R. Kelly has been charged with criminal sexual abuse in Cook County, court records show Friday.

The R&B star faces 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, with nine of the 10 charges specifying victims were between 13 and 16 years old.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Kelly's first court is scheduled for March 8.

The news comes just hours before attorney Michael Avenatti scheduled a 4 p.m. press conference in Chicago to discuss "details of the investigation."

"After 25 years of serial sexual abuse and assault of underage girls, the day of reckoning for R Kelly has arrived," Avenatti tweeted.

Avenatti, who previously reported he gave video evidence to Cook County prosecutors, said he planned to discuss a "major development in the case" and told The Associated Press he has evidence R. Kelly and his “enablers” paid witnesses and others to “rig” the outcome of the R&B star’s 2008 trial, when he was acquitted on child pornography charges.

This has been a long time coming and I’m glad that he can’t get away with this. Sexual assault is a big problem, especially with famous people using their status to take advantage of people.

Of course until the court case happens we don’t have a conclusion, but given the sheer number of accusations, there is no chance he avoids jail time.

So much funky weirdness around this guy.

I mean he’s basically a cult leader, essentially?

Not really. He’s just predator with a shitload of money who never got caught. The prosecutors fucked he their case against him so he figured he was invincible.

And there’s a certain level of staggeringly weaponized autism at work in his “trapped in the closet” music videos. They deserve watching if you’ve never seen them. Especially in light of what we now know about this man. He’s a sociopath who was hiding in plain sight. And we make goddamned jokes about it in the early 00’s like it was something funny. So goddamned fucked up looking back upon it all.

so it's not nice
Feeling like this is one of those "it's about time" moments. Surely many of us knew this was to come eventually... at least some sort of resolution to the claims.

I mean, everything you say is true. On top of that, it sounds like this setup he had with the women was almost his own little cult, which is all I meant.

He's a fucking psycho

Wait, what's so different now compared to all his other court appearnces? He's been charged and gone to court like 3 times already. This isnt news of what he does, the guy just has huge access to money and is paying off people left and right.

I watched a few weeks back the surviving r kelly doc on Netflix. Its great and its surprising what he got away with. But he has been charged countless times for underage sex, he always waltzed out of that courtroom free with a smile on his face. The girl he pissed on, her cousin wanted to save her but R Kelly bought off the whole family so even though there is video proof of him pissing on a 14 year old girl, her and her family are like "we dont know what you guys talking about". And they decided to never to speak to the cousin who was trying to save her from his grasp. Thats how far his reach goes.

If he can convince you as a father of that child that its all good, heres a couple of mil, the jury cant do shit to him because everyone is denying it happened.

P.S. watch the Netflix doc, its crazy.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Always thought the chorus in I Believe I Can Fly was an admission to how he felt after the fact.

That being said, innocent until proven guilty but R.Kelly definitely is one of those folks that have a very nasty and creepy vibe hanging around them.

You should probably watch “Trapped in the Closet” as well since he wrote, directed, and starred in the music video WHILE HE WAS ACTUALLY TRAPPING UNDERAGE GIRLS AND KEEPING THEM IN A CLOSET IN REAL LIFE.

This guy had millions of dollars so his pedaresty was weaponized, projected, and the goddamned lunatic was actually bragging about it.

This man was so batshit crazy yet coherent enough to create his own brand of deranged art at the same time. It’s actually fascinating to study. I hope the lobotomize this sick fuck in jail and study his brain so scientists can use what they learn to find a medical solution to pedaresty.

Yeah, i remember. There are many people who do these things but R.Kelly is/was one of the folks who was not making it very hard to follow the bread crumbs.

It's so strange reading facebook posts by my co-workers defending him and still supporting him by saying this is an anti-Black conspiracy against him. I hope he gets convicted.

It's horrifying stuff.

He needs the death penalty imo.

I also question all the miscarriages of the children he was with.

Perpetually Offended
I think it’s odd that people only take notice of something if a documentary is made about it.

Naw... We knew he was guilty... Some folks just don't care. Even women!

But ever since he married 15 yr old Aaliyah back in the day, we knew. Yep, we had that news even back then!

And if you live in Chicago, you'd have heard about his proclivities towards trawling middle and high schools for young girls. At least my friends in/from Chicago told me stories.

He paid like a measley several hundred dollars to shut her dad up, and her dad went right with it.

They should also find and arrest that fake lawyer he used to lie about her age.

Crazy all around.

History of allegations.

1)A 20-year-old woman is suing R Kelly, claiming he unlawfully gave her alcohol, assaulted her and gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
Faith Rodgers told BBC Three the star subjected to her humiliating sexual encounters during which he called her "nasty, degrading things" during a year-long relationship.

2) The star, then aged 27, marries 15-year-old singer Aaliyah at a secret ceremony in Chicago. Vibe magazine later discovered that Aaliyah had lied on the wedding certificate about her age, listing herself as 18. The marriage was annulled in February 1995.
For the rest of her career, Aaliyah dodged questions about the nature of her relationship. "When people ask me, I tell them, 'Hey, don't believe all that mess,'" she told one interviewer. "We're close and people took it the wrong way."

3) "Emotional distress"
Tiffany Hawkins sues R Kelly for the "personal injuries and emotional distress" she suffered during a three-year relationship with the star.
In court documents, she said she began having sex with Kelly in 1991, when she was 15 and he was 24, and the relationship ended three years later, when she turned 18. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Hawkins sought $10 million in damages, but accepted a fraction of that amount ($250,000) when the case was settled in 1998.

4) 2001: Sued by intern
Tracy Sampson sues R Kelly, accusing him of inducing her "into an indecent sexual relationship" when she was 17 years old.
The woman, a former intern at Epic Records, claimed she was "treated as his personal sex object and cast aside".
"He often tried to control every aspect of my life including who I would see and where I would go," she said in her legal case against him. The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum, said the New York Post.

5) April and May 2002: Two more court cases
Kelly is sued for a third time by Patrice Jones, a Chicago woman who claims he impregnated her when she was underage, and that she was forced to have an abortion.
A woman named Montina Woods also sued Kelly, alleging that he videotaped them having sex without her knowledge. The recording was allegedly circulated on an R Kelly "sex tape" sold by bootleggers under the title R Kelly Triple-X.

6) June 2002: Charged over child pornography
The star is charged with 21 counts of making child pornography, involving intercourse, oral sex, urination, and other sexual acts.
Chicago police accused him of videotaping each of these acts and enticing a minor to participate in them. All of the charges related to one girl, born in September 1984.
His arrest stemmed from a video which was sent anonymously to the Chicago Sun Times earlier in the year. They passed it on to police, who verified the authenticity of the tape with help from FBI forensics experts.
Kelly, who posted $750,000 bail, immediately denied the charges in an interview with MTV and later pleaded not guilty in court.
It took six years for the case to come to trial, during which time Kelly released his wildly successful Trapped In The Closet album; and was nominated for an Image Award by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), prompting widespread criticism.
The jury eventually concluded they could not prove that the girl on the tape was a minor, and Kelly was found not guilty on all counts.

7) 2002 - 2004: Arrest prompts further charges
Kelly is charged with a further 12 counts of making child pornography in Florida, where he was arrested at his holiday home.
These charges came after police seized a camera during the arrest, which allegedly showed the star having sex with an underage girl.
The charges were dropped when a judge agreed with Kelly's defence team that police lacked sufficient evidence to justify a search.

8) July 2017: Allegations of a "cult"
Last summer, Buzzfeed published a long and detailed report accusing R Kelly of trapping six women in a sex "cult".
The article alleged that Kelly seduced young women when they approached him for help with their music careers, before taking control of their lives - dictating "what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records".
All of the women cited in the article were of legal age; and one later denied the claims that she was being held against her will.

That's quite a list.
I'd note that in former USSR like countries grown ups claiming they were "seduced" and called this and that during sex would be laughed at.
Coercion would need to be physical/under threat of violence to count.
Underage sex allegations would be taken seriously.

Latest update, he’s pleading not guilty.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47363322

R Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were minors at the time.
His lawyer entered the plea for the R&B star, who appeared in the Chicago court dressed in an orange jumpsuit.
The 52-year-old turned himself in to authorities on Friday after an arrest warrant was issued.
He has faced decades of sexual abuse claims without being convicted, and has denied all previous allegations.
His court appearance and plea comes weeks after the documentary series Surviving R Kelly aired. It contained allegations of abuse from many women including the star's former wife.
He is being tried for sexual assaults alleged to have happened since 1998. He met one of the four women at a restaurant on her 16th birthday, and another - who was also 16 - when she asked for his autograph.
The court ordered the singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, to surrender his passport and to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
He has reportedly struggled to pay the $100,000 bail payment required to leave Cook County Jail.
R Kelly is next scheduled to appear in court on 22 March.

He really seems to think he can get away with this. He’s so far up shit creek and he is in denial. I hope they televise the case and broadcast it over here, I want to see the meltdown when he realises he is done for.

I find it unbelievable that he squandered all of that money. Dude had like a dozen albums and a relatively long consistent career.

Now I'm reading about evictions?

Damn dude.

Kelly bailed out of jail, female friend helped him out

https://www.usatoday.com/story/life...ot-guilty-criminal-sex-abuse-case/2978510002/

The embattled R&B singer, 52, stopped by a Golden Arches downtown after posting bail following multiple charges of criminal sexual abuse, to which he plead not guilty.

Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told USA TODAY that Kelly posted $100,000, or 10 percent of the $1 million bond set Saturday, after spending three days behind bars.

Court documents show his bail was paid by a 47-year-old woman from the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, Illinois, according to the Chicago Tribune. She listed herself as a "friend" of Kelly.

Wonder if he got those fake cheese fake bacon fries

At least this one looks like a legitimate case of MeToo. I wonder how people of the world can convince him to come forward? He much think he's so far gone that there's nothing left to lose by continuing down this path.

It looks like he's totally gonna get away with this. If the previous charges didn't stick, neither will these.

Apparently he escalated further past where this clip ended

Some of that in this clip

Edit

Clip taken down, he stood up and started shouting at seemingly no one in particular
