Any gun owners lurking...

I grew up around gun and have shot them a bunch over the years but I don't really know about them. I have been wanting to get one to keep at home, shoot for fun out in the country and to get a concealed carry possibly. I don't want to spend a bunch but don't want some pos, what are some good recommendations?

For people interested in an AR, this has great features for a ridiculous price:

^^that. I'm also a fan of Beretta's like this one http://www.beretta.com/en-us/92-fs/

I was wondering if anyone in here as any experience with a Norinco M14? Specifically the 7.62X39 version.

I know this is primarily a US board and you guys have a ban on Chinese arms but I'll throw it out there anyhow.

Like I said on the last page, I don't know much about ARs, but I had kind of settled on getting the Ruger AR 556 later this fall. Looks like the MPR version has the Magpul grip and stock, the free floating handguard, and the elite trigger, with an 18" barrel instead of a 16".
So now I'm a little conflicted because I'd planned on getting Hogue grip, stock, and free floating handguard because I really like the texture and ergonomics of Hogue's products. So the Magpul grip and stock doesn't do much for me. And I could probably get the standard AR 556 for about $100 less, but it looks like Ruger's elite trigger is $150 on their website. I suppose I should go ahead and go with the MPR, consider the extra money a pre-installed trigger upgrade and toss the pieces I don't use in the parts bin.

Finally got my $75 rebate from Smith and Wesson.

Nice, waiting on my Walther $100, will probably be a few weeks.

Got my $100 rebate from Walther about a week ago. Also picked up a holster for my PPQ:

A DeSantis speed scabbard designed for the 4" model, but works well with my 5". Don't really plan on carrying the PPQ around but nice to have a holster for it in case I ever decide to.

Took my PPSh-41 out for the first time in almost a year. Took it to the range and ran through almost 1,000 rounds in 30 minutes. It's over 70 years old and still fires as if it was brand new. I tell ya, the Soviets knew how to make weapons that can take a beating and last.

Thinking about picking up a mosin nagant. Anyone can offer up their experience with the rifle? The part I like the most about the rifle so far is the ammo. 7.62x54r is beast of a round.

Can't offer any advice. All I own is a .22 rifle. In the market for a Mossberg 500 right now. Hoping to get one before hunting season is over.

I need some advice guys. So I'm almost done building my first AR-15 and I ran into a bit of an issue.... I bought a Hera CQR stock and cross armory's rear quick pin release system and fixed mag release system. The quick rear release pins and the end plate make It now too thick to align perfectly and now the grip dosen't align with the safety spring and detent hole or grip screw hole. It fits perfectly if i remove the end plate though.
So what's the best way to go about it? can I just not use the end plate or would it cause problems? Are there thinner end plates I could try using? I'd like to keep the cross armory parts as they were really expensive. Sorry if some of this makes no sense lol. Living in CA sometimes sucks... Also I don't need the spring and detent for the rear pins with the quick release pins.

Here are some pics
With the end plate on there's a gap

Without end plate and no gap.

It's probably one of those things where the designers simply didn't consider a specific end use with those exact components.

You might reach out to the Hera people and see if they have any suggestions about removing material in certain spots or something.

Well my first gun purchase was an AR15 kit, I got it from palmettostatearmory.com for $299 and then I got the lower from a friend of mine who knows a dealer. So $350 for it isnt bad at all!

I have been looking at handguns and I am leaning towards the S&W Shield 9mm

I do need to order some rear sights, any recommendations that are on amazon?

What are you willing to pay?

Cheap and efficient. Maybe magpul has something. But you got the front sight post on there so that might get in the way of most sights. Hmmmmmmm I’ll look into and get back to you.

Edit : yeah. Without the carry handle. Most sights are not going to work. If you got rid of it, maybe a holographic sight?

I picked this up yesterday, I cant wait to go shoot it! I recently found out in my city the Game and Fish and my town are partnering up to build a 200 acre range that will have all kinds of stuff!

Ok guys I got a hold of cross armory and they're gonna send me an extra quick rear pin release system on the cheap since I can use the one I have as a substitute end plate and because I decided that I'm just going to pin the current one I have to the castle nut. I also don't think I'm switching out the stock ever so it's cool👍 I bought most of the last couple of things I need to finish. I bought an aero complete upper I should get on Friday because they had a 15% off sale. I'm just waiting on a sale on those mbus pro iron sights, also picked up a cheap VG6 Gamma and cage for $80. I'm currently looking for a decent price on 10/30 magazines but they're all expensive compared to the non pinned ones 😑. I'll post pics when I get the upper in. This is the most I've spent on a riffle, the upper I bought cost almost as much as my AK 😥.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Anybody know where I can get Magpul 10 round PMags for a reasonable price? Nobody near me has them for less than $15, and with shipping it's the same if I try to get them online.

Where do you live? And for what caliber? 15 does sounds like a standard for pmags though.

Utah, 5.56. 10 round mags are the same price as 15s most places. I want the 10s because I don't need a bunch of extra shit hanging out of the gun while I'm hunting.

Been busy but finally installed the upper and threw on the extra Bushnell red dot I had laying around. I haven't had the time to Install the Gamma 556 comp. I'm looking around for a deal on the mbus pro sights still but if I might just have this coming paycheck and pay keep. Here's a quick pic I took today. Almost done 😁

How often do you guys practice I really need to practice more
Depends on how accurate you want/need to be, and for what purpose.

I've been skeet shooting once every 5 years, and I can still hit 17/20 or better on the first shot. (I just don't have the time I used to when I was younger.)

With a handgun, if you want tight groupings, you need to practice much more frequently. If you just want to put a round in a body sized target at self-defense ranges, once you're moderately proficient, and familiar with your gun of choice, that doesn't really degrade much.

Nice thread, cant believe i never saw it. I have 5 guns, 2 9mm handguns (Glock 17 and Taurus), an AR-15 (S&W M&P15), a 22 (Colt M4) and a 12 Gauge (Mossberg 500).
Looking to buy a revolver soon.

Unfortunately not enough, I need to do that more. I live in the city so i cant just go to my yard to practice.

Any of youse guys do any precision shooting?

I just ordered a Tikka T3X Varmint in 6.5x55 and will get it in two months or so.
Mainly we shoot competition at 300 meters, but next year I am thinking of joining "fältskytte" (field shooting) which is much more interesting and you get to shoot at longer ranges, up to 650 meters I think.

Looking forward to it.

I took my CZ in .223 to the range today, cold and windy but very fun. Didn't get very good groupings though (0.41 mil at best @ 100 meters, which is bad), with three different ammo (PPU, Fiocchi and Black Hill. I haven't picked up my Norma ammo yet.). I am thinking my Leupold sight might have a problem since I experienced the same groupings with my old Tikka. The Tikka improved a whole lot once I put my Nightforce on it.

I do F Class shooting. 600-1000 yards. I shoot 6.5x284 Norma in a Savage 12F. It’s a hell of a lot of fun. It’s as much a reloading competition as it is a shooting competition. Expensive sport though!

Very nice.

I'd love to be able to shoot at those ranges. I only have access to a 300 meter range though, and the field shooting events.
I haven't started my own reloading though, I have accumulated about 500-600 Norma brass casings so I really need to get on top of that and start reloading. Should save some $$$. :)

Got a TA33 ACOG in for my .300 blackout shorty. The reticle has holdovers for super and subsonic loads. It's pretty sweet.

As far as how often I practice, I try to go at least once a month.

What are some good websites to pick up a Mossberg 500? Had an event happen that kind of kicks me into high gear to get one. Gun show coming up that I'll be at, but don't want to rule out any options.

As for what happened. I live in an area getting steadily worse. Two people gunned down, murdered, down the street of my apartment in 2017. (I've always lived in a rough area up until when I moved here, not as bad as my previous place at least). But recently we've had break ins around the way. Now we had four or five people try breaking into multiple apartments. I've been around long enough to know that hopefully I'm not home if they do kick in the door. But if I am I need a gun. I ain't getting killed over a TV or pocket change. And my rifle wouldn't be as good as a shotgun obviously.

As a bonus, I can drop some ducks with it. Lol.

Nvm, picked one up today. :)

My little old grandma told me she's tired of hearing my uncle complain about me open carrying a Glock 17, so she offered to buy me something small enough to conceal when I visit family. Now I own an LC9.

Based on what I saw on off topic, I do want to create a 2nd Amendment thread similar to Art self study thread, covering from basic firearm knowledge to basic civic lessons and existing gun laws.

Will there anyone collect some FAQs about this issue? I do want it to be as comprehensive as I humanly could.

I'm a bit ignorant about it. Is it just a legal thing? Or how they are manufactured? Could you take it off or saw it off?
I'm not directing you to this just to brush off your question, this is a really good video that shows how an AR15 works. You might want to turn sound down, the music is kind of meh.

In short, no, it's a necessary component to a standard AR15

Stupid rifle won't cycle with cheap ammo, or mildly expensive ammo. No, it needs Hornady Black to fully cycle and hold the bolt open. Guess I need to fiddle with the gas system or the recoil spring or... something.

Finally some sunshine + weekend.. Which means, time to shoot some paper.

40296354564_d0526d4fb7_o.jpg

Ah, why does burned gunpower smell so good? ;)

Anyway, today I got to zero my new scope for the Tikka. Kahles K624i. Damn what a nice scope it is.
39196529350_c84e46fea9_o.jpg

Starting to get used to the Tikka. This was only the 2nd time I had it out shooting with it. My best grouping @ 100 meter with a bipod was 15.6 mm (3 shots), I think I should be able to improve it once I get more used to the rifle.

Finally I am at peace with what I have, the new Tikka with a scope I have always wanted and the CZ which is so much fun in 223.

Excuse the hipster photos, mobile phone photos look so boring without editing, and I felt inspired. ;)

So I finally finished the build I started back in Nov. It's been done for a while but I haven't had time to go to the range.

I wanted to buy a x3 magnifier for the red dot. Anyone have any recommendations on a decent one that won't break the bank? I'd spend a lot but I honestly go to the range about twice a year. Thanks.
