Happy Canada Day folks! You may notice a slight change in the title since last time. It's to recognize that this thread is not just about gaming deals and will often include discussion on topics that many of us find important (internet, wireless, movies, oh god there's an election again).

However, the main topic of discussion will be deals for video games. We somehow hit close to 20,000 topics and over 4 years in that last thread which I definitely didn't think would happen. Here's to another 4 years of saving money so you can spend it more often.

TIVs.ca - neksus' site crowdsources trade-in values at our many stores that accept trade-ins
RedFlagDeals - The largest Canadian deals website.
CheapAssGamer - The Canadian sub-forum of the largest video game deals forum.
GameDealsCanada Twitter Feed - No_Style puts pretty much everything in this thread into a Twitter feed for you to follow
GameDealsCanada Facebook Page - If you'd rather follow on Facebook, you can Like No_Stye's page
GamesForCanada - See "purchasing us only items" below

The (Un)Official Canada-GAF Approved method is GamesForCanada. goomba478 of CheapAssGamer runs this website which will help you get just about anything - not just games - from the US to Canada. You use the form on his site to tell him what you want, and he orders it for you then ships it to Canada for a small fee. We have all had great experiences with GFC. He also has a forum.

EB Games
Unlike our southern neighbours, EB Games and GameStop in Canada can be one of the best places to buy games for cheap if you take advantage of their promotions.

  • Trade 3 for Free
Trade in 3 games worth $8 or more and get a selected upcoming title completely paid off. Sometimes this is for all upcoming titles.

    Gaming Guarantee
Pre-order a selected title and get the full price of the game back in credit if you trade it in within 7 days.

    Power Trade
Get 50% more credit (yes even for $40 Most Wanted titles) if you trade in towards a pre-order of a selected game.

    Real Canadian Superstore
Yes. This supermarket sells games in most if not all locations.
    No Tax Weekend
Some weeks there will be no sales tax applied to products. Perfect time to pick up a console.

    Shoppers Drug Mart
Another store you wouldn't think sells games but does. The deals to be had are using their Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Program. You can earn and redeem Optimum points for almost everything, which includes games, systems, and accessories, but not pre-paid cards. Normally you only earn 10 points per dollar spent (not including taxes). There are redemption levels that run from 8000 points for $10 to 95000 points for $170 of merchandise (you still have to pay the taxes).

    20x Events
You need to make a purchase of $50 before tax, but you earn 200 points per dollar.

18500 (or 15000) Bonus Point Events
You need to make a purchase of $75 before tax, but you earn your regular 10 points per dollar plus the bonus points.

    Bonus Redemption Events
Generally these events are 50000 points for $100 or 95000 points for $200 of merchandise.

    Super Redemption Events
These have redemptions such as 40000 points for $90, 50000 for $125, 80000 for $200, or 95000 for $250 of merchandise.

Thank you to soultron for the top banner and iphys for the Shoppers Drug Mart section.

Confession time: I've never seen a tax-free weekend at my local Superstore. Atlantic Superstore can kindly bite me.

Also, happy Canada Day all! Here's to another 20k!

Also, to avoid spamming up the thread, remember that you can subscribe using the "thread tools" up in the top right corner of this page (just beneath the page numbers.)

Nice to see a new thread up (although I hope it avoids getting too derailed by the more off-topic elements, now that it's envisioned as more of a catch-all)

Big-time credit to those who have taken the time to regularly share information and keep the rest of us in the loop (Firestorm and Lone Prodigy both come to mind... and I'm sure there are plenty more).

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum program should be in the list of common deals, because it's surprisingly lucrative. 20x events are a great way to buy games and systems, and 18500 bonus point events are a great way to buy games. BTW, Shoppers is doing a 18500 bonus point event July 2nd-6th.

Also, I think the Best Buy pre-order deals are worth including.

The original thread was always one of my favourite places to lurk for years before I was approved as a member. Finally, I can participate! Great job on the OP and happy Canada Day!

I wanted to add it but don't have a good handle on it. If someone could write up something I'll add it to the OP.

My favourite place on GAF. Thanks for all the work everyone does. I wonder how much money I've saved and how much smaller my backlog would be if it wasn't for the old thread and the GameDealsCanada Twitter feed. Thanks guys and happy Canada Day :D
