A man has been arrested with two guns at an entrance to a hotel at Disneyland Paris, French police said.
The 28-year-old is not known to security services and gave no resistance when he was detained, according to French media reports.
Police said the man was also found with a copy of the Koran. He was stopped during a security check.
France remains in a state of emergency following the deadly Islamist attacks in Paris in November last year.
Police said they were searching for a companion travelling with the man.
Disneyland Paris is among Europe's most popular tourist destinations.

Paris (AFP) - A 28-year-old man arrested in a Disneyland Paris hotel carrying two handguns, ammunition and a Koran is no longer suspected of terrorism offences, the public prosecutor's office said on Friday.

"The inquiry... and in particular checks made in different places and on the telephone have not established any link with a terrorist act," the office said in a statement.

The man, who was still being held for questioning on Friday, was arrested on Thursday at Disneyland Paris during routine scanning at one of the resort's hotels.

The arrest comes as France remains on high alert after November's attacks in Paris in which gunmen and suicide bombers targeted cafes, a concert venue and the Stade de France national stadium, leaving 130 dead and hundreds wounded.

During questioning the man said he had been carrying the guns -- two small calibre automatic pistols -- because he did not want to leave them at his mother's home where he was living, a police source told AFP.

Another police source, however, said the man initially told officers he had been armed because he feared for his own safety.

Investigators spoke overnight to his girlfriend, who had also been due to stay in the Art Deco-style New York Hotel. They are now satisfied that she is not incriminated in any wrongdoing, the prosecutor's office added.

Prosecutors will take a decision about any possible charges on Saturday afternoon when a 48-hour period during which the police can hold the man for questioning expires.

Disneyland Paris, situated about 30 kilometres (18 miles) east of the French capital, is one of Europe's most visited attractions.

neurosyphilis

Definitely not an STD, as I'm a pure.
No matter what kind of anti-gun laws you enact criminals will always find ways to get them. Glad no one was hurt.

A copy of the koran with him too.

At least those new security measures at Disney helped for this, heard the lines were super long to even get inside the park now.

The anti gun laws are for preventing average Joes to pull their guns when they find themselves slightly offended or uncomfortable.

And that works.

They caught him in a security check. Hoping there aren't more that were not caught. These attacks are well coordinated and it isn't usually just one guy.

Why do people always say that? Do you think everyone or even a decent amount of people who commit crimes with a gun are some sort of tv criminal determined to commit crimes at any cost? You must not lock the doors to your house or car because you should know no lock is going to stop someone determined to break into your home/car. I wonder if we are too late with any action, we are soon approaching the day where you can print out your own gun at a cheaper price

Sure, but the number of gun crimes will be orders of magnitude less.

But is it not true ?

Indeed. Let's stop outlawing murder too because fuck it, criminals will still find a way. Rape too, look how many women are still being raped. No shit criminals will break the law, but that doesn't make the law pointless in the first place.

Guys like him think that you declare yourself a "bad guy" and immediately get access to every illegal thing.

What have they changed? I went a week before the attacks in Paris in November and i had to laugh at the stupidity of their security. From train station to hotel you could either enter through downtown Disney style Disney village and pass through security (more on that in a min) or get straight on a bus to a hotel. There was no security this way or even checks you had a hotel booked. The train station is on a main line so anyone can go to it with he only reasons being Disney or if you somehow lived near by and was being picked up.

The only security is in the Disney village and the only way to he parks is through the Disney village. Here's where it gets stupid. There's a line for just people without bags, no one checks you here. In fact if the staff count is low and you have a bag you can sneak through here. Prams can also go through here without checks. If you have a bag of any size you go into a tent where either someone prods it for a few seconds in the dark tent and doesn't really check the bags contents or it goes through an airport style metal detector.

It was so dumb if you wanted to bring a knife or anything in you just put it on your body and no one would ever know. Or you could potentially sneak past these check points as they only used movable metal barriers to enclose them, no even chest height so easy to get over or go around. Just seemed the most pointless waste of time even bothering to do this. It almost seemed like it just caused hassle as it didn't provide any protection or deterrent in my eyes.

I'm glad this guy got caught, I have no idea how he got caught cos anyone with half a brain would have seen the huge flaws in these check points and worked around them with ease. I'm sure half the time it's just these people being complete idiots than any good system in place that catches these guys out.

So France just narrowly dodged another jihadist massacre, just because this guy happened to be an idiot.

Goddamnit. How many more are there in France willing and able to commit these acts? Dozens? Hundreds?

No matter what kind of anti-murder laws you enact criminals will still kill people.

bullshit

the guns in the US are made in the USA sold by US gun manufacturers.

Europe's problem is due of the EU's stupid ass borderless Shengen nonsense can see weapons smuggled from Russia through Eastern Europe towards the West

For those wondering, as stated in a french article (Lexpress.fr), the guy is "european".

Holding a Koran? Must be terrorist!

These stupid details skew the media's perspective, and doesn't add anything to the news other than a man was arrested for carrying guns. Sensationalism at best.

Well, that, and carrying around guns and ammunition at Disneyland in a city where random people rarely carry guns and where last November, 130 people died in a jihadist massacre. I think suspicion is warranted.

Well ... that and the guns, yeah.

Yeah, I clearly understand that. However, everyone has the right to be questioned until proven guilty. This type of sensationalism is the same as "Kids from Columbine were listening to Marilyn Manson" or "School shooter played a lot of Call of Duty" or "Local nut bought a can of gasoline".

Now add this to someone not guilty of crime. "Man speeding was listening to Marilyn Manson, and had a copy of Call of Duty. His trunk had cans of gasoline. African American."

"Upon questioning, he was simply going to a LAN and BBQ party. Phew, what a save!"

These things add nothing to the main news. It's bullshit, and skews the public's image before he gets a chance to prove his innocence. This is a news about a man carrying guns and ammunition near a crowded area. That's where the news should've ended. Everyone trying to figure out the skin of color and religion adds nothing but bullshit.

Except he is guilty of a crime isn't he?

And I hope he rots in jail for it if convicted. However:

This seems like a weirdly planned setup to get caught to spread some sort of non-violent terrorism. You're telling me that he knowingly walked through a security checkpoint with an x-ray machine with a pair of guns and a copy of the Quran?

Sounds like he expected to get caught but this way, he can spread fear without having to die for it.

Sorry guys but it's pretty standard to assume that someone is preparing an attack in Paris ATM when the person in question is carrying not one but two guns and a Quran but the most damning " evidence " is that his partner escaped when he got arrested. What did you want the police to assume ? That the guy was just packing two firearms and liked to read ?

Do you know who own guns in France ? The police, drug dealers and terrorists (hunters and the rest usually own rifles or shotguns, not guns).

The fact that he might be european is irrelevant. As high as 25% of the french citizens joining ISIS are converts, the majority of those converts are white.
