Assassin's Creed II - The |OT|

This and L4D2 on the same day will make it the single best day of gaming ever for me. The first of both games are two of my all time favorite games.

Can't wait.

EDIT: It might be a good idea to add a disclaimer to the OP about ranting about the first game. Almost every AC-related thread turns into love/hate threads.

I have no rant about the first game. It kept my attention for probably all of half hour before I couldn't stay awake any longer to bother with it.

That being said, AC2 went on sale for $50 CAD and I got suckered into preordering it. I can only hope that ubi isn't taking me for another ride.

no discussion about our expectations of AC2 would be complete without mention of AC1! It's one of the most interesting things about this game, leading up to its release.

Assassin's Creed was one of my favorite games when it came out. I would love a trophy in this one to play the whole game without a hud.

For me it'll be the single best day ever because I'm getting two new Assassin's Creeds on the same day :D (yup, pre-ordered Bloodlines for PSP as well)

Here's the links to a 4 hour stream, plenty of spoilers, it goes from the intro all the way up to the first major assassination. They are all in order so I suggest jdownloader to download them all at once.

Damn you! I visited the archive again after saying I didn't want to watch them, and was somewhat relieved that they were gone. Now I'm going to spoil the beginning because I just can't wait!

Thanks for these links

I'm just shocked that there seems to be hardly any marketing for this game, when you could argue marketing was what made the first game.
Er,... they've done six recent developer diaries which went up at all major sites, previews at all sites/publications, a pretty hyped 15-minute short-film (the first of 3), and now TV commercials.

That seems like a hell of a lot of marketing to me :/

I loved the hell out of the first game right up until the credits started rolling halfway through of of Desmond's sentences. It very nearly soured the whole experience, though I didn't mind so much when I realised I could still saunter about the lab and read juicy secrets on all the computers. I was all about Desmond's story in Assassin's Creed; I didn't mind the repetitive Animus gameplay because the Altair bits were just an interesting minigame to me. It was nice to take a break from stealing keycards and harrassing Kristen Bell to do some casual slaughtering in Damascus.

The second game was a guaranteed Day One for me, so I've been on a blackout to avoid any possible spoilers. I'm glad to see they're beefing up the Animus parts of the game, but what I'm more interested in is
which power of Ezio's is going to bleed through to Desmond so he can make his glorious escape from Abstergo and Assassin's Creed 3 can be a 100% Desmond parkour romp through the half-destroyed looking future world that I glimpsed through the windows of the lab in the first game.

Certainly one of the most abrupt endings to a game I've played. And reading the comic that came with the preorder goodies had me thinking you'd get to play as
Desmond escaping at the end
. :(

That's pretty much the first thing you get to do in AC2. :)

That's nothing compared to the first game, which steamrolled from E3 all the way to release.

I think you're confusing marketing with hype, which the first one definitely did have more of. This time around there is certainly less hype -- a lot of people didn't like the first game and are cautious about the sequel -- but as for actual marketing efforts by Ubisoft AC2 is enjoying as much (if not more) than the first.

Any comparison article between the two versions? If the screen-tearing isn't removed, then I guess I'll just have to wait for the PC version.

Will need thorough feedback from the gaming community before I consider purchasing. I can see this game suffering a similar fate as the first or making a run at goty type accolades.

as stale as AC1 got, the excitement I had playing the first bit was unparalleled this gen. The start to the first kill is awesome.. im excited for AC2 but not as much as AC1.

yeah, true that. i'll just reiterate my reaction to the gamersyde preview by saying it sounds like it's got a nice mix of the first ASSASSIN'S CREED, PRINCE OF PERSIA, with some METROID sprinkled in, and leonardo da vinci playing the Q role to your italian james bond. nothin' wrong with that.

Wait someone said that this game is about 20-25 hours long, does that include any side quests?

The first was an 8-10 hour game, if this game is indeed longer than FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!

I see commercials for this on all the time. I only notice them in fast forward because they are easily the worst in video game history.

(Okay maybe not the worst ever but jeepers creepers they are bad.)

Any sites gotta 360/PS3 comparison? Don't want to get the PS3 version if performs bad...
After four hours with Ezio, one thing is sure, I could have kept playing all day long. Assassin's Creed 2 seems to make up for all its big brother's mistake two years ago, while keeping all the original game's strength. The preview code ran very well, with very little aliasing considering the size of the screen, which is a good omen for the retail version. And well, even if the small pop-up and framerate issues I saw made it to the final game, I would not be any less excited about it. Not a bad sign, is it?

There is a guy who has been posting in these threads that works on the game. He says that the versions are identical this time, aside from the 360 version being locked at 30FPS, and the PS3 not being locked.

So,
360: locked 30FPS, no tearing.
PS3: no locked framerate (so you could see anything from 15FPS to 60FPS), and tearing.

What I dont get is why they would make this decision in the first place. Why not lock both versions?

it's like that scene in GHOSTBUSTERS where they take the puppy away from the little girl in the controlled environment.

you lock the framerate of one, and not the other. why?

just to see what happens.

ok cool. tearing doesn't bother as much as some gaffer so i think ill be ok. Ima trophy whore :(

plus my main 360 RROD'd last week and Im playing on my backup which is also kinda fucked up. Don't trust the 360 at all right now.
