still blows my mind that so many hugely famous people like Lady Gaga continued to work with him even after that tape came out. this world is full of sellouts.

So much funky weirdness around this guy.

I mean he’s basically a cult leader, essentially?

It's so strange reading facebook posts by my co-workers defending him and still supporting him by saying this is an anti-Black conspiracy against him. I hope he gets convicted.

Basically. The only ones who would still defend pieces of shit like this are brain-dead idiots like the individuals who are defending pigs like Donald Trump & Roy Moore (sorry for bringing politics into it).

I will defend anyone's right to the presumption of innocence until they've had their day in court. I would say that if anyone's a piece of shit, it's those willing to throw away the presumption of innocence because they simply don't like a person.

He believed he could fly, but then he got shot down by the FBI...

He'd think about teenage girls every night and day, but as a jail bird he can't just spread his wings and fly away...

If you're a parent, would you trust a guy like this around your underaged daughter? I certainly hope not!

Of course I wouldn't, nor would I trust any other adult male around my adolescent daughter. But that's an entirely separate issue to defending someone's legal right to the presumption of innocence. Defending the right of R Kelly, Donald Trump or Roy Moore to the presumption of innocence in a court of law and suggesting they shouldn't be on trial in the court of public opinion (not a real court) doesn't make me or anyone else doing so a "brain-dead idiot".

Didn't he pee on a bitch like 20 years ago?

i mean its no surprise but its always funny how some people loved to defend him and the type of people were generally white college bros with spikey hair and pink button ups who take group pics and they are all holding bud lights and the other who wears 3xl white tall tees and flat brimmed hats

The jury couldn't conclude that it was him in the video IIRC, someone might need to fact check me on that. Also, don't go looking for it, it's online, but the girl's underage.

Not related. But the latest news is that he is back in jail now over failing to pay $161,000 in child support.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-47478799
Embattled US R&B singer R Kelly has been taken into custody for failing to pay child support.
A judge in Chicago said he would be held until he paid $161,000 (£122,000) owed to his ex-wife and their children.
It comes hours after R Kelly tearfully and angrily denied allegations of sexual abuse in a TV interview.
Last month, he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, involving four alleged victims, three of whom were minors.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was released on bail after spending three nights in jail.

If convicted, he faces three to seven years in prison on each charge.

What is the child support case?

R Kelly, 52, was detained after a court hearing in Chicago on Wednesday.
The singer's defence attorney said he was having financial difficulties - his finances were a "mess".
R Kelly has been a target of a boycott campaign, and his recording contract has been cancelled.
He was prepared to pay up to $60,000 of what he owed to his former wife, Andrea Kelly, and their three children, but the judge required the full amount.
The singer's next court hearing is scheduled for 13 March.

What about the emotional TV interview?

R Kelly was speaking to CBS This Morning - his first interview since his arrest last month in the sexual abuse case.

"I didn't do this stuff. This is not me," he said, adding that he is "fighting for my life".

The star also denied accusations, raised in the recent documentary Surviving R Kelly, that he held women against their will, confiscating their phones, restricting their food, and denying them access to their families.

Becoming emotional, he asked CBS news reporter Gayle King: "How stupid would it be for R Kelly, with all I've been through to hold somebody? How stupid would I be to do that?"

"Use your common sense," he continued, raising his voice and turning to address the camera.

"Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to; love me if you want. But just use your common sense."
"How stupid would it be for me with my crazy past and what I've been through [to say], 'Oh right now, I just think I need to be a monster and hold girls against their will and chain them up in my basement?"

"Quit playing, quit playing," he said, becoming tearful. "This is not me."

At this point, Kelly stood up, pounding his fist and beating his chest as he declared: "Are you all trying to kill me?"

Why is "not paying money" a jail worthy crime?
I mean, if you do it to a bank (for whatever reasons), you can be fined for it, your property might be arrested/sold etc.

This is not a small amount of money we’re talking about here and child support money is often decided by the court in the first place so this is no surprise it’s treated as a crime to not pay it.

They knew it was him on the tape. The girl that he pee'd on said it wasn't her. Her parents said it wasn't her also. But her Aunt, friends, teachers, basketball coach, Principle, and police officers in the neighborhood that knew her all said it was her on the VHS tape.

The jury took the word of the little girl and not almost everybody else. One person on the jury said girls like her want the sex and didn't believe it is considered rape at all or something to that effect. He said that on camera!

This is such a stupid argument. I wouldn't trust my kid with a random stranger, doesn't mean I would a automatically assume they are guilty if child rape.

To be fair MJ wasn't a random stranger to these families. Mike was a family friend that they got to know pretty well.

A child's livelihood depends on that support. One parent should not be forced to work 2 jobs because the marriage didn't work.

To me it is a message that says honor your immediate responsibility.
Otherwise what repercussions would there be?

Fine someone who already doesn't pay their bills?
Try evading taxes. It's far worse.

My man, parts of the black community defended this dude for decades. Back in my day, no one said shit about this.

It was a big 'out if sight out of mind' thing.

In some communities, folks only care about what's in their bubble, and the outside barely exists.

The same as in case one has bank's debt?

I'm actually not having "an ass hole that simply doesn't want to pay" in mind, but rather "he actually can't pay that much due to financial difficulties". In this very case, he suggested paying 60k, but judge insisted on 160k.

I see what you are getting at, but...

Like poor old Multibillionaire bank is in financial trouble.

Tell that to the mom who has 3 kids, and still can't feed them on welfare, and daddy is on the block kickin it with his boys.

Children are more important and there should be a stronger penalty for disregarding them. Neglect can lead to cyclical problems further down the line and it is important imo to factor that into a penalty.

How does him sitting in prison help the kids?
Is the idea that a person fearing prison earns more?

And many in the white community didn't care, even after the news went national. All races made it an "out of sight out of mind" thing.

Yes, but it back fires all the time. Because once the parent goes to jail, it makes it harder for him to get a job afterward. Meaning less money going into child support.

Can’t believe this, he’s been bailed out again. It seems an anonymous person paid off the child support.

R. Kelly has been released from jail in Chicago after the $161,000 (£122,000) he owed in child support was paid.

The Cook County sheriff's office said the money was paid on Saturday morning and he was set free shortly afterwards.

It is unclear who made the singer's payment.

The embattled US R&B artist was last month charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, involving four alleged victims, three of whom were minors.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was released on bail after spending three nights in jail. If convicted, he faces three to seven years in prison on each charge.
He was taken back into custody on Wednesday after failing to pay child support.

As he walked out of jail on Saturday, CNN reported him as saying: "We're going to straighten all this stuff out."

The singer had been prepared to pay up to $60,000 of what he owed to his former wife, Andrea Kelly, and their three children, but the judge had required the full amount and ordered him detained.

The singer's defence attorney had previously said the singer was having financial difficulties and his finances were a "mess".
R. Kelly has been a target of a boycott campaign, and his recording contract has been cancelled.

The latest stint in jail came shortly after an explosive interview with CBS This Morning, his first since his arrest in February on the aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges.

"I didn't do this stuff. This is not me," he said, adding that he is "fighting for my life".

It pisses me off so much that people are still supporting this guy, if he gets away with this I will lose what little faith I have in the American legal system.

Ridiculous. I mean I already lost faith but this would be a new low.

And those people are not getting paid back. Idiots ... paying for R. Kellys child support.

I half-expect the payer to be Chris Brown. Birds of a feather and all that.

What the fuck is this supposed to mean?

What the he’ll Chris brown had to do with anything related to shit R jelly is being accused of?

Man some of y’all have some nerve and we wonder why the justice system is fucked up as it is because everyone thinks they can put 2 and 2 together !

I don’t like this no more than the next person but everyone involved in his down fall should be jail as they ALL knew about his behavior!

Seems odd to me that he is broke and all these people he was allegedly paying off to keep quiet thought he was lying about being broke and putted him like this!

He shoulda been locked up years ago!!!

But to bring Chris brown in to this with that comment makes no sense and not even close! On top of that Chris went to jail and properly apologized for what he done!

R. Kelly 'sexual abuse' tape given to US authorities
A US man has claimed to have found a video tape allegedly showing R. Kelly "sexually abusing underage African-American girls."
Gary Dennis told reporters that he handed the tape to authorities after discovering it at his house.
Mr Dennis, a nursing home worker, said he came across the footage whilst sorting through a box of old video tapes.
He played one tape with a recording of a football match after finding it had been labelled "R. Kelly". He expected it to have been recorded over with an old concert.
Instead it contained sexual abuse, he alleges.
Whilst not going into detail, Mr Dennis said he saw "[R. Kelly] telling them what to do and what to say, and it appeared that he was in control of the camera."
The tape was then turned over to the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Ms Allred said Mr Dennis had no personal connection to the R&B singer and had "no idea" how or when he came to possess the videotape, adding that friends had given him tapes of sporting events in the past.
She said the tape appears to show a separate incident from those previously attributed to R. Kelly, but conceded that she could not be "100% certain" the man on the tape was him.
"The doubt here is self-evident," said Steve Greenberg, R. Kelly's lawyer.
"It is not him. The larger question is what the authorities are doing about the Dennis' possession of what they believe is child pornography in their tape collection."
"It is obviously now just open season on R. Kelly," Mr Greenberg continued.
"It is irresponsible to continue to take the speculation of every Tom, Dick and Harry, and report it as if it is fact."

Both shitty people who somehow remained relevant in the music scene when they should have been personas non grata years ago.

For reference: Brown has repeatedly been involved in violence, even as recently as 2018, and former girlfriend Karrueche Tran has an ongoing 5-year restraining order against him after he threatened to kill her. An apology doesn't matter if you keep doing the same things afterward. So, like I said, he and R Kelly are birds of a feather.

You are being ridiculous. They have ZERO to do with each other. And why would Chris Brown bail out R. Kelly? So this is what we are doing now? One R&B singer goes to jail and now it's open season on all R&B singers?

It's not serious -- I'm just suggesting that it'd only be 'fitting' if the guy who covered the bills for a scumbag musician like R Kelly was another scumbag musician, particularly one who got a free pass for abhorrent behavior by being famous.

No!

Chris brown is nothing near what R KELLY is and being accused of at all not even in the same ball park. You come off as a Chris brown hater and seem to not believe in second chances or benefit of the doubt!

Have you ever experienced anything Chris brown has or know anyone that’s been thru what he’s been through?

If yes, then you’re out of line and if NO you have grounds to speak at all on the subject as a lot of male celebs have gotten restraining orders against them from angry women or bitter/jealous type. Last incident the woman lied on him!!!

Neogaf is the last place I would expect to see a Chris brown fanboy(or girl. I don't know)

No one is serious about throwing Chris in jail (again). It was a harmless joke about how much celebrities are allowed to get away with. Calm down.

I'm sorry, is Chris Brown some kind of personal hero to you? He's had multiple "second chances." Let me list the things he's done in rough chronological order:

- Beat Rihanna during a domestic dispute (this you know).
- Became violent during a break in an interview where he was asked about the Rihanna incident.
- Got into a fight with Drake and his entourage.
- Got into an altercation with Frank Ocean where Brown punched and threatened to shoot Ocean.
- Had his probation extended after a reported hit-and-run accident.
- Arrested for felony assault after he refused to pose for a picture with two men.
- Entered rehab, but was kicked out months later for violating the rehab center's rules.
- Refused to let police into his home after a woman said he threatened her with a gun, triggering a standoff.
- Threatened to kill his one-time girlfriend Karrueche Tran, leading to a 5-year restraining order.
- Arrested for felony battery after a Florida show.

You notice the pattern? He might not be as sinister as R Kelly, but he's a man who routinely turns to violence and seems to have a particular problem with threatening women. "Sorry" from him doesn't seem to mean anything.
