EMBARGO IS UP!

" According to Geekbench, there's now 512MB of RAM in the iPad, bringing it up to iPhone 4 standards. That still seems on the low side to us -- a device in this class should probably be sporting 1GB, though we had no memory issues. "

And rightfully so, most of them are d-bags.
The quieter speaker has me nervous. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Oh man the comments section is going to go mental.

If the iPod Touch gets better cams this year, the next iPad should get better cams.Anticitizen One said:sounds good but disappointed with the cameras. I'll still get an ipad 2 but how likely is it that ipad 3 will have significantly better cams?
NYR said:All right, I'm buying a smart cover.
The below apple videos confirm the cover can be folded to the back of the iPad when you hold it vertically like a book. My big concern was it didn't fild over correctly/smoothy and would become cumbersome.

Damn you. Those videos make the white iPad look really nice.NYR said:All right, I'm buying a smart cover.

Burger said:For one, you won't be taking photos with this thing, this camera is for video chatting, nothing more. Although you CAN record video with it, you won't want to.
For video chatting, the cameras are more than adequate. I've seen no usage scenario that requires a tablet to have super high quality cameras.
One final wrinkle to the 3G buying decision: Only 3G iPad models come with GPS capabilities. Theres a good reason for thisiOS devices use something called assisted GPS to dramatically decrease the amount of time it takes for the devices to determine their location. (Despite the name, this is not some sort of phony GPSthe assisted just means that the devices look for nearby cellular towers to get a general fix on their location, which prevents a minutes-long GPS scan that would be required on a GPS device without the cellular assist.) In any event, if you dream of using your iPad as a jumbo GPS navigation console, youll absolutely need a 3G model.
The fury is so predictable, but also pretty scary.neojubei said:Don't go to engadget. Its scary there.

BigNastyCurve said:Ok, someone explain this to me. I thought the original iPad had location-based services. Am I just dreaming that?
Yes, but it will only use your Wifi network to guess your location. I wonder how accurate it is if you tether a phone to the iPad.BigNastyCurve said:Ok, someone explain this to me. I thought the original iPad had location-based services. Am I just dreaming that?

You can't use the iPad as a phone.Anticitizen One said:Well yea but I really want to get to the point where I can carry around one device that can do everything adequately.
Yeah, that's what I should've said.Tobor said:The readers are fine. It's the commenters, Marty. Something has to be done about your commenters.

Let's be real. For real world everyday use, it's not practical to use as a phone. Third party apps and the form factor only go so far.Anticitizen One said:lol yes you can I used it as a phone when I went to costa rica last year.
Pretty much. They also blame Apple for their competitor's products being shitty and/or not successful.Burger said:Do they really think this is all a big conspiracy?
Anticitizen One said:Was there ever really any doubt it wouldnt have 512 mb of Ram??
According to Geekbench, the CPU is clocked at 800MHz.
Burger said:I'm reasonably sure that the iPad will receive near universal praise from most of the big review sites, just like the original iPad. Yet Engaget commenters still have no problem shouting "Bias!" or claiming Engadget was paid off.

Clock speed is dynamic according to usage. Geekbench has measured my 4 from 600 to 800MHz. Here's slashgear showing it at 900: http://www.slashgear.com/ipad-2-review-09139014/Zeth said:from engadget review:

For example, I was hoping I could make some cool photos of myself using photo booth and uploading them to facebook but now im not sure if ill bother if the pictures will come out relaly blurry.
