Arcade Racers on PC

great arcade racing games died with the sanfrancisco rush series. RIP

edit - i consider kart racers like mario kart a different sub genre

So do you only play on Nintendo hardware? Must suck to miss out on so many great
racing
games.

OP if your PC is really good I'd recommend Forza Horizon 3. If your PC is only medium tier don't waste your money, it won't run good.

i play primarily on pc with some playstation gaming for the exclusives. i have a high end pc and i would never support a POS port like fh3. you can either play at 30 fps or with constant stutter and frame pacing issues

motor storm apocalypse was also great. i forgot about that one. but yeah track design in todays arcade racers is just awful

Horizon 3 has actually come quite a long way, it's still far from perfect but I can maintain a pretty solid 60fps with minimal stuttering outside of Surfers bay on a 3570k and 1060. Not maxed of course but it still looks awesome. At launch my FPS was all over the place

console and high end pc....the expectations are completely different

the demo is horrendous and im not going to blindly buy it hoping the retail version is better. ive still yet to see a single video with smooth, stutter free motion above 30 fps

forza horizon 3 is a game that was very very much made for a 30 FPS cap (poor threading, wonky poly budgeting making the city eat FPS), but also is somewhere in between sim and arcade, esp. if you turn off most of the assists. I love the game for being a blend

As for games:
Outrun 2006 (the patron saint of arcade racing games, still unmatched in pure fun)
Revolt (leans a bit more sim but a load of fun for a game with a dash of kart racer)
DiRT (semi-sim but the closest thing you'll get to the legend rallisport challenge 2, too bad it got pulled off steam so you'll have to get 3 instead)
Stunts! (dos classic and the track editor make it the inspiration for the way over the top and also good trackmania series)

Forza Horizon 3 is pure arcade goodness. In no way shape or form is that game even close to being a sim. Even with the assists off and the damage on. The game is structured around slapping a supercharger, turbo, or v12 on everything.

Was on gog but the rightholders used a fan mod without permission resulting in the game being pulled. The game is on iOS/Android with ads up the wazoo

I played it on ps3 and liked it, it has some issues with collision that made it annoying but it's still enjoyable, I also enjoyed Vanquish which was 30fps with drops

I also enjoyed RE4, God Hand too

some games with fluctuating framerate just feel and play terribly, like bayonetta, skyrim on the ps3

Is 90s Arcade Racer pretty much vapourware at this point?

I didn't contribute to the kickstarter but the concept video looked really cool.

Last we saw of it was Nicalis demoing it under a different name at some low-profile trade show. The developer is completely silent, issuing refunds where people request them. I'll presume he's under NDA, possibly not even involved in the project any more.

I suspect Nicalis will eventually release it but attempt to worm out of the Kickstarter promises by pretending it's a different game.

Which ver. of Hot Wheels Velocity X is better? Gamecube or PC? Like is PC ver. tricky to setup on modern hardware?

Too bad you can play ChaseHQ 2 and others only unofficially. Arcade graphics are atrocious

Redout, best Wipeout game ever made IMO.

Better than Wipeout?

Not even close.

It's close. Wipeout HD still has more of a focus on hard precision in the driving, like down at the micro level
the nitty-gritty
. Redout is more about the long turns, gliding and drifting.

Think Wipeout + Star Wars Racer.

They're both amazing, and I'm partial to Wipeout too but it's damn nice having this. Still a lot of skill to it, just with a different style.

New update for Redout has it looking real good too.

I also highly recommend Blaze Rush, which is super fun and a really awesome isometric toy car racer with great graphics, simple controls yet great wreckless driving.

boost items and weapon items. bullzoder chasing you around the track.

Also trackmania is always good fun, and they've also just had an update with adds weird things like channels and schedules to easily play multiple titles across their range of trackmania and shootmania things.

Dirt 2 and Outrun 2006 are the best ones.

Forza Horizon doesn't feel like an arcade racer. I don't know why people call it one. It is just open world Forza. OP, play the demo before buying the game.
