RMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Mayor William Bell has ordered the 52-foot Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument to be covered in Linn Park.

While Alabama law says the monument cannot be removed, Bell ordered it to be hidden from view while the city looks at legal options to remove it.

Officials are putting plastic over it now and then putting a plywood structure around it.

Councilman Johnathan Austin and mayoral candidate and activist Frank Matthews have both asked for the monument to be removed.
