Or roughly what the 5970 costs now. How much did you pay for your 4870x2 anyway?jambo said:$400 means it'll be something like $700 in Australia.
Sigh
XFX is the only company is the business that offers a double lifetime warranty. You get a lifetime warranty, and if you sell it to a friend, they'll have a lifetime warranty also. It's rare enough to find a company these days that even does lifetime warranties at all these days, let alone 2, if these kinds of things matter to you.DaBuddaDa said:I always buy XFX cards, but their 6870 is $40 more expensive for some reason. Anyways, I was considering a GTX460 prior to these benches being released (and I prefer Nvidia anyways in terms of drivers and a company in general), but I'm not sure there are many other big selling points for me anymore.
I haven't owned an ATI (AMD) card before, so can someone tell me the equivalent software of MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner?

Some sites are actually using 460 OC models to bench against the stock HD6800.

What's embarrassing is that some sites took NVIDIA suggestion and actively tested the GTX 460 OCs against the HD 6800 series without providing OC HD 6800 results for comparison.
I will be extremely surprised if the 6990 comes out for anything less than 900 in this countryjambo said:$400 means it'll be something like $700 in Australia.

Pretty much the same position I'm in. Really depends on how much I can find a 6870 for.dLMN8R said:Oh man, this is tough.
Do I want to spend the $180 on the 6850 to upgrade from my 512MB 4870? (the 512MB is killing me at 1920x1200)
Do I want to spend more for the 6870? Or maybe get the GTX 460 "FTW" model so I can get PhysX acceleration in there too?
Decisions decisions...
Go for the 6850. It has voltage tweaks and clocks pretty well. Not as well a 460, but darn well enough to justify buying it.dLMN8R said:Oh man, this is tough.

If PhysX is important, get the 460 1GB (normal model) and overclock it and volt it yourself.
I think putting the 460 OC version in there is a reminded of just how much of a beast the 460 can clock. Anandtech included it and it really shows how thin the margins of performance are between 5 models of cards.
Anything above $200 just doesn't offer good return on your money.
Overall I'm pleased with the $180 price point AMD has slotted the 6850 into. It's a damn good deal and the small die size and efficiency is great to everyone. The 6870 at $240 is the product of the GTX 470 pricing, I'd have liked to see it at $220, expected $230. My guess is that it will go down to $230 within a month or get some kind of bonus on purchase.
900-950Mhz on the core, 4400Mhz on memory.dLMN8R said:In the end, the $50 price difference is pretty significant at this low range. I think I'll wait for the cards to show up on Amazon so I can use my Prime subscription for free shipping, then order a 6850
27.8% price increase for 10-15% performance increase just doesn't make sense, and as an owner of a 4870, I haven't missed PhysX support so far. Besides, since PhysX kills performance, I probably wouldn't use it anyway even with a GTX 460.
[edit]What you said :lol
Are there any good looks into how the 6850 overclocks? I'm sure they're linked here but I'm looking for the best report. So far I've only read AnandTech's review, and they didn't cover overclocking yet.
More impressive is the 33% smaller die size combined with the wattage.Mrbob said:I have a GTX 470, so I don't need an upgrade anytime soon but I'm still really impressed with how ATI gets such high performance out of low wattage. Even if the 6000 series doesn't blow away the 5000 (it can't since its on the same process), the fact that everything is improved and running at lower wattage is still very impressive. ATI will continue to dominate the OEM market because of this, getting these chips into a ton of different manufacturer builds.

Already selling for close to the £130 mark:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/244431
The cheapest GTX 460 768MBs are around £125 and you'll be at least £150 for the 1GB version so in the UK, so its a no brainer to go with a 6850 here, unlike the US.
JADS said:Small performance hit? Oh wow, so wrong wording on slide? I thought it would have the same performance as the Edge Detect filter. That would have been terrible. I hope it's not that blurry otherwise it's time to sell the old 5850.
Edit: meh
"With morphological AA enabled, we fired up Battlefield Bad Company 2. The post-processing filter didnt seem to make any difference at all. Careful checking verified that, indeed, it does not seem to work with this title. So much for automatic compatibility with all DirectX 9 to 11 games." <- I hope that some custom profiles can remedy that.
