

at least i can blame my roommates for my lack of progress in triforce heroes (i refuse to touch the singleplayer mode)

So... you guys with the monstrous amounts of time played... is the 3DS your primary system? I'm curious if you guys are this hardcore across the board.
I almost exclusively play on portables (my gaming time is my commute), with time split between a 3DS and a Vita. Monster Hunter massively skews it towards the 3DS though.

I play a tiny bit with a WiiU at home but only really to dabble in Mario Kart when my friends come over. Or if my wife is up for the odd race once the baby is asleep and we aren't both shattered. Doesn't happen often any more, can't remember the last time I played a game on the telly.

Love the 3DS, it's my favorite system.

601:38 hours

1. Fire Emblem Fates 302:58
2. Bravely Second 85:33
3. Pokémon Moon 61:44
4. Ace Attorney Spirit of justice 44:16
5. Stella Glow 27:45
6. Triforce Heroes 27:24
7. Story of Seasons 13:48
8. Animal Crossing New Leaf 10:33
9. Bravely Second demo 7:36 ( those demos are meaty, dang)
10. StreetPass Mii Plaza 3:35 (lol)

I was wondering why Stella Glow was so low. It's because I played it 77 hours in 2015 even though I got it in December. Oops...

I actually played my 3DS way more than in 2015.
